New Whispers of the Rack

Modern 8-Rack Discard Mono-Black

Nordlys

Sideboard

My newest version of Whispers of the Rack. Wrench Mind was never a good card so I'm trying to revive Hymn to Tourach at all costs.

The goal is to be able to cast it on turn-2 or turn-3. So we need Delirium right away and it CAN be done.

The sorcery spot is easier one, count it as granted. Mishra's Bauble is a good card that can fill the artifact spot. It's also good at hurrying the hellbent state so we don't suffer from Smallpox and Lily's discard. Grief is the newest addition that can fill the creature spot in the graveyard. It's also free and does what we do: Thoughtseize. Polluted Delta and Ghost Quarter or whichever fetchland you can use, can fill the land spot for turn-2.

And there's Delirium on turn-2. Not impossible, but it's not big deal to cast Whispers on turn-3, which is much easier.

Funeral Charm or Fatal Push will fill the instant spot if needed. It wouldn't be that wierd to kill a mana-dork on turn-1. Smallpox will do plenty of magic for us to have Delirium on turn-3, since it will enable us to fill the land spot and an additional spot according to what we've got in our hands. So with one card we are easily filling three spots: sorcery, land and one more (maybe a Planeswalker, maybe an Enchantment or an Artifact).

Asylum Visitor can also fill the creature spot in the graveyard. It's a good singleton card to re-fuel and she can be brought back to life with Inscription of Ruin. Speaking of which, Inscription of Ruin is a versatile card that offers both things we need: discard and removal. Being able to potentially use it's third option with the Asylum vampire feels awesome. A singleton is OK, and two copies is very reasonable too. More than those would be too much. Collective Brutality is another versatile card which will beheave according to what we are against. Versus control is very good, versus burn is very good too, and versus aggro is decent. But it shines the most when we can Escalate it to cast Asylum Visitor with madness, in this case I've selected 1 copy of each, but they can go up to 2 copies max.

Urza's Saga is one of the most newest and powerful additions to 8rack and it goes well with playing some copies of Mishra's Bauble for the +1/+1 buff to the tokens. It also fits double spot in the graveyard for delirium, as enchantment or land.

What are your thoughts? Worth it or not?
