Land (1)

Overview

The Abzan Nic fit is one of my favorites to play due to the fact that it can be more consistent than the other builds. This is due to the presence of the four main board Siege Rhino as well as Congregation at Dawn being the boards tutor of choice.

The Tech

Siege Rhino- The main presence of the deck.

Thrun, the Last Troll, Thragtusk , Eternal Witness, Scavenging Ooze-Standard Nic fit cards.

Grave Titan , Wurmcoil Engine -good finishers and personal favorites.

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite-Absolute board presence; clears out small aggro completely or greatly diminishes the presences of an opponents board state.

Congregation at Dawn- This tutor spell is very powerful with Siege Rhino; being able to place three rhinos on top of a deck and then play them one after another is a very powerful and quick way to close out a game. the card can also tutor up lock out cards from the side board or the decks more powerful finishers.

Game strategy and Mulligan tips

Game one is generally well balanced against all decks. A keep-able opening hand will contain 2-3 lands, 1-2 ramp spells (preferably a Search for Tomorrow), a discard spell, 1-2 removal spells, or a threat. Hands without a ramp spell should have three plus lands anything less is a dangerous keep. The deck mulligans well as there are very few bad cards in the early game so mulligans (especially on the draw) are not as detrimental.

Furthermore any hand with a Congregation at Dawn and appropriate mana to cast it are very good keeps. An important note to take is Do not cast Congregation at Dawn if you only have three lands unless you are running a copy of Dryad Arbor you will be stuck on three lands for three turns and unable to cast anything you searched.

Sideboard

Most of the side board options are pretty standard so instead of going over them im going to explain the boarding for some of the tougher matches.

The most difficult match ups for this deck are combo decks namely Scapeshift, Karn Liberated tron, and Ad Nauseam combo. when saying difficult It is to say that these match ups are slightly more challenging but not impossible to win.

the most important cards against these decks are thoughtsieze and Inquisition of Kozilek use these to take away combo enablers (ramp search etc). For the three decks mentioned prior there are specific cards to aim for.

Tron

for tron aim for Sylvan Scrying and Expedition Map (if on the play aim for scrying over map as it can be abrupt decayed or Disenchant on turn two). They key to winning this match-up is to keep an opponet from assembling tron and ramping out a threat as fast as possible. Using Tectonic Edge or Ghost Quarter to destroy an urza land then surgical extract it is the best way to ensure this. if tron is heavy in the meta use Ghost Quarter over edge and consider boarding Fulminator Mage

Scapeshift

For Scapeshift aim for the namesake itself if unavailable take ramp cards such as Search for Tomorrow, Farseek, Explore, Sakura-Tribe Elder or Khalni Heart Expedition (take any of the aforementioned over expedition as it can be easily destroyed before it triggers). Other general tips are to try and gain as much life as possible while mitigating any damage you do to yourself (searching for basics with fetches or lettering shocks come in tapped) the "safe zone tends to be in areas upwards of 30 life so resolving Thragtusk or Wurmcoil Engine can end a game quickly

Ad Nauseum

Ad Nauseam is a hard deck to beat due to the fact it has very little to interact with and it is difficult to interact with it after Ad Nauseam resolves. When using discard spells target (in order of importance) Lotus Bloom,Lightning Storm, Angel's Grace, and Ad Nauseam. If for some reason Lotus Bloom comes into play and is not immediately used always try and force its use through destruction as they may not have the combo ready the mana will go to waste or be used on something they didn't wish to use it on.
