I see your Rings of Brighthearth and attempt to convince you that Illusionist's Bracers is a raise.

(Looked through what history of this deck I was able to find, couldn't find a mention of em.)

If you know what they are already, I'd like the reasoning for why they're not featured, if you're not quite as familiar, a bit more in depth comparison follows.

Similar goals are achieved, but comparing the two, the rings has a few things up on the Bracers, one's response time; If someone responds to your crashing the field with a rings, you can slap them right back, pay the two, and still get at least one good activation's use out of it. The same cannot be said for the bracers, given the slow nature of Equipping.

Another? Variety, if we're just using it to copy Chainer's ability(or any other creature, really) then this doesn't change much, but Rings doesn't care whether the ability's source is a creature or not. You can pay 5 to transmute twice, if you're in a pinch, pay 2 to get a second Maze of Ith effect to toss around. No question that Rings are impressive, but, again, if most of what we're doing is Chainer, saving that two mana apiece makes 10 mana go from 4, to 6 creatures pulled from the grave, and one more mana to sparkle as we please.

For the slower reaction speed when we're getting shut down, we pay less.

Pretty worth it in my eyes.

Rings works with Deserted Temple and Cabal Coffers, on top of any benefits it has with Chainer or other activated abilities, since it works with noncreature abilities too.

Shamen3mill I see you reasons for Bracers. I just wanted at little more out of that card slot. Rings hits so many things. Braves could possibly be a dead card at times. Now that's not saying that I should attempt to run it sometimes because I am going to try it out now! Redundancy is a good thing! I appreciate your in-depth comment though!

Revel in Riches seems like a better Black Market...what are your thoughts after playtesting with it?

November 28, 2017 12:46 a.m.

Cyfearix says... #9

Enral it is fantastic. Yes it's just but I'm using it as a backup win con with the added bonus of mana that's usable whenever I want.

what about Gilded Lotus it seems to me that you might lack some ramp, and gilded lotus gives you those precious

mlequesne my only reservation against Lotus is the cost. I really want to get it there and am thinking of switching it with Mana Vault Its the speed of everything that's holding me back. I will be testing it this weekend now though because of your comment! Thank you friend

I've mentioned it earlier but I think it's worth noting, with your current archetype in mind, that there isn't enough of a support package to fully utilize Mana Vault. I think you're safe on replacing it with Gilded Lotus or any 2 CMC Monoblack rock: Coldsteel Heart, Charcoal Diamond, Jet Medallion.

The untap during upkeep clause, paying 4, deals damage to you if you don't. I don't like all of these factors about this card.

Honestly in retrospect, cut it for Basalt Monolith, which will open up an avenue for infinite mana w/ Rings of Brighthearth into Exsanguinate or Torment of Hailfire.

Savaaage Should we cut Mana Vault for Grim Monolith or Gilded Lotus? I'm liking over because there isn't much to utilize it for. Moved Lotus in for now, going to test both, what can it hurt.

I'm actually toying with the idea of Dowsing Dagger /Lost Vale in my Chainer deck. I haven't added it yet but it's attractive for now. I'm not positive if it will replace any ramp pieces though.

Grim Monolith doesn't combo with Rings of Brighthearth unlike Basalt Monolith, which I chose over GMon even though it's preferred. The Monolith line is a bit more narrow compared to Glotus, as you mentioned with the colorless vs colored mana, but it can lead into scenarios where you win on the spot via infinite. It's just way too exploitative. Both are great and I think the decision will probably be based to your local metagame.

Nice deck. Seeing this I think I'm going to include Junk Diver/Myr Retriever instead of Fortuitous Find/Trading Post in my Djmentia Unchained deck to get those all-too-important artifacts back out of my graveyard.

Have you considered Altar of the Brood? Seems like it could fit well with the Gravecrawler+Phyrexian Altar combo you've got.

Cyfearix says... #18

BurtReynolds Glad I gave you some inspiration! I have ran Altar of the Brood before and I never got it to be game changing. I do think about giving it another shot a lot though. I really want it to have a slot. I've always like a mill option over damage too.

BurtReynolds Ya convinced me....I swapped out Innocent Blood for Altar of the Brood gets my CMC the same and does more for the deck in the current build. Thank you friend!

Ah cool. Your deck has got me interested in this whole mill aspect for Chainer, Dementia Master and I think I'll soon be adding these cards into my deck as well.

December 7, 2017 5:16 a.m.

Awesome deck. I definitely want to build it. Do you think Torment of Hailfire could be a fit?

December 18, 2017 9:35 a.m.

IvyLeaguerCU can't believe I missed that on my maybe board. I do throw it in every once in awhile. Glad you like!

Big +1 from me. Love how you made mono black into control, stax, and non attack. Great job. With all the the discarding you force on opponents have ever thought about Megrim or Waste Not? Im sure this deck doesnt need them, just didnt see them in your omitted section.

December 23, 2017 9:50 a.m.

Cyfearix says... #24

KayneMarco Thank you for the praise friend! I will add those cards to the maybe board for sure. I really should run Waste Not, I just don't like it for some reason. Glad you liked the deck. It is a blast to play for sure!
