Why not Phalanx Leader? Seems better than Battlewise Hoplite/ Favored Hoplite. I'd also consider Vanguard of Brimaz.

anamiac I'm considering Phalanx Leader . The problem is that Battlewise Hoplite helps with card selection, which is important, and Favored Hoplite is removal resistant. Vanguard of Brimaz just isn't what this deck wants. I had an earlier 3-color version including red which included Vanguard of Brimaz and Akroan Crusader . The problem was the tokens don't benefit from the targeting of the spells and I'm better off with creatures that get big fast on their own rather than trying to swarm my opponent.

Even Launch the Fleet in this deck is only playable because it targets so many things at once. I get more benefit from that most times than from the tokens.

forbiddenvoid very nice playlist, it looks very similar to mine. I like the interaction of Triton Fortune Hunter with all of your targeting instants, as well as Artisan of Forms . I have seen her overlooked in a majority of these Battlefield Thaumaturge decks. I initially had Triton Fortune Hunter in my deck, but he ended up not making the cut with what I was trying to do - I simply have no room for a 3CMC creature in my deck.

I found Omenspeaker too critical for getting Battlefield Thaumaturge in my hand if I didn't already have him. Omenspeaker serves as a kind of dual purpose Lagonna-Band Trailblazer and Battlewise Hoplite , giving me a decent 1/3 blocker with an unconditional immediate scry. I do have to say that this playlist looks like it has some serious potential, I will have to give it a playtest vs mine in a little bit when I have more time.

One thing I would recommend changing is +1 Launch the Fleet , as it is too pivotal a component to your deck.

+1 from me, take a look at my deck and let me know what you think!

Fitzig23: Good thoughts. I will test Omenspeaker for sure. I may cut the fortune hunter for 2 Fabled Hero and 2 Bident of Thassa . I think it will generate more card advantage and punchier damage. A hero ciphered with Hidden Strings seems broken, too.

Meetreality88 I personally disagree just because I get to scry 2 right when Omenspeaker comes out.

But you can scry at the end of their turn and then scry before your card draw if you wanted to. That's 2 scry's just before your card draw

Sigiled Starfish is just too much durdle for this deck. It's part of the same reason I'm hesitant to include Omenspeaker . The scry is good, but I want cards that immediately impact the board and continue to be useful late.

Meetreality88 I use all of my creatures for attacking with Launch the Fleet , so it would be pointless for any of them to have a tap ability.

You know you wanna play Trait Doctoring ;)

bade_waxter: I won't say I haven't considered it. Stormbreath Dragon is a real threat against this deck, given the large number of white cards.

I don't think it's worth taking anything else out though.

Just played some games with the available cards and some subs on MTGO.

Favored Hoplite into Hidden Strings just pisses people off.

The fact that I can do that and follow it up with casting any other 2 CMC card is just sick, too. That means I can get both Hidden Strings + Battlefield Thaumaturge in just two turns, and my Hoplite is a 3/4 at the end of that turn. Then on turn 3, the real fun begins.

Sideboard it against boros then? good response to Chained to the Rocks as well.

Seems too situational, though, to commit the SB to that card. The meta where I play is heavy on control and light on burn/Boros, so I don't think it would be a good use of resources for me.

For Reference, Cyclonic Rift doesn't fill the role you think it does, you want Disperse for the function you mention in the description. I like the deck though!

carpage: I removed that line from the description. I wasn't thinking clearly when I wrote it, obviously. I did some testing with Disperse and found I really wasn't bouncing my creatures as I often as I had thought I would be. I'm keeping Cyclonic Rift in because it's one of the best defense against Hexproof decks, which this deck has some trouble with already. 7 mana is a lot, but the games against those decks seem to get drawn out, and being able to rift a hexproof team back to hand is useful for getting that last bit of damage through.

Good call! I swapped it in for Daxos, who was seriously underperforming, even in the matchups I was targeting him for.

Heck yeah dude, I have 2 in my sideboard as well. It's a great card, because you can swing in unblockable and give all your dudes hexproof until end of turn with it too. Great card.

Curse of the Swine would be beyond fantastic here. 2 mana to turn all their beasties into pigs?!? Yes please. That combo would hose mbd and r/g monsters

forbiddenvoid Hate to tell ya, but this deck got rinsed by my deck. Went 4-0 and never got any creatures to make combos happen because everything that kept getting played would be set aflame immediately. You can check it my deck if you'd like. Burn Baby Burn

forbiddenvoid says... #22

mtgbass - Not surprised. Your deck isn't remotely legal in the format mine plays in. I'm not concerned with how my deck plays against Legacy Burn. I'm concerned with how it will play against Standard Burn, and I should be able to have creatures big enough to get through Lightning Strike and Warleader's Helix without much of a problem.

May 2, 2014 6:29 p.m.

forbiddenvoid says... #23

mathimus55 - I do, in fact, have 2x Curse of the Swine in the sideboard, specifically for those matchups. While it's good against Mono-black devotion, it isn't altogether necessary, I've found, but it absolutely is for R/G monsters. I've seen fewer mono-blue decks recently, too, but Curse of the Swine eats those alive. It's nice when Master of Waves becomes Master of Pigs.

forbiddenvoid says... #24

mtgbass - Sorry, your deck is Modern, not Legacy, but the same thought still applies.

Fitzig23 says... #25

forbiddenvoid you will get hosed by a standard Boros Burn deck, as will all Battlefield Thaumaturge decks unless they have set up a solid sideboard to deal with it. Boros Burn doesn't care about burning your creatures, they care about burning your face.
