Nin - Revenge of the Tap

Commander / EDH*

SilverhawkPX45

So I thought long and hard about what my new deck should be, and I was sure that I wanted to do another UR deck to try out all these new juicy cards I didn't have the opportunity to use yet, and the more I thought about it and the more possible commanders I considered, the more I realized I wanted a return of the Vedalken Queen.

So without further ado - NIN IS BACK, BITCHES!

To be clear, I want to follow a few simple rules this time around:

  • Wizard theme is still the way I want to go, so I aim for a pseudo Tribal-EDH.

  • I don't want to repeat key cards. If it's already seeing lots of play in Talrand or other decks that share a color, I don't want to use it here

  • I want to stay away from the cards that are deemed unfun or problematic by the general populus. To my knowledge, that includes Consecrated Sphinx, Deadeye Navigator and Omniscience specifically, plus several cards that are already covered by the rule above this one

It's time to say goodbye to the Queen of Wizards. I've played variants of this deck since the first time Nin saw print, and I feel I evolved the deck from a prison archetype that was a pain to play against to a deck that interacts with players moderately, but mostly does it's own thing. I dislike how it tunnel visions on it's own board, but I like how it is a legitimate approach to alternative win conditions. Making Laboratory Maniac a possible way to end a match without going infinite is something that makes the deck charming in my eyes, but I feel in reality it often degenerates to feeling like a generic control deck when played against it. I'm retiring the deck mainly because I feel like I've seen all facets my approach to this kind of control has to offer and I'm doing the tap/untap theme in one of my next projects (Derevi) and reusing the colors in another new deck (Jeleva), so I'll need some of the more expensive playables. I also feel like many players have taken on new commanders and I'm kinda behind on bringing new cards to the table, so I'll try to continue to do some more unconventional stuff in the future.
