Your sideboard is not supposed to just have more cards you would have had in your main deck. Pillar of flame and searing spear both beat annihilating fire.

@Jayce74: My sideboard is primarily for specific match-ups. The reason I'm going with Annihilating Fire main board is because of the additional damage and the fact that it's an instant. Counterflux v other blue decks, Ash Zealot v Snapcaster Mage , Izzet Staticaster v. tokens and Pillar of Flame if I need additional exile against zombie match-ups.

Searing spear is an instant for 1R that does 3 :)

Divination over Inspiration , you don't need drawing cards to be an instant, do you?

@ jabbadachance,

"In short, this is a budget Guttersnipe deck which (theoretically) should work just as well."

"budget"

Why Inspiration and not Divination ? Are you planning on making other players draw? Also, those Goblin Electromancer aren't helping all that many of your spells, as you only have a few sorcery/instant's with colorless mana casting costs. You mana curve is also super low, which I like alot, but without more of a drawing mechanic I feel like you're gonna bust your load pretty quick and be left cardless. Just my two cents. Happy brewing!

That's a good point, On Goblin Electromancer could potentially let you play more powerful, expensive spells you wouldn't normally be able to. For instance, Explosive Impact would become 3R instead of 5R.

It also makes card:Chandra's Fury very viable at 2R instead of 4R.

Zerix says... #11

Whoops, nevermind why have I been reducing these by two? card:Chandra's Fury becomes 3R and Explosive Impact becomes 4R.

I also feel compelled to let you know that most people building r/u with Guttersnipe are using Curiosity . Enchanting the guttersnipes with this can net 2 damage to the player and a drawn card for every sorcery/instant played. FYI

dafnier says... #13

@Panda: But it doesn't exile the permanent.

@Raxin: Oh God I didn't even think of running Curiosity . Inspiration was in hopes of either I had a Goblin Electromancer to reduce the cost or if I needed a quick two draw and/or damage on my opponents turn.

@Zerix & Raxin: I could take them out or I could run larger spells to accommodate but I'm not sure what to take out in that case.

Raxin says... #14

I vote for taking them out and taking out Inspiration , in favor of a couple of Curiosity and four Guttersnipe . Then maybe add some some more direct damage/burn. Then you can just burn the opponent/creatures on their turn and draw with the guttersnipe/curiosity combo.

I have my own version of this deck, titled Spontaneous Combustion Syndrome that focuses on buffing the crap out of Nivix Cyclops or Fluxcharger with cards like Artful Dodge and the new ARMED//DANGEROUS cards. Seems to work pretty well.

If you're interested, take a gander.

Otherwise... i know what you're trying to do in this deck, but you seem to be torn between using a lot of creatures or trying to capitalize on Delver of Secrets  Flip . You cannot do both.

Nivmagus Elemental ... WHY IS THAT NOT IN HERE?!?!?!?!? Seriously, it's crazy good. Enemy just counterspelled your burn spell? No problem. Exile it and get +2/+2 instead! It has crazy good synergy with Nivix Cyclops and Guttersnipe as well. Cast a spell, exile it for permanent +2/+2 on Nivmagus Elemental , 2 damage from Guttersnipe and +3/0 to Nivix Cyclops all from potentially a single 1 drop spell! You can check out my Izzet deck which does this, Nivix-magus Sniper.

I'd remove Artful Dodge and replace them with Index , and remove Delver of Secrets  Flip and replace them with Ash Zealot or Vexing Devil .

Other than that, I love your deck. +1.

I think you might be a little creature heavy if you're going to play Delver of Secrets  Flip , as it becomes pretty useless in decks that are not heavier in spells.

Another fantastic spell I highly recommend is Curiosity , as it goes amazing on Guttersnipe or in my deck Hellrider .

Check out my Curious Goblins deck and see if any of the Izzet synergy in it helps you out. +1!

nivmagus would be really good for this. Deff a SB creature. He will come in handy.

Saljen says... #21

Why Invisible Stalker ? He kind of goes against your whole strategy. You aren't running any cipher or enchants, which is where he excels. I guess you can attach Runechanter's Pike to him, but it would be just as if not more effective on any of your other creatures since it gives first strike and you can kill creatures opening up your opponent...

Feels like a wasted creature spot. I'd put in any other izzet spell creature.Nivmagus Elemental or Fluxcharger , Incursion Specialist would all be better than Invisible Stalker , or just more spells.

dafnier says... #22

@ Saljen: Invisible Stalker can't be targets by popular removal at the moment outside of an overloaded Mizzium Mortars . If all else fails where my main hitters are targeted by kills spells and targets removal I'll still have stalkers to at least poke with using pike.

Too expensive, I need good enough reasoning to raise the mana curve above 3 and take out certain cards.
