I built this Brawl deck initially as a budget deck but adding in
Lyra Dawnbringer
and
History of Benalia
jacked up its price. I would love to hear your opinions on it, as any improvement is welcome.
With a plethora of Auras available in standard that come with the phrase Can't attack or block or in the special case of
Desert's Hold
, Activated abilities cannot be activated, the main goal of the deck is to basically disable majority if not all of the creatures that enemies put down. While this is going down, we will be keeping our commander
Danitha Capashen, Paragon
on the board to reduce the costs of all the auras and equipment we have in our deck, assuring a complete lock down on our enemy's creatures, but making sure that our Danitha is the buffest one you have ever seen.
Dub
,
Conviction
,
On Serra's Wings
, and
Cartouche of Solidarity
may feel weak alone, but with all of them plastered on one creature, it can get pretty annoying.
We have answers available for annoying cards like
Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh
and other Planeswalkers in the form of
Ixalan's Binding
and
Cast Out
. These two are also answers for artifact superstars like
Aetherflux Reservoir
and
The Immortal Sun
, but this time we can include
Invoke the Divine
and
Forsake the Worldly
in that list.
Included in the deck are also some hard hitting equipment like
Blackblade Reforged
,
Dowsing Dagger
(bonus mana always welcome) and
Helm of the Host
. Although not entirely threatening on its own, the Helm multiplies our finisher creatures (more on that later), and multiplying Danitha just gives us even more reduction than what we already have.
Cobbled Wings
was added in to give us a chance to fight off flyers, since in earlier playtests just one card giving flying in the form of
On Serra's Wings
was never really enough.
Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle
was added into the deck for some fun combos with
Restoration Specialist
and
Tragic Poet
, since casting a historic spell while Teshar is on the board brings them right back out, and will allow us to retrieve any auras we've lost while the game is going on. Teshar is also able to pick back up
Sram, Senior Edificer
or Danitha if we choose to keep her in the graveyard.
Should the deck be faced by various go wide decks, multiple board wipes are available in the form of
Hour of Revelation
,
Fumigate
,
Urza's Ruinous Blast
(which allows us to keep our Danitha on the board should horrible things happen),
Settle the Wreckage
(for trigger happy enemies) and
Dusk
. The addition of Dusk was also welcome as it allowed us to keep our weaker cards like Sram and
Kwende, Pride of Femeref
on the board, while giving us the chance to return Teshar (if ever they die) and other 2< power cards.
Overwhelming Splendor
was a very interesting card to add to the deck since I personally had not heard of it before, but it played well with it being an Aura, which gave me some flavor tingles iykwim. It also blocks off a lot of enemies who have used up all of their enchantment hate on things keeping their creatures from attacking when this one was the real threat. It's good to see a developed Dinosaur board just suddenly become nonthreatening 1/1s, with their abilities invalidated as well.
Finishers are present in
Lyra Dawnbringer
and
Crested Sunmare
. Lyra is overall just an incredibly strong card and equipping our enhancing auras and other equipment on her is a welcome plan. Since we will almost always be keeping Danitha on the board, attacking or blocking will assure us gaining life, thereby enabling Sunmare's ability to produce horses. Equipping either one with Helm of the Host grants us either Lyras just giving each other bufffs, or horses make each other indestructible.
Upgrade possibility is
History of Benalia
, replacing either the Tragic Poet or one of our disabling auras.
