Hey man love the idea but i think you can do better without Sign in Blood i think there are better cards you can use, like Phyrexian Arena . You have tons of removal (maybe too much) when i was play testing it on tapped out sometimes i struggled to draw a win condition maybe try Bloodghast could help you more with some early pressure and keep your tempo high ( it also give you a reason to use Liliana of the Veil ) But i do get what you mean with her +1 sometimes hurting you more.

My problem with the Arena is I will always choose a Messenger or a kicked Gatekeeper over it on T3.

Board control is exactly what I need. The stalls I have with early board clear essentially is necessary to survival for this deck.

@ abolisher

Strictly speaking, Phyrexian Arena is worse than Sign in Blood . Because Modern is generally a fast format, that extra mana is actually a huge hinderance. Especially since you don't get the benefit of Sign in Blood from Phyrexian Arena until turn 5. (T3 play PA, T4 1 life 1 card, T5 1 life 1 card). Sign in Blood can give you 4 cards for 4 life by T3 potentially.

Furthermore, while Phyrexian Arena is a great long game plan, this deck isn't looking for the long game. And if a game is draging on that long chance are it's against a Control deck which means this deck is already in trouble.

Yeah I don't want to stall the game out at all.

That being said, there have been times where I don't have creatures available so I just am killing their stuff with Abrupt Decay Doom Blade and Geth's Verdict

I don't think this deck is quick enough to be honest, Especially without Lilly in a combo rich meta. It has no 1 drop, no 2 drop. (almost every creature in the format is a 2 drop or a combo piece)

I've used both Arena & Blood for quite a while and in a variety of decks, considering the the devotion factor. I think Phyrexian Arena is a better choice for this deck than Sign in Blood . You'll want continuous draw power. Nothing worse than spending a Sign in Blood late game and hitting 2 lands except hitting 2 more Sign in Blood . With DRS u used to be able to T2 an Arena but not anymore :( U can do a mix of Arena & Blood but if this was my deck I would do 2 Arenas & 2 Inquisition of Kozilek (possible more since no Lilly)

In standard Golgari Charm is a sick card. In modern, u usually have better options available. My question is what is the intended purpose of 4x Golgari Charm

If it's the regeneration post Wrath then maybe some Treetop Village and a single copy of Thrun, the Last Troll would give u more mileage.

If it's for the enchantment hate then u already have Abrupt Decay and Maelstrom Pulse is the preferred "big" removal of the format. I know it's not instant speed but it hits practically everything. 2 of would sit nicely in this deck.

If it's for the all creatures get -1/-1 that's pretty good but Echoing Decay Bile Blight Engineered Explosives Infest /Drown in Sorrow could work.

In a deck with 16 bodies, I would deff MB some Wraths. Damnation if it's in budget. Mutilate or the above Infest cards if it's not.

U may want to consider some Chalice of the Void or Oblivion Stone for your SB in case u come across something out there that your deck absolutely can't deal with.

The charm is there for destroying Bitterblossom killing the Faeries and protection against board wipes. I know some say they can't be regenerated but still. It's all I have right now so I am just gonna playtest with it and see what happens. Nothing is worse than blocking a Phyrexian Obliterator and finding out it's regenerated with Golgari Charm

I like Quest for the Gravelord I have so much kill stuff it would trigger t3 possibly.

APPLE01DOJ says... #8

True that about Obliterator & Regeneration.

If u want to run Quest for the Gravelord (not recommended) u should consider Bloodghast Vengevine Gravecrawler and Smallpox instead.

Charm should be good VS affinity if u catch them early.

Based on GP Richmond Affinity & Pod r the top decks to beat. Rock did top 16 too!

Yeah I was watching it the whole weekend, I am going to for each modern gp they have.

I know kiki pod won against affinity, which surprised me. haha

APPLE01DOJ What do you think about Disciple of the Vault in here

mikepayne05 says... #11

If someone actually blocks your Obliterator and manages to kill it, you've won. No one blocks Obliterator.

March 11, 2014 10:04 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #12

That's not true. I've had a lot of people block Obliterator just to get rid of it. I've blocked Obliterartor's before for the same purpose.

Truthfully Arena is Phyrexian Obliterator 's best friend. xD

Domri Rade works if u want to pay for your entire mana base in blood. lol

Note, I don't actually advise running arena.

Hey I'm back! Haha You might not even remember me considering how much attention this deck has gotten, but this is looking awesome (and much different from when I first saw it!). I love the sacrifice mechanics going on here (which is the main weakness of all those pesky modern infect decks), as well as the splash of green for the Golgari Charm and Abrupt Decay . Glad the Obliterators and Gatekeepers are working out, and I'm excited to hear how the Grand Prix in Minneapolis goes! Is it an open 5k?

March 11, 2014 10:37 p.m.

4 Mainboard Golgari Charm seems like way too much. Honestly more than 1 feels like too much. If you removed 3 of them you could open up 3 slots for something like Maelstrom Pulse or more threats like Bloodghast .

Magiclover318 says... #15

I like the charms, it's seriously one of the most underrated cards haha.

juliandusett thanks yeah I remember you!! I'm not sure about the open 5th. Idk what that means haha

March 12, 2014 8:51 a.m.

juliandusett says... #16

Haha an open 5th is a musical term. But anyways, I was saying "open 5k", like an "open to the public $5000 tournament". There are a bunch of them held by TCGPlayer in major cities across the country. It wouldn't be a bad way to get recognized as a decent player if you place in the top 32 or so (out of 500 players mind you, it's not easy). It's much tougher than FNM, but hey it's worth a shot, and this deck looks pretty solid.

Hmmm... actually now that I think about it, I'm not sure if the tournaments follow standard or modern format though...

One thing I would suggest is going down to 2 copies of Gary and adding 2 Nantuko Shade who is one of my absolute favorite 2 drops. Acts as a great mana sink if you ever need one. Gary is too expensive to want to draw opening hand. I have a simian deck and the shade is such a great card, esp if you combo with a kicked gatekeeper

March 13, 2014 1 a.m.

Magiclover318 says... #19

Yeah I meant 5k, stupid auto correct haha yeah I haven't heard about them...

I want to have 4 copies of gary, I have tried with 3 and I never drew him.

The shade is good but idk :/

Maybe run a single Forest if you need to fix with Path to Exile or if you're fighting Blood Moon . Otherwise great deck, Gray Merchant of Asphodel + Phyrexian Obliterator is a terrific combo. +1 from me!

March 14, 2014 12:25 a.m.

Magiclover318 says... #21

I decided to go with two forests, I'm playtesting this tomorrow(saturday) and Sunday so we will see how it works

March 14, 2014 9:06 p.m.

Have you considered Creakwood Liege ? It adds 3 devotion which is nice, pumps the team, and creates a 3/3 worm every upkeep, which is very nice. Also, what happened to Geth's Verdict ? I'm not liking how few cheap removal spells you have now.

March 16, 2014 6:36 p.m.

Magiclover318 says... #23

That's not a bad card. I don't think my deck flows that direction though.

I was playtesting this out and I had way too much creature removal, which sucks if I am playing a control deck. Which I did today. I am putting in 4x Nantuko Shade in it's place, and moved the Verdicts to the SB

March 16, 2014 6:43 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #24

Toshiro Umezawa is a thing. Not sure if he's your play style or not but could be useful for getting more bang out of your buck as far as removal goes.

March 16, 2014 8 p.m.

Magiclover318 says... #25

I like him, but I only have 4 instants :/ I'm reluctant to add more also, I think I'm gonna pass on him... I know Nantuko Shade was recommended in the past and I decided to add him in
