@DrFuzzyGloves Whether your FNM is casual or competitive depends on your store. My FNM has an average of 16 people. 10 of them, myself included are competitive magic players. We all have high tier decks and everyone is quite skilled. Saying FNM is casual is not always the case. Also people at tournaments have not always done well at FNM. I have played some really crappy decks at opens and thought "Why did you play that at a big tourney?" FNM's vary, and some can be casual yes, but some are also quite competitive. Saying "your deck isn't competitive just cuz it won a FNM" is quite false.

why is this tagged Red Deck Wins and Suicide Black? It is neither of those things lol but regardless not bad I find it amusing! :)
February 7, 2015 8:04 p.m.
It's tagged as RDW because it functions on the same premise as RDW. It isn't mono-, but it is still technically a red deck that wins. Suicide black is a mistake. I'll remove it now.
DrFuzzyGloves: I'll pull the competitive tag. I just interpreted 'competitive' as a deck ready to play at a tournament. Including FNMs. Sorry if I offended you by using the 'Competitive Tag'.

haha, i wasnt offended at all actually. i was brousing competitive decks, saw this and it intrigued me so i went to it. the deck is good, just not tag fitting is all.
@drewmighty, the venue i play at has 10-25 people any night. it varies a lot, but the core group, myself included that go pretty much every friday, all compete in larger events. so the competition is harsher at ours. sounds like yours is similar. there is another venue in the town just a few miles away, and every now and then one of us will head over there and pretty much clean out. its pretty salty of us, but it happens. the 2nd venue is just no serious. we use the main venue though to work out strategies. if your deck isnt close to competitive, your lucky to take a round. only the better decks win. i've only managed 2 decks i felt were "competetive" tag worthy. the event i took it to i did extremely well too. (11th out of 78), and those decks were almost the same deck, jsut a few changes to each. i placed top 4 in my venue every time i used it as well. but its not longer competitive since FRF. so i'm back to developing strategies. my new deck just took 3-0 tonight, but i wouldnt call it competitive yet. still kinks to hammer out. like you said, it will vary, venue to venue.

Thanks for all the upvotes everybody! Right now, we're #6 on the site! (Screw the 'top rank' thingy on the deck, just go check the top tab on the home page!)

I tend to only use Dragon Mantle for its draw ability. That and heroic/prowess triggers

summersdg: I agree that the draw is relevant, but I didn't feel like it contributed as much as Hammerhand would have.
mardox12: Thanks XD (That's a lot of eights...)

I agree with you... Competitive tag re-added!
Also, this deck is one upvote away from beating my personal best of 64! So close! Let's get those last two upvotes!

I'm not sure what I love more. Your deck, what you have beaten with it, or your post on three digit budgets aren't exactly budget for some players. I tried doing a similar thing in Theros with a Minotaur tribal and every card is at most a dollar so a few rares but still fine. Plus one from me!!!

+1 From me. I had a R/W heroic deck built that I'm trying to merge with this one but it's not working so well. Great deck!

Turn 1: Land, Monastery Swiftspear, 1 Damage. Life=19
Turn 2: Land, 2 Monastery Swiftspear, 3 Damage. Life =16
Turn 3: Land, Temur Battle Rage + Titan's Strength , Prowess triggers so each have base of 3/4, One Monastery Swiftspear is 6/5 due to Titan's Strength with double strike and trample due to Temur Battle Rage ferocious. 18 Damage. Life= -2
Even if your opponent gains life from life lands, they would be at 0 unless they went first. Then, they would be at 1. Wild Slash and Lightning Strike can take care of that quite quickly.

I play tested this deck a lot yesterday and think it runs smoother with 20 lands. Like any aggro deck though you have the chance of drawing into a land pocket and really suffering for it. Beat Jeskai tokens pretty easily with trample and got punished by mono green ramp. This is a fun build. Thanks for sharing

Thank's for playtesting! What do you suggest I take out for two more lands?
February 9, 2015 10:02 a.m.
I think there is a bit too much black mana and not enough red mana. Consider swapping 2 Swamps for 2 Mountains. Other than that, this deck looks great, +1.

After a lot of playtesting, I've found this ratio to be the most consistent... But thanks for the suggestions! Also, thanks for the upvote :)

i wasnt saying change it actually, all i said is drop the competitive tag. if it won a FNM, it got perfect draws all night, which is unlikely to happen regularly without doing the changes. winning FNM doesnt make it competitive. FNM is casual, anything more than FNM begins to be be competitive, the tag is exactly what it says.
A deck with the exact same card list as yours, but with the changes to lands, would beat your deck 4 of 5 times, and ill completely aggree that those changes would allow this deck to do extemely well at regional qualifiers ect. but FNM can hardly be considered a "competition". at least i've never been to one that comes close. FNM is a place where players get to test builds against other players testing builds. go to an actual event, and you'll instantly notice a drastic change. those players have hammered out the kinks in their decks and will stomp any deck that doesnt perform at a competitive level.
this deck just isnt there in its current state. sorry to have offended you. i just dont want this site to mislead people. i personally love budget decks. its fun to do well by spending 1/10 of what another player did. there is satisfaction in that. but if you dont beleive me, take this deck to an actual magic tournament, where it goes from a typical FNM croud of 10-25 players to over 60 on average and you'll see exactly what i mean. all 60 of those players have probably won their FNM's the last 4 times they went.
dont change the deck, i was just saying pull the competitive tag, its a misleading tag. lol. you also dont have to do anything i say, but it isnt competitive, and players looking on the site for ideas on actual competitive decks will be in aggreement. didnt mean to ruffle any feathers. good job on the budget. i actually like the deck.
