If you wanted to, you could put together a sideboard which radically shifted the strategy of this deck after the first round. 4x Doorkeeper , 4x Increasing Confusion (a place to dump all that mana), Jace (just because), etc. Your opponent will be like, "What happened to that door?"... :)

I imagine you already know this, but in case it wasn't clear, Farseek and card:Ranger's Path can fetch the "shock lands" like Overgrown Tomb and Temple Garden . You don't need as much basic land as you are presently running... (of course, those lands are rares)

Cyclonic Rift might be worth sideboarding if you find your opponent is able to get past your defenders, since you have so little creature hate and do have enough mana to Overload it.
p.s. i could use some feedback on Big Life... Thank you in advance. :)

Your idea to sideboard a mill deck is amazing. As I'm building this mainly for the WTF?! factor, changing the strategy half way though a match would be hilarious.
The mana base is a bit of a mess because those are the lands I own at the moment: ideally I'd run mostly shock lands, but I'll add them as I get hold of them.
Cyclonic Rift is already in my deck, I've just forgotten to update it on TappedOut.
Thanks for the tips.

Thank you.
The main strategy of the deck can be summarised in 3 letters: WTF.
And if the WTF is big enough, you win (especially on game 2).

Add maybe 2 Alchemist's Refuge. Plan is cast your door to nothingness on your opponent's turn so in your turn you will be able to untap and use it. Paying two and tapping the refuge won't be that painful if you have axebane out.

Thanks.
FridayWing that's a great idea. I was planning a massive overhaul of the land base anyway: I'll definitively add a pair of card:Alchemist's Refuge.
As I've removed all black and red cards from the deck, I was thinking of removing all mountains and swamps and just rely on purely on Axebane Guardian and Chromatic Lantern for the black and red mana. Any thoughts?

You have a lot of white mana that I feel you can safely drop with 2 cards needing white mana and 8 fetch cards and 4 creating creatures.

I LOVE this deck's name! +1! Also have you ever thought of Galvanic Alchemist + Axebane Guardian infinite combo? Works well with the Door to Nothingness .
November 3, 2012 3:18 a.m.
I had given it some thought, however there are two issues with it.
1- It requires 4 defenders on the battlefield, meaning that 14 defenders won't be enough.
2- Without Axebane Guardian , Galvanic Alchemist is a dead card as there is no other creature to soulbond it with.

I'd justify running white in the deck with Angelic Wall maybe in place of Fog Bank if your meta deals with the threat too easily too often... another alternative win-con might be card:Ludevic's Test Subject in the sb.
You might need more draw in the deck...

I was thinking of dropping a Farseek and a card:Ranger's Path for a couple more card:Sphinx's Revelation. What do you think?

Im not sure... you'll need the ramp to get enough mana to cast the revelation for something that isn't negligible, plus card:Sphinx's Revelation seems more designed for a deck that already has consistent card advantage like control. Maybe drop one rangers path for a 3rd revelation...

I really like this deck. The sideboard milling deck is a genius idea, I never even thought of that.

Thanks. I was going for the shock effect. As the name suggests, the deck wins when no-one expects it, and siding in a mill deck makes it work quite well.

Any budget ideas for draw? I'd prefer not to spend $100 on 3x card:Sphinx's Revelation.

Very cool deck.
You should include some Dispel against artifact hate.
May 17, 2013 11:30 a.m.
@Fallowstone Urban Evolution is great in this deck for extra draw.In addition Unexpected Results ends up with some fun results and is a great mana thinner.
May 17, 2013 11:38 a.m.
@singular_g_man: There is so little artifact hate which gets main-decked in Standard, that there's little point in adding defences against it.
@gufymike: I tried adding a couple of Unexpected Results but they never worked out better than the two cards I removed.
Thanks for the +1s.

I also think Urban Evolution would be a great addition. And maybe a 3rd or 4th Supreme Verdict as well.

In my deck it was more about getting to omniscience mana rather than getting the right color, by the time you are able to cast omniscience or activate door you should see every 4of in your deck since your ramping out lands from your deck making every card more likely to pop up
For your deck, I'd run a full playset of rangers path, farseek, and either abundant growth or elvish visionary. The former will put lands on the field quickly, the latter will draw cards and either fix mana or provide blockers. By the time your able to cast and activate door to nothingness your deck should easily pull one lantern turning all your forests into rainbowlands.
