It is only good in like a token build. Sign in Blood is much better, it can also kill your opponents.

Dark Confidant > all of the above, if you have money.

Well seeing as he runs a playset of Blood Artist and 3 Kalastria Highborn, couple those with one or both of his Grave Pact, and the drain would be a lot more than just 1 or 2, Yggdrasil60...

First to all thanks all for the suggestions.

I spent the day play testing the deck with those suggestions and this is what i came up with for main board. and why.

YamishiTheWickedOne you were right. Grave Pact slowed me down to much, i replaced it with 2 Extirpate helping me remove some repeat offenders that effected me.

I have found room for 3 Gatekeeper of Malakir by removing one Blood Artist and 2 Pawn of Ulamog what would you suggest removing to make sme more of my vamps 4 of? i feel that getting another 1 or 2 Viscera Seer and a 4th Gatekeeper of Malakir could be nice but i may also be trying to hard to keep that secondary win condition through combo.

Dark Confidant don't i wish i had the money. otherwise yes i would be all over that card :D

mtgplayer100 i did find room for a 4th Vampire Nocturnus i removed a Shadow Alley Denizen

Anji3739 j-person Altar's Reap is a fun card, but i found running it instead of Sign in Blood hindered me because if i needed those extra 2 cards it was usually to complete the combo therefor i did not get the extra benefits from the sac; or it was to get a Vampire Nocturnus to boost my attacks and at that point i was one creature less than it could be by using Sign in Blood. the theme of Altar's Reap and Tragic Slip is fun but ended not being as practical as Sign in Blood or Dismember both harm my life but when the synergy of the deck gives me life gain i do not worry about that very much. the last thing that effected me using sac instant and sorceries for an effect that i could otherwise use is what if i get board wiped, then i cannot regain advantage if the only thing i draw is altars reap.

Femme_Fatale do you suggest going back to 4 Sign in Blood or do you feel Dark Deal is worth running.

Yggdrasil60 sadly i mostly play "goldfish" games. but i would like to get away from some of that mentality and maybe go to a couple of modern matches. what do you suggest to make Nocturne's Dark Deal viable.

You could add Waste Not to make Dark Deal viable. You are running decent amount of discard. But he's not a vampire...

Oh, never mind. I forgot Waste Not wasn't even a creature. Of course he's not a vampire!hit my head in frustration

@Yosaj Sign in Blood is typically better, Dark Deal costs more and can potentially help your opponent. I would probably run a 3-1 split for testing, and then if Dark Deal works well/poorly then change the ratio.

drop dark deal, extirpate, bloodthrone and nighthawk. max out highborn and viscera. add 4 tragic slip. extirpate is a side card, and faces serious competition from surgical. drop sign in blood, add a 4th gatekeeper and possibly a vampire lacerator, you need more turn 1 plays.

finally, disregard agadeem, acquire nykthos. unless you feel like splashing red (which is arguably better than monoblack anyway)

as a side note, there are technically non-creature vampires in the form of tribal changeling spells.

yamishi, i like R/B better too. R gives you access to Falkenrath Aristocrat and Stromkirk Captain which do a ton to make the deck decent. i also like Terminate for removal. you want to keep all the spells black if possible (sideboard aside) for nocturnus. ditto on the Tragic Slips; if you're sacrificing bloodghast etc to viscera seer, those pretty much will kill anything.

i wouldn't go with four highborns, though. in my deck, i've found Blood Artist to be WAY more effective. i can't always manage to spare a black every time i sac something.

Oh, fun fact: did you know Vampire Nocturnus has a name? The flavor text on various black cards states his name is Vradeen.

think about Shadow Alley Denizen as an effective 1 drop, I do a lot of damage with her as long as the opponent doesn't have black out

Bloodline Keeper // Lord of Lineage could be used to pump out more tokens to do more sacrifices with, plus the Lord of Lineage boost to Vampires gets ridiculous. Pawn of Ulamog is another route you could go down for tokens.
