Norin, Agent of Chaos

This deck is all about abusing ETB triggers while consistently disrupting opponents play. Typically Norin will be out Turn 1, if you have a good hand maybe an engine, if a great hand you get both. Then it's a matter of dumping your hand and wheeling to keep tempo. You pump out a lot of creature tokens, mess with your friends a bit, then warp reality around them. It's intended for multiplayer/pod play so I'm not currently running things like Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast . (sidenote: I will likely add a list of cards to possibly include for the case of 1v1 games.) Why Norin the Wary over, say, Purphoros, God of the Forge ? It mostly comes down to how pesky Norin can be to remove and costing 3 less mana, but also how he interacts with cards like Confusion in the Ranks .

Now that you have a very general idea of how the deck acts, let's get into the details. I'll be using the custom categories to help break things down and explain them individually.

Sacred Ground: The path toward enlightenment. Show

Fairly simple lands that help me do things, I can produce creatures, get a creature or artifact back, and the artifact lands interact with other cards in the deck. Currently the way it plays it seems like 35 land is the sweet spot, never a flood or drought. Cavern of Souls is usually calling goblin to ensure my key goblins hit the field, or human if I feel that there's a chance for Norin to be removed and countered consistently. 20 SCM because I am running Scrying Sheets , and 4 fetches which actually brings us to...

Tumultuous: Turn 4 Warp World? Sounds good to me. Show

Fairly self explanatory mana rocks and Gauntlet of Might for mana doubling. Note: Considering about the addition of Gauntlet of Power and/or Caged Sun (again). Quickly set up your board and watch the fun begin. Honor-Worn Shaku synergizes a bit with Norin and the other legends that would otherwise just chill on the field. If you're finding yourself taking too much damage from Mana Crypt then simply exchange it for something better .

Clarity: Tunnel vision through the chaos. Show

The cards here are all about thinning the deck and card advantage. Fetches work well with Crucible of Worlds for even more thinning. And if you have absolutely nothing to do with that extra mana at the end of your turn you can use the Sheets; Sensei's Divining Top helps this a bit too. Recruiter is amazing as it can grab almost any other creature in the deck. And the choppa allows Norin to fly and attack (or block) while looting.

Entropy: Dissipate the rabble. Show

Hate lands? Maybe artifacts , creatures , even color? . The added benefit is that some of these come from etb effects. Mogg Infestation can be used on opponents in a pinch but I much prefer to use it on myself to really stack those ETBs and pump out a lot of damage.

Discord: Confuse, provoke, disorient! Warning, some of the cards in this category may ruin friendships. Show

This is your disruption. Blood Moon + Magus of the Moon take care of nonbasics, it's okay though, at least you will be able to use all that red mana. Goad your enemies, even if they come after you, you have chump blockers for days. You can even mess with their hands with Memory Jar or simply refill your own with a Wheel of Fortune effect. One of my favorite cards in this deck is Grip of Chaos , nearly everyone I've played against has absolutely hated it and one time it got 7 people to scoop on Turn 4 in a massive 8 player game. Warp World , another one of my favorite cards, really shines if you have a lot of tokens in play, which is really easy with Genesis Chamber + Norin the Wary . Be careful, however, as I've sat for an hour on multiple occasions as everyone scrambles to try and find an answer as all the ETB triggers are stacked and resolved.

Engines of War: This is what you're really here for! Show

Let's start with Purphoros, God of the Forge , when he was revealed I nearly cried tears of joy. This card is absolutely sick with Norin doing anywhere from 2-8 damage a round (assuming a 4 player pod) by merely acting wary as hell, and bothcards are somewhat of a pain to remove. A good thing to keep in mind is that when Purphoros is not on the battlefield he is a creature card, so when you hit him in a Warp World he'll see any other creature that hits the field when he does even though he may not be a creature if you don't have enough devotion. Add in Genesis Chamber , other token generators and creatures for a really oppressive board. Pandemonium + Warstorm Surge to put more pain on players, or hit their walkers, or if there's a threatening creature to remove. Caution is needed when playing Pandemonium because your opponents can abuse it (and you) so try to only play it right before something like Mogg Infestation, or if you have mana to dump a lot of creatures onto the field. Outpost Siege is normally run in Dragon mode, but if you're finding you need the cards Khans can be effective as well, so a dash of utility there. Last engine is Confusion in the Ranks . Norin is perfect for this, he's always coming and going and coming right back. The artifact lands can grab opponents artifacts, or you could use Liquimetal Coating and take any permanent of your choosing. Sacrifice the things you take if you want to take more or if you want to bring back some recycled metal from your graveyard with Daretti, Scrap Savant + Goblin Welder .

Dissidents: Don't worry, the bloc's got your back. Show

Once the engines are started what do we do? Simple really, we bring MORE friends ! Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker has quite a few good targets, battlesphere probably being the best but it can vary depending on board-state. Welder and Daretti can do some fun things, swapping artifacts in and out of the bin, and as previously mentioned you can take advantage of liquimetal coating and confusion in the ranks to supply sac targets for them. Feldon of the Third Path will keep your gang coming back, as artifacts nonetheless! Ogre Battledriver not only allows your creatures to do things as they come out, it also beefs them up to help deal damage whether it be through attacking or Pandemonium + Warstorm Surge . Norin's best friend is still in the deck because I find him useful as a sac target, chump block, and keeping Chandra Ablaze , ablaze. I have a feeling I'll be cutting him for a more relevant creature but still find uses for him in my meta it seems. It also just kinda feels wrong for Norin to be left hanging without his right hand man, they both like to come back for more.

Ancient Relics: Kind of the "Win More" category. Show

Cloudstone Curio , Conjurer's Closet , and Panharmonicon are all about getting more out of your ETBs, again please be careful with Panharmonicon and Pandemonium because your opponent's creatures will get double Pandemonium triggers as well, although if you have Grip of Chaos in play it could be pretty fun watching everyone smack themselves or their own creatures in the face. Sculpting Steel is already nice on it's own and with liquimetal coating you can turn it into anything you see, barring any hexproof, but you also bring plenty of your own good artifacts. Having a second of those is icing on the cake. Mimic Vat to copy any creatures that get removed, or if an opponent has a yummy creature to copy. Then there's Tormod's Crypt to take care of opponent recursion. The reason I'm using this over Relic of Progenitus comes down to my own artifact recursion, once you pop Relic it's gone. Sure you get a card, but those reanimator decks have plenty of ways to come back. Either way, I'm watching this slot to see if I even need graveyard hate or if it could be a better card altogether.
