I think the 4 Ghor-Clan Rampager is fine as is 3 Flame-Wreathed Phoenix . Sideboard looks good too. I'm not a standard player but those are my thoughts.

Does anyone have thoughts on: Flame-Wreathed Phoenix (replacing Ember Swallower ), Felhide Spiritbinder (the other option for replacing swallower or maybe Twinflame ), or Burning-Tree Emissary (replacing Kalonian Tusker )?

Courser of Kruphix could possibly be good in this deck. A 2/4 is kind of hard to deal with and it gives you some life gain. I am more in favor of Flame-Wreathed Phoenix just because I like flyers and I feel like either way you tribute is pretty beneficial. I'm not fond of blowing up my own lands with Ember Swallower

first off, courser is around $8, and I don't really want to spend that much on a card I don't particularly need. If I did, I would run 2 in place of Fanatic of Xenagos . Flame-Wreathed Phoenix was cut in favor of Ember Swallower because phoenix just didn't seem to be too solid. after entering, he is susceptible to removal and doesn't get any bigger once he hits the field. Ember Swallower , as a 4/5 for 4 mana, is already strong, and getting to be a 7/8 is nothing to laugh at. since my entire deck, with the exception of Stormbreath Dragon , can be run on four lands (or less with Elvish Mystic , Sylvan Caryatid , and Xenagos, The Reveler ), so losing three out of the 7 needed to monstrous him isn't a huge loss. By the time you have 7 lands, sacrificing four of them to add a 7/8 to your already large army of dragons, hydras and beasts isn't really a big deal. Besides, monstrous is san optional ability.

Flame-Wreathed Phoenix should replace Ember Swallower +1

CrunchyPeanutAjani, Ember Swallower is a 4/5 for 4 condition less, whereas phoenix can be just a 3/3. also, phoenix can't get bigger once it hits the field, and after 2 or 3 FNMs with phoenix, I found that he wasn't consistent enough. Thanks for your input though ;)

may want to run genesis hydra to dig for your big guys. with the ramp and maybe nylea god of the hunt he will be great and nylea can help your other monsters get past. also you should run some kind of enchantment removal in your main board to deal with gods. i use curse of the swine because it can pretty much be a board wipe, even better if you follow through with an anger of the gods. another option for enchantment removal would be unravel the eather. let me know what you think

totalyepic, thank you for the suggestions. i was playing genesis hydra before rtf rotated and this deck was just green/red, he wasn't great, and now i have 3 colors, so i cut him for more useful cards. also, gods aren't played very much in standard anymore (at least where i play fnm) so enchantment removal is saved for the sideboard (Polis Crusher has pro.gods). thanks anyway.

i understand you not liking him, but im just wondering, did you know genesis grabs walkers too, the ability to dig and grab still gos off even if genesis hydra is countered, and you can pump mana into genesis hydra with xenagos. thats why i feel hes just to good to pass up. also you have surrak dragonclaw so nylea would be redundant, nylea is just harder to get rid of =]

Bear's Companion , Temur Ascendancy , Heir of the Wilds , Dragon Grip ?

firestar157, Bear's Companion is a good card, but I already have Stormbreath Dragon , Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker and Surrak Dragonclaw in the 5-mana spot. Dragon Grip doesn't give as much of a boost as I would like for 3 mana, Temur Charm is a better noncreature 3-drop because it's multipurpose. The other 2 I might consider, but probably won't add until I can test this deck at FNM. Thanks for the suggestions.

I really think that Elvish Mystic is a little more faster than Rattleclaw Mystic . +1 for me though.

misterJ, the original deck name before rtr rotated was "not gruul? then die!". GRU sounds like Gruul. It's kind of a pun.
