Wrong clan to quote there (entirely wrong plane) but still 100% accurate. My favorite Modern deck is Jund, but I feel like one of the things it's sorely missing is hard removal, which this deck gets 4 extra copies of in Path to Exile. All the non-green all stars are back boyos, and they're ready to make you cry just as hard as always.
The deck is fairly straightforward: react, react, react, kill you. (Please don't fine me, Fine Bros.) I am as of yet unsure how good a wincon Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is, but I think it finishes well enough to warrant testing. I've spoken to some people, and I feel the 3-1 Lili split is really efficient against decks like Infect and Vizier Company, where almost all their creatures will die to Liliana, the Last Hope's +. Grim Lavamancer is this deck's equivalent to Scavenging Ooze, one that is worse at gaining life vs burn and better at taking out little dudes and shooting the face. Trade-offs, you know?
This deck I feel can easily get flooded out against really hard, and I like 1 maindeck Damnation in this creature-heavy format. Even against DSA, the card can easily be a solid 2-for-1, taking a Death's Shadow and Gurmag Angler down quite well. Post-board, we get even better sweepers for decks like Affinity, but game 1, this helps shore up a couple percentage points we'd otherwise lose.
On the subject of affinity, I've determined that I prefer Vandalblast over By Force because outside our 3 sweepers, the deck has BIG issues handling Etched Champion. It also ends up being better with Glimmervoid in play. You're likely wondering about the 2 Kitchen Finks in the board. Burn seems like a really rough matchup, since we don't get to play Mr. ScOozerino, and I learned from Reid Duke that casting it as a 1GG (or in our case, 1WW) creature with a solid body that gains you up to 4 life. It's a great blocker for Goblin Guide and a solid attacker.
Other than that. I think most of this deck is mostly just goodstuff.dec. I'm gonna stream myself running this on Cockatrice next week at twitch.com/Ojucri. Any advice you have would be really helpful. Thanks in advance, and happy playing!
