Sideboard help needed! I have no idea what to put in the sideboard of this deck that could actually be worth running.
I started this deck to test out an idea about Extraction effects. While largely shunned in other decks for being very limited in use, this deck has shown me that when used in a large quantity as a preemptive strike, cards like Memoricide and Surgical Extraction can be hugely effective in ruining almost any deck. Credit for the Lantern goes to Jojja who suggested it in the forum.
The strategy is pretty easy:
First we build the prison with Cathartic Adept
+
Codex Shredder
+
Lantern of Insight
together these let you mill cards that your opponent may need. Primarily I like to mill out every land that comes up. The more copies of each the less your opponent gets to use.
Using the prison + Extirpate/ Surgical Extraction let's you get a good look at what their playing and if they have anything that could break your hold on their deck or turn the game around if they manage to play it.
Memoricide eats up their artifact removal of any anti-mill cards they may have. It also let's you peak at their hand to see what they have to work with.
Shimian Specter is a hand fixer on a stick with the added effect of Extraction. If left unchecked it can eat the whole deck. Also it comes with flying.
Should they manage to play something Rune Snag is a cheap counter that can still be useful late game and Echoing Truth doubles as both a bounce and a mass token removal.
In quite a few occasions Echoing Truth
+
Shimian Specter
have caused tables flipping rage by extracting the only play they could still make
Lastly, Fog Bank soaks up damage in combat which helps to stall out agro decks.
Any advice on how to clean this up a little or Better card options would be greatly appreciated, I'm aiming at getting into some local competitive modern and I think this deck could do it.
