Noyan Dar, American Soil Shaper

Standard* Competitive Control RUW (Jeskai, America)

Doc28

Sideboard

This is the deck that I plan to test and play at GP Oakland in January.

This is a classic American Control list with a twist. Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper is the new finisher of choice, and his synergy with Jeskai Ascendancy is one of the best reasons to run him. Enjoy, and as always all suggestions are appreciated.

Card Choices:

-Anticipate:

Helps find anything you could need at the moment. Automatic 4-of, no questions asked. At worst it's an instant speed draw and at best it's practically a tutor.

- Clash of Wills :

Good counter for the early game that is still useful late. Since it clashes with other cards for its inclusion, I'm keeping it as a 2-of.

- Coastal Discovery :

Super Mulldrifter that is versatile. It can either serve as a simple draw spell, a creature with draw attached, or a pump spell with draw attached. It's a 2-of for now, but that could change after more testing.

-Dig Through Time:

Digging at its best. 4-of. No discussion needed.

- Jeskai Ascendancy :

One of this deck's core cards, it allows our manlands to repeatedly tap and untap. Even without manlands out, it makes our spells that much better. Multiple ascendancies are even more bonkers.

- Jeskai Charm :

A solid, versatile instant that is relevant in all of its modes. It serves as removal, damage to the head, or an anthem. We can keep this as a 2-of due to the large amount of draw.

-Narset Transcendent:

Makes more cast triggers with Rebound, helps put more spell into our hand, and wins the game with her ultimate. Pretty impressive.

- Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper :

The combo centerpiece and our best win condition. It stands as a 3-of because we only need to draw one to win.

-Ojutai's Command:

Another versatile card. Playing with a white/blue base allows for this card's inclusion, which is a great reason to be going Jeskai. In this deck it serves as a slightly worse Cryptic Command, but that is good enough to warrant 3-of status.

-Planar Outburst:

We expect to draw into this when combo-ing off, but we don't always need it. There's only one mainboard copy because of this, but for creature heavy matchups three more wait in the sideboard.

-Scatter to the Winds:

An upgraded Cancel that is at its best in this deck. Awaken is extremely relevant, meaning that casting it for its awaken cost is more valuable than in other control decks. A solid 3-of, expect this thing to do work.

-Stasis Snare:

Efficient instant-speed exile. Bad in enough matchups that some copies ended up in the sideboard.

-Treasure Cruise:

A one-of only because the number of delves spells should remain at five. Dig is better, but Cruise was banned in eternal formats for good reason.

-Valorous Stance:

Acts as protection for Noyan Dar and as removal. More are in the sideboard for relevant matchups.
