{W} INSPIRATION {W}

My take on a Trynn and Silvar Human Aristocrats deck. Comments and critiques are appreciated!

I have always played Mardu. I love the combination of producing tokens, aristocrats, graveyard recursion, and burn/lifegain.

As I’ve said in my other lists, Mardu isn’t too oppressive, but can still be competitive. This deck has some infinite combos, but relies mainly on Human creature synergy and commander damage through Silvar, Devourer of the Free.

This deck came to fruition from the Ruthless Regiment Commander 2020 precon deck and my own additions. I enjoyed the synergy presented as a precon, but Jirina Kudro didn’t feel as competitive as Trynn, Champion of Freedom and Silvar, Devourer of the Free. With my additions of Human synergy, the deck feels a lot more competitive.

{B} COMBOS {B}

• Fiend Hunter + Sac Outlet

This combo isn’t too difficult. With Fiend Hunter, we can exile creatures, then sac Fiend Hunter before the second text has a chance to begin/resolve. This permanently gets rid of targetable creatures and this combo can be repeated with graveyard recursion.

• Fiend Hunter + Angel of Glory's Rise + sac outlet

Whereas the last combo didn’t want Fiend Hunter to fully resolve, we do with this combo. We can actually target our own Angel of Glory's Rise, after casting Fiend Hunter, and then sac Fiend Hunter, which brings back Angel of Glory's Rise, and all the Humans from our grave, including Fiend Hunter. This creates an infinite loop of death/ETB triggers for whatever combo we would like to pull off. Zulaport Cutthroat, Bastion of Remembrance, or any other creature that enjoys have creatures brought back appreciate this, like Silvar, Devourer of the Free. This combo can be interrupted, since sorcery speed and it has to let Fiend Hunter fully resolve, but if uninterrupted, can lead to big damage or lifegain/loss.

• Luminous Broodmoth

If you have the chance, you can sacrifice all your Humans right before your turn begins, if Luminous Broodmoth is on the field, and bring them all back with flying. This gives your field a TON of evasion and can help threaten opponents on your upcoming turn.

• Jirina Kudro

Since both our commanders are counted individually, Jirina Kudro‘s ETB effect counts for the total number of both commanders. This helps if the opponent keeps resetting our commanders or we have to sac Trynn, Champion of Freedom to Silvar, Devourer of the Free to keep it Indestructible. If you wanted, Jirina Kudro can be swapped into the commander position and Trynn, Champion of Freedom and Silvar, Devourer of the Free can return to the deck as part of the 99. This supports the Human Tribal synergy more, but makes some of the sacrifice combos harder to pull off. Also, Winota, Joiner of Forces becomes harder to trigger, since our only other non-Human creature is Luminous Broodmoth.

{R} SUGGESTIONS {R}

• Dictate of Erebos/Butcher of Malakir

This would take advantage of all the creatures that die on our side of the field, and clear the board for Silvar, Devourer of the Free to attack for almost lethal commander damage, especially since it has Menace.

• Living Death

I’ve contemplated bringing this in and doing a big combo with Silvar, Devourer of the Free by sacrificing our side of the board, while Living Death is “on the stack”. Then, when all the creatures are in the graveyard, the board get wiped (ignoring Indestructible, Shroud, Hexproof, Protection, etc) and bringing back the graveyard. This combo works well against noncreature combo decks that maybe have 1-2 big, evasive creatures for protection, then lets us swing.

• Palace Siege

Simply another recursion tool. With everything else we run, I haven’t felt that I needed it, but it is nice to have in mind.

• Blood Artist/Cruel Celebrant/Falkenrath Noble/Vindictive Vampire

These creatures, along with Zulaport Cutthroat, would be great in a lifegain/loss based strategy, but they don’t add to the Human tribal synergy of the deck.

• Falkenrath Aristocrat

Similar to Silvar, Devourer of the Free, it can serve as a sac outlet, as well as a threat, while simultaneously giving it Indestructible. It has flying, as opposed to Menace, so it is still evasive.

• Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Altar

Another sac outlet, that we can combine with Exsanguinate, Debt to the Deathless, Death Grasp, Finale of Glory, Secure the Wastes, or Martial Coup for big lifeloss or creature production.
