Title referencing starcrafttt?

Gyre sage is not as good as arbor elf IMO

Yes. Yes that is a Starcraft reference. Another man's game.

...And as far as Gyre Sage goes, I think its pretty damn boss when coupled with Corpsejack Menace and Primordial Hydra no?

Yes it is in that combination but it's more delicate on its own, as a standalone card.

If you're going to use Gyre Sage , I'd recommend cutting a Lotleth Troll and a Primordial Hydra for it. You won't want the hydra loading up your hand early on, and there's few creatures you'll really want to discard to Lotleth Troll .

Deathrite Shaman you can run 3 of in the SB against control and reanimator decks, along with Liliana of the Veil against control if you have any. I wouldn't recommend main-decking it since you don't have any source for dumping lands into your graveyard.

EMRAKOOL is dead on. The hydra is a dead early draw and the troll will kill your deck with most of these creatures you are running. The slitherhaeads are really the only options to drop for the troll. You want the others on the field. Liliana is also a deafinite include agaisnt a lot of builds.

Any thoughts on Rogue's Passage? With a pumped up Primordial Hydra it can be game ending. I'm thinking about throwing two in there. I also just got a playset of Thespian's Stage but i dont think there is a place for it in this deck, maybe sideboard.

I would keep in the Dreg Mangler, it's one of the better Scavenge cards out there. Plus, with a Lotleth Troll, you want to keep as much scavenge as you can for discard.

@acbooster

Yeah, I was thinking about replacing the Arbor Elf with the Slitherhead for that very reason, either way either have a home in my sideboard. For a deck destruction opponent, the Slitherhead would replace the Gyre Sage and Arbor Elf for sure.

I would tend to agree with your view of Lotleth Troll. Although he does get +1/+1 counters, it's reare that a counter is better than the creature you have to discard... that's what makes him powerful in Zombie decks, where scavenge and Gravecrawler add to the discarding.

Personally, I would suggest trying out Experiment One in it's place. more (free) chances for +1/+1 counters, can regenerate if needed, and less downfall in general for this deck... odd that I suggest it, as I don't really like it when compared to other Evolve; but it's mono green, and would fit well here.

I'm also not sure about Arbor Elf... again, odd that I would suggesttaking it out, as I love that card... but once again, it doesn't add to the synergy of the deck. Additional Gyre Sage's would cover the ramping, while synergizing with everything else.

Vraska the Unseen is best as removal... if you can control the board long enough to get her ultimate, you probably would have already won. Don't aim for her ultimate, and she can be used for a few instances of her -3. Probably best as a sideboard card though.

In general, I would suggest: -3 Arbor Elf, / -3 Lotleth Troll, / -2 Vraska the Unseen, / +3 Experiment One, / +1 Gyre Sage, / +2 Predator Ooze, / +1 Vampire Nighthawk, / +1 Increasing Savagery.

Alternatively, keep the savegry and nighthawks where they are, and add 2x Garruk... which one may be questionable. Garruk, Primal Hunter would be my first choice, as the 3/3 every turn has synergy with Evolve, and the card draw is awesome in a synergy deck.

+1 for deck so far!

@Rayenous

Thanks for the write up. I think we both have the same ideas. As for right now I added the Slitherhead playset back in, reduced the Lotleth Troll by one (now only two), and added a second Rogue's Passage. I am a bit wary about removing my Arbor Elfs but if the games played at the last standard my Gyre Sage got pretty big, pretty fast. The removal of the elfs will reduce early game speed, but allow me to have some happy discards again with Slitherhead back in the game, plus its both mana types so if I have to play one to stall I can. We'll see how it goes this Wednesday.

Oh and substituted the two Golgari Charm for two Sheltering Word. I think the charm is more of a sideboard card anyway.

Switched out Sheltering Word for Essence Harvest. Moved Sheltering Word to sideboard.

I'm running Forced Adaptation on my BG-Counter and it's playing very well!

For mana, you can try the gates (a cheap option) !

@ magic_plis

It's a good idea. I don't really have a choice right now, so gates it is.
