Bone Saw is a good equipment card that is really quick.

why is sword of the animist not at least in the sideboard?

Callmegkill, Bone Saw is good, I just can't find a spot for it.

Archstanding, I can't think of a matchup where I would need to side in the ramp provided by Sword of the Animist.

Maybe drop Make a Stand? How has it been working for you in games?

Nelstone says... #5

I haven't tested the deck yet. I've moved Make a Stand to the side in favor of Valorous Stance.

sword of the animist isnt just ramp. it thins your deck out and lets you not worry about drawing lands when you dont need them

Huppster05, that's true. I think that Stoneforge Masterwork and Captain's Claws (especially in multiples, 2-3 allies per attack sounds sweet) are a better fit for this deck.

I do like the idea here, im working on something similar although mine doesnt contain red, but black instead... i feel like the bushwacker, and weapons trader isnt enough to run red imo... but in black u get to have kalastria healers and zulaport cutthroats not to mention some pretty solid removal... gideons, stoneforge acolytes, hangarbacks for the early game.. 4 of the new ayli... it also contains a lot of 1 of equipments such as the sword of the animist, and a pathway arrows for pinging if u do get a ayli to stick to the battlefield.. i really like the concept of this deck, just not convinced that red is the better choice over black.. whats your opinion on this mate

I think the black cards you mentioned would make this deck a lesser version of the 4 color Rally the Ancestors decks out there now. You really want to sack creatures with Zulaport Cutthroat and Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim on the board, which goes against the usage Stoneforge Masterwork. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Hangarback Walker, while both great in either of our decks, puts them way out of budget range.

There could be a good black-based equipment/allies deck, but it's going to be very different from this build.

Kommand kinda screws up your game plan

Yes, and everything dies to Doom Blade, too. Note that I didn't say "No one is packing ANY Artifact hate."

Cool deck man. I've been putting together a very similar deck for the upcoming game day and had some thoughts. Would appreciate your input.

  1. What do you think about Kazuul's Toll Collector? I know it's not an ally, but the 0 cost to equip is pretty sweet.

  2. What are your thoughts on running 2-3 of Makindi Aeronaut for evasion?

  3. In playtesting, Stoneforge Acolyte does major work. I'm running 4 of him. Thoughts on that?

Cheers mate.

I think having Oath of Gideon, and Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip would complement this deck really nicely. Your thoughts?

Klavs,

  1. Kazuul's Toll Collector is a cool equipment using card, but it's lack of synergy with allies and Stoneforge Masterwork is a real knock against it. It could work in a deck utilizing equipment, I just don't think this is the one for it.

  2. Makindi Aeronaut could be an interesting addition. I'll work with it and see if it fits.

  3. Stoneforge Acolyte may take the place of Relic Seeker. I really want Relic Seeker to work, but it's proving difficult to get it renown with any regularity on turn 3 or beyond. That's a bummer, because I'd like to see the card be playable.

tomplays.mtg,

Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip is better in a white weenie shell similar to this: Savannah Lions by Saffron Olive. Oath of Gideon is kind of a nonbo with Kytheon, as once he flips, his loyalty isn't too big of a focus. Unlike most Planeswalkers, he has no ultimate nor minus ability. It does make him a little more difficult to get off the battlefield, and the two allies trigger ally abilities, so there is that.

Thanks for the feedback. Cheers.

Lots of decks are running a copy or two of Radiant Flames. This would wipe your field, minus the one creature equipped with Stoneforge Masterwork, and for that they have Murderous Cut or Crackling Doom. I would honestly advise getting a Gideon, Ally of Zendikar or two, swapping out Needle Spires for something else, because at the point in time you have that plus 4 extra mana, you should already be winning and not needing this, plus it has no synergy with the rest of your deck, its just a r/w land, which you have plenty of, so swap out for 1-2 mountains and 2 more Wind-Scarred Crags. Also, Expedition Envoy is really bad unless you have some way to give trample, like Brute Strength. This lets your "tall" guy actually hit in case your opponent kills your fliers immediately, or has a Hangarback Walker to chump block you infinitely.

Radiant Flames is why I'm running Valorous Stance and two Make a Stand in the sideboard. You just can't run your creatures out there and be tapped out; you need to play a more conservative game and leave up mana from the protection.

Gideon, Ally of Zendikar would be terrific in this deck, but it's just too much money. If I owned two, sure, I'd make room for them, but my goal is to make build an aggressive deck on a budget.

Needle Spires is great late-game and I love running four of them. If I can beat down my opponent early-to-mid game and work through their instead speed removal, Needle Spires can finish the job in quick order.

Expedition Envoy gives the deck early game action, and once I assemble pieces, becomes a 4/3 or 5/4 on the battlefield. This deck can win by turn 4-5, but it can also play a conservative game. Expedition Envoy can help clog up the ground, and then a suited-up Makindi Aeronaut can fly in for the win.

Needle Spires is not where you want to be, again it has no synergy and no evasion, literally any chump blocker prevents it from doing anything, and you spent your entire turn turning it on and equipping it, and all that equipment falls off eot. I didn't see Make a Stand in the sideboard, I'm seeing it in the maybe board, and I would very highly recommend putting that in the sideboard instead of Boiling Earth

I agree that Make a Stand needs to be in the 75. Boiling Earth may find a spot if token strategies become more prevalent. I disagree regarding Needle Spires; it's shown value after board wipes on numerous occasions in testing.

Really cool deck, have you thought about the combo that Jeskai Ascendancy and Stoneforge Acolyte has with equipment's, like your Bone Saw but also Spidersilk Net? I think it would change the synergy a little, but what it adds might be worth it. What do you think?

February 2, 2016 9:33 a.m.

Nelstone says... #21

Jeskai Ascendancy is an interesting recommendation. I think it would alter this deck too much to include it, but I could see it being used to create a similar build. Spidersilk Net would be good in that deck.

Is it alright if I use your deck list to create the Jeskai Ascendancy deck? I will give you the credit for what I use, just wanted to make sure it was okay before I do.

This deck looks great! Definitely on my list for decks I want to build. Interested to hear how well it plays once you get it going. Great build!

Loving the deck. Boros and Orzhov are just magnificently flavorful color combos.

Might I recommend Pathway Arrows and/or Hedron Blade? Eldrazi are a thing right now, and you may need some late game answers to some of the bigger ones. I would also recommend at least a 2-of Stasis Snare. It is a bit slow, but it can deal with some large things you can't efficiently burn or chump down.

I also would second the notion of running Spidersilk Net. Slapping it on an Expedition Envoy can provide some decent cover to some of the still prevalent flying threats. Or throw it on an Aeronaut for Khardashian defense.

Finally, I would recommend Monastery Swiftspear or Monastery Mentor, as it is pretty simple to get prowess triggers with how cheap your artifacts are, but they will rotate in a couple of months.
