I got into magic twice. Once When I was way younger and stopped playing around Ice Age. The second time I picked it up during Return to Ravnica. Which according to my play style feels like it was meant to happen. I love to Abrupt Decay shit! So anyway I wanted to make mono black a competitive thing, however after discovering what holds it back and how to fix the problem was the first as well as obvious choice to add in. I connect with the Golgari theme on another level. In person I'm a very gloomy individual who loves nature... Watching things live and finding comfort in darker aspects of life.

There are a lot of iconic black cards in this deck as 4 ofs: Bitterblossom, Damnation, Liliana of the Veil, Thoughtseize, & Smallpox . That's what makes this deck what it is. I wanted a deck that I could run each of these as a full playset.

This is an attrition based control deck and can be rather difficult to pilot without experience. There are often multiple strategies available in your opening hand and you need to gauge which is most effective for the specific match up.

Misplaying a Smallpox can cost you the game. So let me explain this card to begin with. The turn 1 default plan is to discard their biggest immediate threat or combo piece and gauge what kind of deck your against. This can easily switch if you know that they are going to play a threat that you would be more advantageous to pox away instead. You should also pay attention to how many lands they have. Pox in general is good against Aggro, Burn, Tron, Infect, decks with low land counts and sensitive mana bases. It's usually bad against Midrange, 8Rack, Creatureless Control, Vengvine and decks that want stuff in the grave. There are times that Smallpox ing a midrange deck can sway things in your favor and poxing a burn deck is a bad call. The basic judgment rule though is if you can 2 for 1 the opponent or completely screw their mana base for a while not setting yourself too far back go for it.

In this deck Smallpox is our Cryptic Command it does a multitude of things we want. Disruption, 2 for 1s, removal, Abyssal Persecutor answer key and a way of dealing that very last point of damage. All for only .

So there are multiple intervals at wich to pox. Typically the first is T2 and the second T4. Being Smallpox ed with Liliana of the Veil online can be a lot to overcome. The last most common interval is T7 of which Percy should have put enough work to cleanse for the kill.
