Problem is that DRS is so much more than a Mana dork.

I don't think that bitterblossom is a good choice for BGx decks, even with swords. It will kill you more than help you.

I've been having rather good success in play tests with it.

I'm playing something similar, and was wondering which would be better 4 Tarmogoyf or 4 Phyrexian Obliterator ?

4 Goyfs all day. So much better. I go back and fourth on if it's even worth it to run Obliterator. When it hits the field & sticks it wins games. Trouble is there is a lot of time before it hits the field. Especially now that DRS is banned.

I loved this deck since DRS was in it. +1 and keep up the good work!

Did you see Julian Wildes' GB Obliterator Rock made top 16 at Richmond?

No sweet! I was looking on top 8 and saw that Pod & Affinity dominated. Was like can we get DRS back? lol
But yea, I've been watching the top rock decks post DRS banned. Noticed they're all running Phyrexian Obliterator and was like Hell yea!!! ahead of my time :)
I like the addition of Slaughter Pact not sold on Courser of Kruphix but I guess if it's used as a Kitchen Finks replacement it's somewhat better. Not MBing Victim of Night myself, rather have another Abrupt Decay

Yea the way Ensnaring Bridge works with Bitterblossom in 8Rack is pretty sweet.

just found some one who will sell me a playset of bitterblossoms. so happy making my deck even more of a brain ache for opponents. been tempted to splash green. and make deathcloud.

Hell yea, tight!
I bought mine before they were unbanned for 30$ each. Still kicking myself for not buying them as foils when foils were only 40$
The card is sick. Even if nowadays it is outclassed by Lingering Souls and Young Pyromancer (the later particularly with pox). When it's stacked or there is a sword on the board it's sweet to say the least. It also offers an extensive resource which helps vs fair decks quite a bit.

What do you do when you don't know what to make them discard?
July 4, 2014 6:04 a.m.
APPLE01DOJ says... #20
I usually go for what I feel would be their next play. Unless I see something I know will give me some serious issues if I don't take care of it. Usually a discard & a pox really set things back. If I get Lilly online during early game, it makes it damn near impossible to recover from. lol I've had people concede after a T2 Pox followed by a T3 pox & I've also had people not concede and meet their demise at a Lilly ultimate poppin off. :)
This deck functions somewhat similar to 8Rack. 8Rack relies on Ensnaring Bridge to nullify threats. Smallpox relies on destroying your opponents mana-base so that they can't play anything. Fulminator Mage game 2 is just all that more badass.
Do u think I should MB the 2x Courser of Kruphix or Spellskite ?
July 4, 2014 12:04 p.m.
But surely if you went T2 pox into T3 pox then both you and the opponent would be on 1 land by T3. Neither you nor them can do anything in that situation so why concede? As far as I can tell you can't get Liliana out T1 so if you did open the game with pox into another pox then you'd be in as bad a state as them. Like, it would be a draw. Unless you happened to go first, I guess. A lot of modern decks are fine on two mana - Snapcaster Mage , Dark Confidant , Lightning Bolt , Path to Exile , Scavenging Ooze , Pestermite . These are all things that you can see an opponent play on 2 land. That would happily put some pressure on a Liliana if she followed the next turn. Even more so if they managed to play two 2-drops. Also - if this deck does like to keep the land count low, why Sword of Fire and Ice ? That requires significant mana investment and time before it does anything - and even then if they have a blocker it could do nothing. I've found swords to kind of be clunky and expensive. I could see you running Night's Whisper though.
I would imagine that this deck plays better if you manage to go T2 killspell, T3 liliana, T4 pox, T5 pox? Because then you deal with the early drops, and you get time to set Liliana up for an ult while you keep them down on land. I would be more scared of that than T2 pox, T3 pox, T4 liliana.
Regarding your mana base - if you do lie to keep the opponent low on resources, why not run Tectonic Edge . It would help you in a variety of matchups and help keep the pressure up. I could see 1 or 2 making their way into this list.
I don't think courser of spellskite would help you in the mainboard. Spellskite would do what? Come out against burn I suppose? But then it would only work with the spells, not the creatures like Goblin Guide (although it could block one), and when dealing with spells you'd have to Shock yourself anyway. I don't think that's very efficient. Could help against twin? I guess - but then if you keep them low on lands they can't play their combo anyway so again, it's not useful. Courser of Kruphix , is not a card that I'd like to play alongside 4x Smallpox . I don't know if you're reach it reliably enough - but you know your mana base better than I do.
I would also be concerned about running Damnation
along with Smallpox
. If you have used Smallpox
then it's unecessary because they won't have much. If you haven't then it's fine - but it makes Smallpox
that much less effective. Besides being a 4-drop which is a tad slow for some decks.

Tectonic Edge requires them to have 4 lands. This deck is trying to keep them below that count as much as possible.
Ghost Quarter on the other hand will punish them for having a lot of nonbasics.
July 4, 2014 12:27 p.m.
It is - but will sometimes fail to keep them on that little land.
I think Ghost Quarter is probably the better option.

I think there is a little too much theory behind your words... This deck played better when DRS was alive. U could T2 LIlly & T3 Pox or Percy. DRS being banned was a huge hit to this deck. Damnation has saved the day so many times. I used to run 2 SB but then dropped some Surgical Extraction s for them MB. After having used them quite a bit, I felt the need to bump them up to 4. At a point in time I had 3 Tech Edges in here and while they did offer a lot of benefit, they did more harm then good. That specific match I'm talking about was Vs KIki Pod. Double Poxed away his mana rampers & fairly sure the only thing he had left in hand was a Birthing Pod . I run a singleton of the Sword because it flat out kicks ass with both Obliterator & Percy. It's a very late game play & that is important to have a back up plan. It used to be Lashwrithe which kicks ass but the sword offers more utility. It's personal preference but I quite like swords. I also have a standard deck with Godsend in it for that very reason.
Spellskite stops Twin & Infect (both of which are in my meta) in this deck it would protect Lilly & absorb Bolt. Given how suicidal this deck is, a top decked Bolt can be rough. I own some Watery Grave to throw in, so I wouldn't have to shock more than once.
Courser of Kruphix is what this deck needs. The double green would be rather easy to achieve. (I mean Treetop Village is essential the same CMC. Twilight Mire is so out of line good.) Life gain from fetches plus cracking fetches to help me find answers for Percy if need be. Only issue is space, right now ScOoze is in the slot. ScOoze offers life gain too and is typically awesome in Pox. I like that ScOoze encourages keeping mana open for Abrupt Decay and with a Twilight Mire on the board I can utilize it as double green instead of G/B EOT. So I dunno, wish there was more space for both. lol
