How do u guys feel about Trinisphere as a psuedo Nether Void ?
July 4, 2014 1:26 p.m.
Sorry. I'm on Oli day so I can't comment as much as I want. Trinisphere is underplayed in modern, that's all I know. Don't know whether that's because it's bad or just not recognised.

MindAblaze! Game 1 rarely do I keep a hand with no Pox. If I have Lilly & Damnation & like 3 lands and an Abrupt Decay or a hand loaded with Inquisition of Kozilek & Thoughtseize I'll keep it. ..But for the most part I attempt to only keep Pox hands.
Game 2, I'll side out Pox completely if I feel I need to. It's not quite as effective VS control & stuff like Obstinate Baloth and Loxodon Smiter suck to be up against.

ChiefBell, it's not bad but is typically used as a SB card vs Storm as far as modern goes.

The hard part about running Trinisphere is you are running an artifact against a deck with access to R. Nether Void is an enchantment which dodges R's removal.
If you were to run it against my tokenstorm deck it wouldn't do you much good. (That and Goblin Electromancer will negate the effect for the most part.

In order to play Trinisphere , you have to have a godly mana base. I would struggle to play one in Tron...that should tell you something. It's a much better card in Vintage because of Mishra's Workshop . Cloudpost and Ancient Tomb make it a viable Legacy option. Modern doesn't have anything nearly as good. All it takes is for you to play a poorly timed Smallpox or have your opponent Tectonic Edge you and you could very well not cast spells for the rest of the game.
Courser of Kruphix has shown itself to be an all-star in Modern. I'd cut Phyrexian Arena right away since Courser of Kruphix fills the same role, except it's on a 2/4 body. I also don't like Raven's Crime in here without Life from the Loam . It's generally a better play to just pitch it to Liliana of the Veil or open with Thoughtseize /Inquisition of Kozilek .
That opens up two slots. If you want to go for a full playset, I'd drop a single Maelstrom Pulse and a Damnation . You don't want to clutter your deck with three-drops. You're also upping your creature count, so Damnation is less effective.

I disagree with replacing phy arena with courser. Courser provides card advantage some of the time - phy arena provides it every turn. I have won many many many many games from phy arena because it's just utterly ridiculously broken.
I would replace the sword as one slot. You said it's great with obliterate - but you don't even run that main board and you only have two. Apart from that you have barely any creatures so it's a bit conditional. Also you could remove ravens crime - it's just mediocre. 7 discard is a lot (in terms of iok and thoightseize). Most decks run somewhere around 6. In a build with damnation AND abrupt decay you can really afford to cut one. If you cut sword, r crime, and one more discard you have 3 slots for courser.

Made some changes, what's every one think? Haven't had a chance to test them out yet.

I like it a lot. Need 25 land for a curve that tops out at 4?

Yes ...in a Smallpox deck 4 mana can be a challenge. Too bad DRS is banned, he made things run so much smoother. Besides there is literally no flex room. The 25th spot is Miren, the Moaning Well which I feel adds a valuable utility. Both it & Garruk, the Veil-Cursed Flip are additional sac outlets for Abyssal Persecutor in a time of need.

Legacy Pox plays 25 with a Curve ending at 3 save a single Nether Void . For a Pox deck my curve is pretty high..

I was wondering what the tech behind the snow lands is? Or do you just like the way they look? Lol

99% I like the way they look. 1% chance I'll play a deck running Imprint.

Specifically Extraplanar Lens . Decks that run it are more likely to run snow lands over normal basics.

There is a 99% chance you've thought about Bob, I'd just like to hear your explanation of why he isn't a good fit for the deck. Is it just because you already take a lot of damage from other cards in the deck?

Because I don't own any and don't plan to cough up the cash for him until after I cough up the cash for a Goyf playset. Just waiting on harvest!

that one copy of chalice and skite in the SB is very weird, if you run chalice you want at least 3 and you don't really need skite. Use a program named mage, it's an automated cockatrice, that will give you some feel into how the deck stands against tier decks.

APPLE01DOJ says... #22
Oddly enough skite & chalice r on the SB mostly for Bolt. This deck does play against Infect quite often. Which skite & chalice r both excellent at as well. Skite has far more uses than just protecting creatures. Infect can't go off, Twin can't go off, Aggro is slowed to a halt, It extends your life vs Scapeshift
I want to run a 2nd Chalice, but really don't have space & while it does shut down things it's only so useful. Not useful enough to drop something else from the SB.

If you want to play the second Chalice of the Void , I think you can safely cut a Fulminator Mage . Fulminator is very good, but I certainly don't think you need four copies.
Note that Infect (Wild Defiance , Twisted Image ), Splinter Twin (Twisted Image , Flame Slash ) and Scapeshift (Repeal , Cryptic Command ) all have ways to remove/get around a Spellskite , so be wary there when you play it.

Yea, it eats Nature's Claim from time to time.
Fulminator Mage is never gonna get cut. Do u know how frustrating it is to stare down a Fulminator Mage after you've just been pox'd? It also serves as a back up plan because Smallpox is certainly not good vs every deck out there. Loxodon Smiter and Obstinate Baloth are a newsense (however that word is spelled) to say the least. Plus Bloodghast and Gravecrawler r a thing.
To be honest I'm quite please with this deck & it's SB's performance lately. The only question is when I get my goyfs what should I take out for them MB? I was thinking maybe a sword and the 3 IoK's (still leaves Seize, Pox, & Lilly for discard) or if I should retweak the creature base?

GlistenerAgent says... #25
I see the logic on Fulminator Mage . I figured that Chalice of the Void on the only spells you can cast would be equally frustrating but also strong in other situations.
When Tarmogoyf gets in the deck (I assume four), I think it's safe to cut Maelstrom Pulse , a sword and the Bitterblossom s. I could be wrong on the function of Bitterblossom with relation to Smallpox , but I feel like you deal yourself a lot of damage as it is and Tarmogoyf plays a similar role in early game defense (albeit with less overall synergy). You could consider cutting a Damnation since you will have a reasonable number of creatures, or discard spells since the deck does that very well already.
Nuisance.

That being said, Tectonic Edge on the board, can actually stall them from playing more lands if they have something like Raging Ravine or their own Treetop Village they need to protect.
