gdemay Thanks for the suggestion!

I love that card and I haven't had it in here because it doesn't effect what I'm doing on my turn and doesn't generate damage -> mana. Still, it's a fun card that I may test out. Could serve as a pseudo board wipe and also reduce the life total of my opponents.

Don't forget to upvote if you like the deck!

Have you considered a Darksteel Plate and Berserkers' Onslaught? Maybe Hammer of Purphoros?

SaifurCommander yay I can finally see your comment! Thanks for the comment and upvote! I've added Darksteel Plate just days before you commented, Berserkers' Onslaught doesn't really do enough for me to sacrifice a 5-drop slot, and Hammer of Purphoros was replaced by Obsidian Battle-Axe. Thanks for looking friend!

Hellkite Tyrant could increase the value of your art sub theme.

Have you considered Hammer of Nazahn? It's another way to give Neheb indestructible to survive your board wiping and synergizes well with all your other equipment.

TheNocholas thanks for the suggestion! The Tyrant would distract from my main gameplan, which is popping off with Neheb. For six mana I want something that deal a lot of damage or draws me cards. The alt win condition also lacks the subtlety this deck needs to win, and would paint a large target on my back. Thanks anyway! Please Upvote if you like the deck!

Kaleidescope I hadn't, but I am now! Definitely a lot of perks, mana cost aside. Biggest issue is what to remove for it? Thanks for the suggestion! Please Upvote if you like the deck!

Very solid deck you have here - convinced my buddy to build a deck with this commander, so I'll have to send him in this direction for inspiration. Looks like Fiery Confluence, Boseiju, Who Shelters All and Cavern of Souls would be helpful as well. Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast would make for great haters in the sideboard as well.

Azdranax thanks! By all means send you buddy over! If he has a decklist I'd be willing to look at that too!

Fiery Confluence is a good one. Could find it's way in but for now I think I have enough damage spells. Boseiju, Who Shelters All is good but the 2 life per use, ETB tapped, and the fact that it won't give me normal colorless mana for free really bothers me. Cavern of Souls is not worth the $45 for this deck. Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast would be good for a sideboard... my meta isn't huge on blue though so for now I'm safe.

Thanks again! Please upvote if you like the deck!

If it were me I'd try replacing Young Pyromancer or Explorer's Scope with Hammer of Nazahn. Young Pyromancer just doesn't seem to be that synergistic with your game plan as you don't actually play that many instants/sorceries (17 total), you don't have anything to do with the tokens and you're probably just going to end up killing the tokens yourself. Explorer's Scope just seems bad honestly. Just think, would you rather have that equipped to Neheb, or Basilisk Collar, Masterwork of Ingenuity, Prying Blade, Slagwurm Armor, etc.?

Kaleidescope good thoughts.

I really do like Hammer of Nazahn.

Young P. might be out soon. Seems like a solid cut. Would raise my curve slightly though and I'm lacking in good 1 and 2 drops. I'll keep considering it.

Explorer's Scope is important. It occasionally ramps and filters the top of my deck, which for mono red is huge. It's a small investment for a high ceiling payoff. In the early game I'd rather have it than any of those equipment, yes.

Hey there! Thanks for the interest in my own Neheb build, Neheb, Summoner of Comets!

I am definitely stealing some of the tech in your list. Notably, Generator Servant is phenomenal, cant believe I missed it as I absolutely adore the card. Also, while Im not as high in equipment in general (feels somewhat win-more a fair bit of the time), I do need to at least get my hands on a Sword of Fire and Ice. What is already the best sword seems so crucial to this deck after reviewing your list.

How has Past in Flames been performing for you? It feels like something that should be in my deck as pseudo card draw, but Ive struggled with the cut to fit it in. My typical feeling on card draw is that it should work when we are behind - when neheb gets hated out, or when we cant get in damage to build our mana up.

How has a lack of mana doublers I.e. Caged Sun been working for you? I have them included as my plan B for when Neheb gets hated out and it has been honestly pretty crucial to the success Ive had. I would say we arent often the target but a well timed Swords to Plowshares can really wreck our day and having an alternate plan seems super important.

Thanks for taking a look Philoctetes!

Yes Generator Servant is awesome. Neheb turn 3 w/ haste too! Insane! Sword of Fire and Ice is really important to my gameplan too, protects Neheb from my own spells, deals damage and occasionally draws me cards which can't be understated for mono-Red. I've found that just a little bit of card advantage goes much further in mono-Red than in say, a Green/Blue deck.

Past in Flames is tricky because it's only a lategame card, and I need stuff in my graveyard. On occasion it's a dead draw, but half the time I'd say, with a fat grave yard(I play against mill a lot), and a ton of mana, it's a game winner. Allowing me to dump my entire 'yard back into action. That's why I keep it in. I don't consider it draw, but more of recursion.

I find mana doublers kinda redundant in Neheb, and even when Neheb's not out they don't even come close to his capabilities, so I don't include them. Only Neheb can Comet Storm where X=350 >:D

So instead of having a back up for Neheb, I prefer to protect him more. The Greaves, Boots, Darksteel Plate, and the Swords of X and Y go a long way in helping keep Neheb on the board. Price of Glory is always nice too, as it limits the "well-timed" removal to their turns, giving you your turn to recast, attack, etc.

Thanks again for the comment!

Saw your post about Arch of Orazca, if you can go for Mikokoro, Center of the Sea or Geier Reach Sanitarium, they're just better

Suns_Champion says... #20

Chiberia while I dislike the thought of giving cards to my opponents, I do realize that drawing cards is a bigger advantage for me in mono-red than it is is for other colors. I'll think about them. I like the Arch because it only gives it to me and Neheb can pay for the 5 easily.

Thanks for the comment!

Hello Suns_Champion! I admire all of your decks and just wanted to say that I love this deck! Keep making great decks, because all of them are worth an upvote!

February 17, 2018 8:23 p.m.

Shifting Shadows to get out your bombs easier? And then maybe some Anger to give your things haste for the extra mana.

Nice deck! I've always struggled playing against mono red. Never seen it in commander though.

I think you should consider adding Prowler's Helm. It will pretty well guarantee damage by whatever it is attached to. A basic control method that can put you way ahead is Ember Swallower. Since you're getting free land every turn you don't need to worry about losing 3 permanent lands, but your opponent will be at an immediate disadvantage.

Also, I would consider putting Price of Progress in the main deck instead of the sideboard.

Now for the requested sideboard help.

Probably your sideboard should either give more options in line with the main theme of the deck or give options to combat the main weaknesses that come up during play.

Some options for following the main theme: Lava Axe, Artillerize, and Earthquake.

Now I'm not entirely sure what your main weaknesses are, but with some gameplay you should be able to figure it out and sideboard cards that would be effective combatants against it.

Giving your creatures "protection from Red" wont save them from Pyrohemia or other spells like it that are wide sweeping. Pro red only protects things that 'target' like Lightning Bolt. But I love the deck and hope we keep getting more strong and unique mono-red commanders.

February 20, 2018 2:52 p.m.

Caerwyn says... #25

Grahamatica

You are incorrect. Protection from Red will prevent damage from Pyrohemia.

Protection from Red prevents the following:

  • The protected entity from being targeted by Red sources (Rule 702.16a);
  • The protected entity from being enchanted, equipped, or fortified by Red sources (Rules 702.16b and 702.16c);
  • The protected entity from being damaged by Red sources (Rule 702.16e);
  • The protected entity from being blocked by Red sources (Rule 702.16f).

Pyrohemia is a red source. While it is not targeting the protected creature, it still cannot deal damage to a creature with Protection from red, pursuant to Rule 702.16e.

The easy way to remember this is: D.E.B.T. (Damage; Enchanting; Blocking; Targeting).
