TheRedGoat thanks for the thoughts! After some play testing, I agree with you on Jaya. I thought she'd be good but turns out you were right on all counts. I still have high hopes for Fury though!

No update yet, but for anyone interested here are some changes to look forward to!

Out: Jaya Ballard, Price of Glory, Loreseeker's Stone, Nim Deathmantle, Akroma's Memorial

All potentially on the line to make room for the testing of Treasure Nabber, Endless Atlas, Enchanter's Bane, Sunbird's Invocation.

Chandra, the Firebrand This card may be a sneaky good card for your deck. Chandra, the Firebrand + Savage Beating uses both modes. It also works well with most of your sorcery spells like Acidic Soil, Chandra's Ignition and Kaboom!.

Hey, trying this list out as it sounds like fun. I'm missing a few things though, so I went through my binder and found some maybe obscure things. What do you think of Fury of the Horde? Sometimes free combat step. And also, Godo, Bandit Warlord. Equipment tutor and extra combat step provider, kinda.

I recommend you add some artifact removal like abrade, vandalblast, by force, meltdown, etc . You will find yourself against some artifacts that you cannot come back from without removing them from time to time, and also to inhibit your opponents first few turns where they are ramping up. In addition your deck is quite slow and could use some more mana ramp like seething song, pyretic ritual, mana vault, mana crypt, fellwar stone etc..

Wow it's actually been months since I've looked at comments! My period of neglect has ended!

gdemay thanks for the suggestion! Chandra Firebrand is just okay... her +1 is near useless and her copy ability just isn't as good as a Reiterate of Fury Storm.

wrinklykiller did you ever actually try the list out? Curious about your experiences. Fury of the Horde is okay, I usually find this deck is too bare-boned to exile two cards from my hand. Godo is awesome but just not really going with my gameplan. Thanks for the comment!

shadowmage artifacts aren't really a big deal in my small playgroup. I always pack some removal if I'm going somewhere else though. This deck regularly gets turn 7-8 wins and can occasionally win on turn 4, so calling it "quite slow" is inaccurate :)

This deck is probably the 2nd fastest deck in my play group, so any faster and it might become hated, which is not what this deck needs politically. That said I am did break down and buy a Mana Vault recently and it'll probably find it's way in here. Thanks for the comments!

i've been wondering, Would Experimental Frenzy do any good? Been pondering it in my own build, since it is the kind of nieche card-draw we mono-red players are looking for. Haven't been able to try it myself either, but it looks pretty good, especially late-game, when the deck can get low on gas.

I'm also trying out Risk Factor , Thoughts? It seems pretty solid, better then Browbeat from my experience since Risk Factor is targeted (thus can be used more politically), and has jump-start. Generally i tend to only cast it with neheb out though, otherwise it's difficult to get solid value out of it.

Also, i'm missing Gamble in your list, is there a reason it's not here?

TrueLycan I'd say no on experimental frenzy. Hit a land(or 2 if you haven’t played a land) and you’re done for the turn :(

I like risk factor, but I feel like I’d only ever want the card draw, and the would never happen unless neheb was out and it’s late enough in the game that 4 or 8 damage becomes scary. Might still be worth trying out.

The lack of Gamble comes from a personal dislike for it, call it an “anti-pet card” if you will. I guess I’ve been screwed over mornethat I’ve been helped by it haha! Also I dislike tutors in general; it’s just part of my personal deck building philosophy that I won’t bore you with now :)

I did get to try it out, but not as much as I'd like. Busy, busy, busy... The few games I have had have been hit or miss. While people don't expect the punishment neheb can deal out, once they know, you (and him) become targets. I've been able to crush the table a few times, make a draw here and there, and lost a few. I've also changed quite a few things from other neheb player's suggestions.

Stuffy Doll to hate a specific player, Combustible Gearhulk big guy with draw or damage, Fire Servant more ouch, Thermo-Alchemist Not sure what to think yet, seems decent, Insult quick doubling damage and some prevention prevention, Magebane Armor makes neheb a bigger tank and avoids your own hate-everything spells, Doubling Cube redonk. I had 100+ mana with it out, Caged Sun eh, chopping block. Kinda helpful but also expensive. Flamekin Village and Hanweir Battlements haste in a pinch, since I can't afford the crazy haste land from kamigawa, Smoldering Crater and some other cyclers for helpful draws later on in the game.

I ended up not using godo or the other card, since I came to the same conclusions you did with them. I also dropped aggravated assault after I hit a table with infinite neheb turns and felt yucky afterwards, haha. All in all, it's been very fun, and I'm still eager for lots more testing when the time of year where everyone isn't busy rolls around again. I also made your firesong and sunspeaker deck but have had zero plays with real people yet, so there's something to look forward to as well. Thanks for responding and I hope to see some update love for these decks in the future with new sets. /wall of text

I haven't read through this deck yet. But I'm upvoting this deck just for it's name. With a name like that I already know it's awesome.

wrinklykiller thanks for responding! All of those are decent cards I've considered but didn't make the cut, glad you had some success with them! Hope to hear more of your play experiences as time goes on, maybe I can learn something from ya! :)

Weekend_Magic_NC hey, I'll take it haha! Hope you can come back and look at the deck though! Always appreciate more sets of eyes on my pride and joy :)

Suns_Champion I actually had a chance to play against real people over the weekend and had good results. The highlight was wiping the life totals of 3 other people, including a cocky lifegain player using jaya's immolating inferno and a reiterate with fire servant out. His 90 life didn't stand a chance. feelsgoodman.jpg I lost another game against a savage pillowfort deck because I didn't save mana to equip swiftfoot boots. It's very important to protect him, all the time, it turns out.

wrinklykiller yeah Neheb is certainly the linchpin of the deck. With all the protection I pack it occasionally looks like a voltron deck haha! Looking forward to continued feedback and ideas!

Thoughts on the the new swords from modern horizons?

I feel like sinew and steel could be pretty good since Neheb does most of the swinging to generate mana and you get the plus of hitting walkers or artifacts.

My my, it has been a while!

TabulaRasalghul niether of the new swords looked good for me. I dislike protection from red because then I cant hit Neheb with a Seize the Day.

Zappter right here!

this list is sick. why no land destruction though? my buddy runs a nehab build similar to this but with a lot of MLD and Blood Moon effects. its savage af. our playgroup is pretty spikey though; I know a lot of people get pretty pissy when their lands are blown up for some reason :D

September 24, 2019 2:09 p.m.

Suns_Champion says... #19

scrotality thanks! If you like the deck I’d appreciate an upvote if you haven’t already ;)

I guess land destruction was never my thing, though it seems like a good win con for Neheb. The problems I see with land destruction are a) everyone having bigger creatures that Neheb, negating my advantage and b) Neheb being blown up in response.

I have a question about a certain combo in this deck. Say you have Repercussion out, and you play Blasphemous Act. It kills two creatures that any given player controls theoretically. Would that player take 13 damage or 26 damage?

Suns_Champion says... #24

Nevinyrral_Mayor_of_Urborg he and a ton of other changes will be in here soon! Have to finish testing before updating.

ScionsStillLive Bothe that Chandra and Power Surge are out because they don't do damage on my turn, which is when I need stuff to happen. This is not a pressure deck, though I can see versions of Neheb pressure being good. Just not for me. Thanks for the comment.

Dothurnaax That player who controls two creatures would take 26. That's the power of repurcussion. Now Imagine a token deck with 10 tokens and I cast Flamebreak . That's 30 to the face along with having their board destroyed. Thanks for the question.

Imminent changes

I will be piloting this deck at Magic Fest OKC next weekend, and will be testing out a ton of changes, so big update coming. If you'd like to check them out, you can here: AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT | Neheb II. Thanks all!

Thanks for the work you've put into your list and this page! I'd like hear your opinions on a few cards.

I have a Gauntlet of Might laying around, where would you fit that into your list?

Is Blightsteel Colossus a worthwhile pay off for big mana? I just can't help think how fun it would be to Chandra's Ignition one, but I suppose it doesn't end the game immediately on its own like an X spell does. If you're casting it off Neheb mana then a second main phase Blightsteel isn't as impressive since it can't take advantage of haste. I may have just talked myself out of the card, but I'm still interested in what you have to say.

Lastly, does this deck want a Top/Scroll Rack + Fetchland package? I've found them to be pretty useful for filtering away unwanted cards in mono red, as well as giving Valakut instant speed triggers. What has been your experience?

Thanks again!
