_"OINK RAZES BEST WITH FRIENDS"_

I've been looking at building a mono-red commander deck for quite some time, but nothing seemed to be much fun. Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs has been tinkered with, but it felt... awkward to pillow fort and play diplomat in the color known for hot-headedness and aggression.

Then this guy got printed, and it has everything I could want. It is a super-fun card, with a great theme to build around!

Why Ilharg?

I know what you're thinking. Its just a trampling red boar, that has some awkward recursion to protect itself from removal. Pretty "meh" right?

But you skipped over the most important part of it, namely the attack trigger. That's right! Ilharg, the Raze-Boar is basically a Sneak Attack on a stick, with the added bonus of not having to sacrifice the creature, but rather return it to your hand. Hello enter-the-battlefield (ETB) effects!

A built in card ramp when grouped with Solemn Simulacrum ? You got it!

Permanent destruction when used with Meteor Golem ? Check and double-check!

Cheating out powerful ETB-effects and then returning them to hand, so you can use them again ? This is just bonkers fun!

General Strategy

The deck is pretty much exclusively built around abusing the attack trigger from Ilharg. Utilize your Hog's creature sneak by dropping creatures with ETB shenanigans in the red zone to cause a big hassle for your opponents.

Sneak Attack is a potential enabler for those times when the boar is in your deck or command zone.

The added pseudo-indestructible nature of Piglets big brother means that the only thing to fear is deck-shuffling effects! No more hiding in fear due to a potential Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares ending the Rage-party prematurely!

You can also use Feldon of the Third Path for even more ETB triggers should any of your creatures end up in the graveyard.

Combos and Interactions

• Ilharg, the Raze-Boar + Any ETB creature effects = The main gameplan of the deck! Hilarity ensures!

• Sneak Attack Or Ilharg, the Raze-Boar + Conjurer's Closet = Sneak those creatures into play, and stack the closet trigger before the return/sacrifice trigger in order to keep the guy around forever! clever right?

• Sneak Attack Or Ilharg, the Raze-Boar + Sundial of the Infinite = Similar to the one above, sneak out your creatures and end the turn with the sundial before the end step trigger resolves to keep you creatures in play. Man am I smart or what?

• Feldon of the Third Path + Sundial of the Infinite = Someone killed your creatures once they hit their forever-home on the battlefield? Don't worry, Just let the artificier create a carbon-copy of it, and end the turn before he destroys all the fun.

• Ilharg, the Raze-Boar + Worldgorger Dragon = A 7/7 flier that lets all your creatures trigger their ETB - abilities again, and you get back all your lands untapped? Welcome to the Crew!

• Ilharg, the Raze-Boar + Extra attack turns, such as World at War = More Ilharg triggers! perfect!

• Conjurer's Closet + Any ETB creature, such as Combustible Gearhulk = Is the creature stuck on the battlefield? Don't worry! With the closet, you'll be able to keep abusing their ETB effects!

Another cute interaction: Conjurer's Closet + Combat Celebrant = Exert your guy and blink it with the closet to effectively "cure" the celebrant from it's exerted state, letting it attack and exert the next turn again!
