Our playgroup became tired of the immense powercreep. We slowly got more and more excited to return to the early days of Magic: the Gathering.
Playing a game of EDH with a limited cardpool of the early years of MtG proved to be a truely nostalgic and unique experience. More flavour and less broken/infinite gameplays, we proudly present:

Old School '99 EDH

We follow the regular set of rules maintained by the EDH rules committee, except for a few changes based on our experiences:

  • Starting life: 30
  • No banlist: we love to see the moxen and Black Lotus!

Legal core sets: - Alpha - Beta - Unlimited - Revised - Fourth Edition - Fifth Edition - Sixth Edition

Legal expansion sets: - Arabian Nights - Antiquities - Legends - The Dark - Fallen Empires - Ice Age - Homelands - Alliances - Mirage - Visions - Weatherlight - Tempest - Stronghold - Exodus

Legal bonus sets: - Chronicles - Portal - Portal: Second Age - Portal: Three Kingdoms

Banlist:

Cards: none

We decided that we would allow any card that has been printed in one of the above sets, until it proves to heavily unbalance gameplay in our format.

Sets: Urza's Saga, Urza's Legacy, Urza's Destiny

The powercreep compared to the older sets is starting to get really steep. We felt - balance wise - that the Urza block would be too dominant for this format.

Special note; we left Mercadian Masques out as well, since it came after the Urza block and should not be allowed for obvious reasons.
