Ever consider Maralen of the Mornsong?

I am very familiar with this card, but I think that Maralen of the Mornsong is not really suitable for this deck. It is good in combinations with cards that prohibit opponents to search cards, such as Stranglehold, Aven Mindcensor. Outside of this combinations Maralen of the Mornsong can cause a lot of hate and problems to its owner.

Hey man, I LOVE your custom Oloro. Was it hand painted, or a digital alter?

April 19, 2016 3:22 p.m.

Matrixxx999 says... #6

Thanks! It was hand painted. Man, I forgot to type a link to the website of the artist in description section. Fixed it.

That's awesome. Do you have a high res scan? I'd like to see the detail better.

Matrixxx999 says... #8

Sure! I have made accordion in description section with high res scan of the card.

Very nice indeed. What was the inspiration for that image?

April 19, 2016 8:22 p.m.

Matrixxx999 says... #10

The inspiration (and actualy the model) for the image was Azrael, Angel of Death from Angelarium by Peter Mohrbacher. He is one of the MTG artists. When I saw his gallery on deviantart.com, I was just amazed at how beautiful his work were. Here is the link to Angelarium website - www.angelarium.net/seraphim/. Enjoy :)

Decks looks really sweet! Great job! I'm just a little curious on why you run Bitterblossom and Raven Familiar ? It seems like Bitterblossom doesn't really do anything but provide blockers when you could be running more protection for combo pieces or draw power. I feel like Dark Confidant Rebuff the Wicked Force of Will or Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip would all be better or more impactful cards.

I read your edit about the familiar but I only see necromancy/reanimate as relevant synergy, unless I missed something.

  • Bitterblossom is one of the candidates for replacement, especialy after i cut Jace and Tezzeret, but I am stil thinking about it. It provided the necessary blockers, and sac fodder for cards like Diabolic Intent, Phyrexian Altar, Phyrexian Tower. It is utility spell, it does nothing for winning the game. Oh, it actualy can help to circumvent stax and sacrifise effects like Smokestack, Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre etc. But you pointed it right, this card I'm thinking to replace...
  • Raven Familiar is just a very good card, here is the combinations for him - Infinite mana engine 1,3,5 or 7 from above + Raven Familiar (its in the description section). And he is pretty good outside of combinations, he is a sac fodder, a card advantage, and can be reused by reanimation spells from graveyard ("Echo"!).
  • Rebuff the Wicked/Turn Aside, are not bad protective spells, but I prefer spells that counter any spell. So if I wold add a counterspell, it would be something like - Delay, Counterspell, or maybe Force of Will that you mentioned.
  • Force of Will - I use this card mainly in mono-color, or two-colored decks, the possibility of a lack of blue card in hand stops me from using it in this deck, so I never tried it. Thanks for this suggestion, i'll try and test it.
  • Dark Confidant - I considered it before, but I was afraid of excessive life drain (the deck runs a lot of spells and lands that drain life), with ACMC 2.91 it still could hurt very much even with Oloro. But I am a big fan of suicide dark magic ;), and I like Dark Confidant a lot. I'll try it (maybe even instead of Bitterblossom)
  • I have never considered Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip, it is a great card. Now I have to think what to cut for it.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

Leyline of Anticipation.

In my only test of the deck, I assembled a turn 5 Omniscience with two more Academy Rector triggers. The first grab was obviously Necropotence, but I found myself waiting an entire turn before anything more could be done. I am not sure what would be taken out, but it seems like it could be good to go off on your opponent's upkeep as opposed to your next turn.

Again, I'm not sure where it would go or if it's worth having, but Tamiyo could be useful if games go long both for massive value, and to bolt everyone to death with a single card if Omniscience is in play.

First of all, thanks for taking your time and testing the deck! Leyline was in the deck from the beginning. And now it is in the maybeboard. The problem is that this card was realy useful only few times, mostly it was almost dead draw (especially considering the amount of instants). I know how powerful this card can be, but still have doubts about it in this particular build.

As for the Necropotence, there are some tricks with it, as far as I know, you stil can play your instants in your end step, so if you pay for example 30 life, put 30 cards in your hand and then destroy or exile Necropotence on instant speed, you will discard a lot of cards that you can reuse or use from the graveyard.

This deck have a lot of such tricks and shenanigans. And if you know how to pilot this deck, you'll get a lot of fun with it.

I don't really understand how you got two triggers from Rector, cuz you have to Exile it

I'll try to test Tamio. Thanks for your suggestions

My bad about the Rector. Missed that in its text. I did, however, find that there were more tutors than things to be tutored after much drawing.

What do you think of Library of Leng and Telepathy? I find them quite useful in my much more casual commander build, effectively dodging discard and hand size using the Library, and anticipating nearly all of my opponents' moves with Telepathy.

Matrixxx999 says... #16

Telepathy is a very good card, I used it in my Arcum deck. I think that true power of this card is not in spying on opponents hands, it is a very powerful political tool. It was hilarious to see how my opponents attacked each other, when they saw the potential danger in someones hand. I tested this card in this deck too. In most cases, I didn't want to play this card, but I didn't tested it a lot, so maybe it deserves more testing. I think that when I play with this deck, I rely more on solid cards - which are tutors, combo pieces or threats and answers.

Library of Leng could be good for its maximum hand size ability, but I have Reliquary Tower for that purpose.

Thanks again for all your suggestions!

May 11, 2016 10:30 p.m.

Indeed. I am glad they are worth considering! I should be coming by a lot of free time in the near future, so I should be able to provide more constructive and complete suggestions.

I am looking for similar random suggestions in my own deck, if you are interested. I am on much more of a budget, but you seem to have tested cards that I would try out.

Hey, I don't want to rain on your parade, but I wanted to mention that all the customizations you've made to the style of your page here REALLY bogs down my browser, to the point where the deck is almost unnavigable. As I said before, I love the deck otherwise.

On the contrary, very good that you pointed it out. I tried to test the design on different browsers and I have not seen to many problems. But I suspected that everything works well only on my side. Now, I think I'll shut off a large part of the design or even all of it. Thanks again!

My pleasure then. In its current state, it's zippy as all get out

Hi!

Never think add Rune-Scarred Demon?

he can make cool shenanigans with:

from hand:

Flash one more target for flash (2 cmc tutor on instant speed!)

Show and Tell i think your deck have only several good targets exept of Omniscience so he can be one of them

field:

Deadeye Navigator (2 cmc tutor on the field)

Ghostly Flicker (3 cmc tutor)

Eldrazi Displacer 3 (cmc tutor)

With 5 and 7 infinity mana combinations you can tutor all your deck =)

grave:

Reanimate 1 cmc tutor

Necromancy 3 cmc tutor on instant speed

Karmic Guide (5 cmc tutor)

I think there can be more other combiantions this was moust eye catching.

P.S. Pity I cant upvote it once more, great deck man! ;-)

I have considered adding Rune-Scarred Demon before, it is a very good card and it would bring a good synergy to the deck, I'll think about it! Thanks!

Also, now I think that Sidisi, Undead Vizier would be an interesting addition.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions and your kind words! :)
