Probably because 1) Mono green 2) Elves provide the mana 3) Collect Ouphe

What profet said. Plus outside of the first few turns where that early acceleration sol ring provides is fantastic, 1 green mana becomes more important to me than 2 colorless mana. And then more importantly than everything else, I can't turn a sol ring into a 100/100 with Trample, all the elves are potential game enders.

Why exactly do you run Collector Ouphe in this deck? You have mana-producing artifacts that it would shut down. I would do Karn, the Great Creator if I were you.

Probably because....

  1. It only effects 2 artifacts
  2. It is a 2 drop rather than 4 drop
  3. Can be tutored for with 4 cards in the deck
  4. More easily recurred than Karn

Although Karn is less likely to be removed, I believe the above 4 probably outweigh than that. Imagine playing collector on Turn 2 after a sol ring, crypt or any other mana producing artifact. Kamerot, let me know if I'm wrong

Profet93 nailed it on the head. Shutting my opponents artifacts is more important to me than the 2 artifacts I have being shut down. The Great Henge still gets its passive ability which is more to me anyways, the mana generation is a bonus. And Conqueror's Flail being onboard is actually a deterrent for removing the ouphe because locking opponents out of my turn usually results in a win. On a couple more notes, ouphe being a green creature instead of a colorless planeswalker makes it add to devotion, creature count for Cradle and can't be countered if Allosaurus Shepherd is on the battlefield.

Profet93 Kamerot Oh, that reasoning makes sense. I like putting lots more artifacts in my decks, and Karn is my favorite planeswalker, so I guess i'm just a little biased.

Oh I totally understand. That version of karn has been on my radar for a long time. If I ever decide for more artifact hate, I'll end up playtesting him for sure.

Been a while I haven't been keeping up with the new sets, anything tickle your fancy?

Not sure if I previously suggested but Pendelhaven is a card that might be worth it depending on how far you wanna go for combat tricks.

Profet93 good to hear from you, nothing from the new sets has made it in. I tested Threats Undetected for a few weeks and it ended up being a dud unfortunately.

As for Pendelhaven, I've tried to steer clear of things that only buff 1 creature. With kamahl as my main source of combat tricks and hoofy and finale of Devastation as my 2 backups, I dont think its warranted. But you reminding me this existed makes me want to throw it in my tahngarth deck, so thank you for the suggestion.

I've been seeing this deck pushed in the top of my screen for years now. I just have to know- how many feature tokens have you used on this thing?

January 4, 2023 1:16 p.m.

Kamerot says... #11

Goldbranner way too much, that's for sure. I've thrown this deck in the feature queue once a day almost every day for like 5'ish years.

Kamerot That's dedication! This version of a foil Kamahl that I discovered in my parents basement maybe 5 years ago was actually what got me back into magic/edh after not playing since ~2004.

That's awesome. The foiling from that era just really shines.

Nice update, I do worry about relying more about your lands in play but given your land untappers, I think it's a solid way to go. Always feels good to T1 Arbor elf into Utopia sprawl. Let us know how the update plays out, its not like they are gonna strip mine a forest with an enchantment when u have cradle and nykthos on field too.

Kamerot says... #15

That was my thought too. There are a lot more dangerous lands than 1 that can tap for 2 all the time.

Great update! Closer and closer you get to the dark side.

Inkmoth I won't ever go full time to the dark side. I like my big flashy spells too much for cedh. Lol

I LOVE this deck. Every time I play Big Green, I have anywhere from 100-200 mana on my end turn to completely destroy all three opponents at the same time. 10/10!

Man, I remember upvoting this deck forever ago; it might have still been in the low hundreds. Congratulations on the 1K milestone!
