jagcat: Thank you for the upvote and suggestions! The only reason Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle is not in my deck is because I only have 10 mountains in the deck, so it would only be relevant if I play Boundless Realms or Scapeshift. I would have to add a few mountains before I consider it.

Now Triumph of the Hordes is tempting! I have considered it before, but now it is more tempting after this week's play test... It pretty much reads "if this spell resolves, you win" in this deck! Of course this is a bit of an exaggeration, but it would make your opponents sweat bullets... Lol. The downside is that after this resolves once in my playgroup I will draw A LOT of hate in my future games.. Lol

WOW! Just 5 more votes from a primer! I need to get to work! Thank you all again for the support!

DaftVader: I'm sorry, I almost missed your comment! Young Pyromancer is great, but what would you take out???

Your giving other people lands with this but perhaps your going up against a few decks thant have 3 or more colors if that's the case then there may not be any basic lands but you have plenty of basic lands and works great with your commander and your deck. New Frontiers

griffstick: I cant say that I've seen New Frontiers before. However, I'm not a big fan of 'group hug' cards. There are few exceptions, like the 'Tempting' cards, because they help me the most.

My one suggestion is Green Sun's Zenith. The vast majority of your creatures are green, and while it is sorcery speed the utility it gives you is amazing especially in Commander.

Leyden: I agree that Green Sun's Zenith is an amazing card, I just don't know what I would take out for a creature Tutor. Also, I think I would add Tooth and Nail first because of all the ramp I have. Any suggestions on what I should remove?

Even without an elemental theme, I highly suggest Shared Animosity I've had plenty of games where I had this doubling season and Omnath and swung for lethal against the whole board. I feel you're missing two very important lands to deck Thawing Glaciers and Ghost Town are great especially when combined with Burgeoning

dcponcho: Thank you for the suggestions! Your right, Shared Animosity needs to go in the deck, but what would you take out for it?

Thawing Glaciers and Ghost Town are also going to find a home in here too, great ideas! I will try to get them from my LGS tomorrow. Thank you!

griffstick: I'll have to keep this combo in mind!

if not a basic land for Thawing Glaciers then Terramorphic Expanse. as for Shared Animosity, you could take out one of these two Exploration or Burgeoning because having two of these is redundant. that's my opinion

VexenX says... #12

griffstick: Exploration and Burgeoning do two different things for this deck, and i don't think I could take ether out. If all goes well, I should have plenty of lands to play. If Crucible of Worlds is in play it is like Christmas!

I think the two cards on the chopping block are Tempt with Vengeance and Animist's Awakening. Thoughts???

October 13, 2015 9:22 p.m.

dcponcho says... #14

I'm not a fan of Zendikar's Roll or Animist's Awakening personally. Though you run more lands than I do so it might be better in your list.

October 13, 2015 10:38 p.m.

griffstick says... #15

i look at both those cards as finishers and the only one with a weakness is Animist's Awakening after the game goes on for an hr or more. think about how many lands you have left in the deck and the chances of Animist's Awakening hitting its mark effectively. personally i love this deck and i don't see much room for improvement

griffstick and dcponcho: This is what makes building an EDH deck so challenging. There are so many great cards I would like to add to this deck, it is just hard to make the final cuts. The real question is if Animist's Awakening is elite enough to be classified a finisher. I have cast it 4-5 time so far, and it has never been very exciting, when when the 'Spell Mastery' triggers. However, I can see top decking Shared Animosity taking over the game. In retrospect, Animist's Awakening is a complete flop late game because of all the land tutoring I do.

I have my 5+ hours playtesting tomorrow at my LGS, so we will see how it goes. I will give a detailed update on what is working and what isn't. (PLEASE let me know if these detailed updates are interesting to any of you. If no one likes them I won't bother posting them each week.)

If I can find one, I plan to add Thawing Glaciers in place of Dormant Volcano tomorrow as well.

I also plan on putting Nissa's Pilgrimage back in the deck, a third Cultivate with a possible upside seems to good to pass up in this deck (I normaly get Forests anyway.)

jagcat: That is really good to hear! I have been working on the Primer all week. It is quite a bit of info, and I hope you all like it. However, I will likely need some pointers once in post it, to make it even better. This is a first for me, but I love this deck and want everyone else to enjoy it too

Game-testing Wednesday! Things went REALLY well for Omnath, Locus of Rage! I went 4-0!!! The more I play this deck the more I learn how freaken crazy it is!

I'll go into more detail!

Game One:

Versus a Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind 'draw to death' control deck and a The Mimeoplasm Eldrazi/processor deck. Got Om_rath out by turn 5 and just started dishing out tokens! They could not keep up with the overwhelming numbers. Once Parallel Lives hit the field it was pretty much game over. Ended up winning by swinging in the air thanks to Akroma's Memorial.

Game Two:

Same two guys. This time I took over the game with Primal Vigor and Warstorm Surge. The game didn't last to long.

Game Three:

These last couple game were five players, but that did not change a thing!!! Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and The Mimeoplasm stayed while Numot, the Devastator and Heartless Hidetsugu joined the party. I had a turn one Forest into Exploration into Jund Panorama into Sol Ring. I won in 5 turns, lol. It ended with a Scapeshift into Craterhoof Behemoth! Fun times!

Game Four:

Now this game was epic! The only changes in players was that the Numot, the Devastator player took out his more competitive Prossh, Skyraider of Kher deck. Needless to say, all eyes were on me at this point. Heartless Hidetsugu brought everyone's life down really low while maintaining his own life with Glacial Chasm. I was able to eventually get Crucible of Worlds, Doubling Season, Exploration, and Greater Good in play. What really won me the game was Greater Good along side Crucible of Worlds. The Prossh, Skyraider of Kher player cast his commander while Xenagos, God of Revels was in play. I just sacked two elementals to Greater Good to burn it to the ground. Then the Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind player cast Curiosity, which I responded to by burning Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind to the ground.

When it got back to my turn I cast Parallel Lives and proceeded to make 16 more tokens. I then cast Shamanic Revelation to gain life and draw up Strip Mine to deal with the Glacial Chasm. Once all barriers were out of the way I cast Hammer of Purphoros. I killed the other 3 players easily with my elemental army, and then sacked more elementals to finish off the Heartless Hidetsugu player.

Things are going really well! 4-0 is pretty sweet! The crazy thing was that all four games were finished within 3 hours! That is pretty fast if you ask me!

Please let me know what you guys think, and if you have any questions. Also, fill free to share any experiences that you all are having!

Awesome primer dude. Its great that you go through every card in the deck. Idk anything about this site and how it works, but you should see about gettting this put on the front page for a bit.

I'm very new to the format so forgive me if this sounds stupid, but I was under the impression that you could only have a 10 card SB in Commander?

jagcat: Thank you for the support! I am glad you are liking the Primer! I am going to make some formatting changes tonight, let me know what you think!

plantlord98: You are likely right, i don't play with the side board at all, they are more like cards I have been thinking about adding. I am going to make a "possible additions" section in the next couple weeks, and that will go in there. Sorry for the confusion!

Wow, this looks like a crazy deck. The second I saw new Omnath I thought he looked fun. have you seen Elemental Mastery? It makes elementals, so it might be good here. I might try and make a budget version of this :)

Lazarouslive: Now Elemental Mastery is a hard card to put my finger on... I am just going to way the pros and cons, then go from there:

Pro:

  • If this is in play with a sack-outlet things are going to get crazy pretty fast!
  • If you use the ability when someone attacks you, you can just laugh in their face. But most of the time it will just keep people from attacking you at all.
  • Most of the time this will make five 1/1 haters, that if blocked turn into lightning bolts. Pretty good for just tapping.

Cons:

  • It is an Aura.Removal is not a scarce thing, in my meta at least. I have already cast Omnath, Locus of Rage for 19 and I have only played the deck 7 times! I don't need more hate for him. Plus you should always expect to get 2-for-oned when you cast a powerful Aura on one of your creatures.

  • It EXILES the tokens at the end of the turn. If it just destroyed them this card would be fantastic.

If you are running a ton of sack-outlets then this card might be more of a fit. I might be missing something important about this card, and if that is the case, please let me know! I'm still on the fence about adding it.. and then there is the question on what i would take out for it...

How would you feel about Blasphemous Act? If you're falling behind it can help you stabilize by slowing down your opponents. If the board is stalled, you can use it to reset the board, probably killing someone in the process. If you're ahead, you can use is as basically a second combat if you feel that you have a chance of dying on the back swing.
