By the way, did we already discuss wether to implement Horn of Greed ?

Horn of Greed looks fun if you can combo it with Narset otherwise I don't want to give my opponents cards.

unwucht, sorry, I accidentally removed one of your comments. As for Horn of Greed, I don’t like that my opponents can draw off of it (as mentioned by rkjunior) and that I can’t draw off the land I fetched for or even the lands from Scapeshift.

Thoughts on Scroll Rack?

Scroll Rack is great and we can easily shuffle our library with fetch lands. As of now I don’t have a cut for it, especially since I just put in Mystical Tutor. If necessary, I’d make the cut of either Nahiri's Lithoforming, Valakut Exploration or Sphinx's Revelation. What do you think rkjunior and unwucht? Or should we just wait on it?

Scroll Rack is a great overall utility card. It might be good in this deck. Nevertheless, we have been replacing some cards that very much "felt" like this deck with better cEDH staples. Sure, this is one way to go to optimize a deck. Nevertheless, I would personally abstain from Scroll Rack and would keep cards like Nahiri's Lithoforming and Valakut Exploration in the list, because they very much synergize with our over-all game plan and probably make out a lot of the deck's "feel". Don't want to get fully esoterical on you, but you probably know what I mean ;)

unwucht, I completely understand and do agree. We have made so many adjustments lately and I know there are those who are trying their best to keep up with the build as well. I don’t want folks to buy these cards and they are cut the next time they revisit, which this happened with you and Ravages of War (keeping you in mind as well Cornelius_1216). Nahiri's Lithoforming and Valakut Exploration will stay put. I might do some testing with Scroll Rack on the side, but it won’t be anything permanent in the time being. Or rkjunior slot it in your build and give me feedback on it, if it’s a must add. I’m good with letting go of Sphinx's Revelation if it comes down to it. As for now we are riding off with what’s on the list.

By the way, how did your game night progress? Did you succeed with this deck, Starsky2814?

October 8, 2020 5:48 a.m.

I've been following this deck from almost the start, watching how it changed and I must say it is still my favourite Omnath list. I'm attempting to build a similiar but a bit more budget list.

Everyone that's worked on this deck has great points and views on why certain cards should be in and why and it's been teaching me so much on reasoning for adding cards in the grand scheme of things. (I've only been playing MTG / Commander since 2017).

So thank you to all of you for being so knowledgeable but also congrats on this deck getting to this point. It surely is a bomb.

unwucht, unfortunately, my buddies cancelled on me, so our game night has been postponed until next week.

WelshGuitarist, thanks for the +1 and for following us from the start. There are some great folks that have put a lot of time and effort in the construction of this deck. Huge shout out to rkjunior and unwucht for all their support. It’s awesome to hear that their knowledge of the game has been rubbing off on you. It sure has for me as well. Good luck on your brew! If there is anything we can help with, don’t hesitate to ask. Also, I want to post a budget build soon. So stay tuned for that update.

Looks awesome man, can't wait to hear how it does. Makes me even more eager to build by own version using the lands shell from my Chulane deck.

WelshGuitarist: motivation makes up for a lot of experience. I've only been playing commander since about September 2019 and I am still learning, as well. There is a ton of knowledge in this community and awesome gameplay to be found on youtube, as well (Command Zone, Commander's Quarters, Jumbo Commander, playing with power, casually competitive, only to name a few of the obvious ones).

October 8, 2020 1:03 p.m.

Starsky2814 I'm excited to hear how the game goes. I also love your game mat, where did you get it, if you don't mind me asking?

unwucht I mostly play casual and haven't had a ton of help in understanding deck building very well apart from my own play tests and builds and games and such. I watch all of those except Jumbo (I've seen a few videos) and Casually competitive (Seen nothing). I definitely try my best but sometimes I just don't think big picture when making a deck and I make it too narrow or hanky and then I find it difficult to know what to remove and why.

WelshGuitarist, I had the mat custom made through a vendor on Amazon. I just sent over the image to them and they had it printed on the mat. I can send you the image if you’d like to do the same.

Metachemist, I’m so bummed that game night got canceled. I’ve been so eager to play this deck. But I will definitely let everyone know how it does, once it gets played. Also, it would be awesome to see what you put together. Be sure to tag it on here when you finish it!

WelshGuitarist There is a few "cooking recipes" for deckbuilding. They recommended the number of lands, spot removals, wipes, etc. If you are inexperienced, stick to those recipes. Then, after some time, you will realize how those recipes fit your playgroup's meta and can adopt to that meta. (In our group we realized we tended to run too many boardwipes in our decks. So we adopted.)

WelshGuitarist I think this is no longer fully up-to-date (after some statistics grinding Josh and Jimmy no longer recommended this high an ammount of wipes) but in this episode you can find a recipe:

Considering on replacing Smokebraider with Bloom Tender.

October 10, 2020 12:49 a.m.

unwucht says... #22

Starsky2814 Bloom Tender is potentially stronger than Smokebraider when your deck is already up and running. But from my point of view, the sole puprose of Smokebraider is to be in your starting hand and enable you to cast Omnath, Locus of Creation on turn three. I doubt Bloom Tender will continuously perform in a similar way. Hence Bloom Tender would only ramp your mana when you usually already have enough mana and not in the critical starting phase during Turns 2 and 3.

October 10, 2020 6:13 a.m.

unwucht says... #23

Also, all your one-drops are green. So Bloom Tender does not even stand a chance to create two mana on turn three, as from my understanding colorless does not count towards the number of colors of mana.

October 10, 2020 6:19 a.m.

Starsky2814 says... #24

All very solid points. When I look at Bloom Tender, there is still a good possibility Omnath, Locus of Creation is cast on turn 3. As long as the that was spent on it originally can produce a different color and all the other lands for that matter. Most likely would lose landfall triggers on the turn Omnath is cast, but I’m thinking next turn and I can easily cast something like Ancient Greenwarden then get the double triggers the turn it’s cast. I’m just looking at the potential upside of after Omnath is in play, which will allow a lot of other early plays. Just an idea to toss around. Don’t get me wrong I do like what Smokebraider does for us, Bloom Tender just seems like the better overall pick.
