I also suggest getting some artifacts and enchantments that increase the amount of mana that your forests tap for such as Caged Sun and Heartbeat of Spring . This is helped me immensely with my deck (to the point where each land tapped of seven green mana). That is hard to deal with.

I think Omnath, Locus of Mana would be a better general for you.
January 25, 2012 7:03 a.m.
MattBostelaar: I have yet to actually play a match using Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger , but from playtests I think it'll be better than Azusa, Lost but Seeking . I'll be on the lookout for Omnath, Locus of Mana . I like the cost, but I'm not really sure what it means "Green mana doesn't empty from your mana pool as steps and phases end." If it doesn't empty, does it mean you can re-use the same mana in a later step? I like the lower cost of that card
user:Geoff_of_Biscuits I'm worried that my deck has too many high-mana cards. I only have 2 single mana creatures and 3 two mana creatures, so I also am trying to consider how to make the deck a little faster, particularly getting out lands. I have Sylvan Ranger , but I may also need to try to pick up Borderland Ranger . Any other suggestions in that vein?
Thanks!
I have limited cards, but hope to start working on a standard deck, too, before the next chance I get to play.

It means that you can stockpile mana from one phase to another, including your opponents phases. So if you get him out you can put 5 into your pool and end your turn. During your opponents turn you will still have 5 mana in your mana pool. Then when it's your turn you can put 5 back in and have a total of 10. To play a big fatty to kick some ass with.

MattBostelaar: oooh, I got it. It only empties when it's actually used. That makes a lot more sense than ways I was thinking of it. Thanks for the tip!

Omnath = win,
Llanowar Mentor = many llanowar elves and free discard (ok 1 green but you get the elf lol)
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary is great early ramp banned as a general

I could definitely see great things having Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary on the second turn, but he's a bit rich (showing $16) for this deck. I may look into Llanowar Mentor , just not sure how many cards I'd want to discard since I don't have many options in the way of reanimating. Thanks for the tip!

Mono green, regardless of your general is all about big ramp spells and playing huge creatures. A good portion of your spells should be mana ramp and creature search. Creatures should either help you ramp or be some crazy fattie (cue in Eldrazi). Shroud also keeps your guys safe and prevents shannigans.
Eventually swap out:Llanowar Elves forWood Elves , Sakura-Tribe Elder , or even that new moose from Dark Ascension. The elf will give you one mana, while the other cards will net you mana or come into play with a special ability. Always think 2 for 1 spells.
Cards like:Boneyard WurmCarapace Forger serve narrow purposes and you can get much greater value out ofYavimaya ElderDeadwood Treefolk
Eventually you'll want to remove any and all vanilla creatures and get cards that reward you for playing one color (Extraplanar Lens ) while punishing others for playing multiple colors (Hall of Gemstone , Primal Order ).

Boneyard Wurm & Carapace Forger are definitely two creatures where I'll upgrade when I can, neither tends to really pay off, I just happen to have most of the green creatures I own in this deck and they're better than the others.
I've played with Sakura-Tribe Elder online, and would like him (though I think snakes shouldn't have arms). I just got Hall of Gemstone yesterday, and while I like Extraplanar Lens , it's an expensive card.
Thanks for the advice:)

Just put in some new cards I got from DKA, including one of my new stars Vorapede , and the lovely Young Wolf . I have got some cool non-creature cards that are listed in my side board, but I'm trying to resist diluting the creature & land goal of the deck. All the creatures in the deck now have something special about them, nothing vanilla or useless (I hope) :-D

Here are my other suggestions that are cheap (going on magiccards prices):
==Lands==
0.10: Temple of the False God : Nets you 2 mana as long as you have five lands (won't be hard with ramp)
2.50: Strip Mine : Destroys any land on the field.
2.50: Mosswort Bridge : Nets you a free creature for playing big creatures anyway.
==Mana fixing==
0.10: Crop Rotation : Gives you any of the lands you might want.
==Removal==
0.10 Spine of Ish Sah : Destroys any permanent on the field. Eventually you will want Karn Liberated
==Card Draw==
1.00 Greater Good
4.10 Regal Force Nets you lots of cards depending on what creatures you have out.
As for finishers, a lot of people get Eldrazi (Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre or Kozilek, Butcher of Truth ), but really you can get anything that's big and annoying or even a Wurmcoil Engine . The options are limitless...

Seedborn Muse is always terrifying in an Omnath, Locus of Mana deck :D here is my decklist Omnath, locus of mana: Destroyer of worlds EDH I see you run it with more elves than I do, but Seedborn Muse is ridiculous :)

I'm glad you looked back at this deck recently! I've always liked it! A friend of mine getting into magic was thinking of building a big green EDH and I showed him this. Although, I was surprised not to see an Elderscale Wurm in there. He's great protection...
May 17, 2013 1:07 p.m.
Admittedly, I haven't actually played with it. But it seems to me that at 7 mana Elderscale Wurm
doesn't actually do that much. Creatures die easily and aren't very hard to remove or bounce. It seems like it only helps when you're on death's door.
I don't think there are many games I play where I could hold onto and wait to play it I'm almost dead. Finishing swings are often big swings, so it can be hard to know when to hit it. There's a good chance of losing him to Wheel of Fortune /Windfall effects. I bet he'd better in a Yeva, Nature's Herald deck. Of course, you can flash him in, not block, then have a big swing back. But it's dangerous to swing with him when an opponent has creatures or is playing white (Condemn /Exile ).
Although it's a little easier to remove, I think if you want this effect, Platinum Angel might be better. The wurm doesn't prevent life loss, and stops working if your life goes under 7 while he's already on the board. The angel protects you from all win-cons, not just damage.

Thanks for the suggestion, Kingkevin102 (cool name, btw), but I don't think Karametra's Acolyte would be worth it as a four-drop -- two-drop definitely, three-drop maybe. I'll think a bit about it.

Wow... I also didn't realize Gaea's Cradle got so pricy... I wish I had held on to mine now. never mind on shelling out the cash for my suggestion.

Ha, yeah. I have one I traded for about a year and a half ago, but I keep it my Rhys the Redeemed deck where it can do really absurd things. Occasionally I would pop it in here, but it doesn't make such a huge difference really. Sometimes it feels bad when everyone else keeps playing board wipes.

Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger should be your general. Check out my Green EDH deck (deck:ewwits-green)
