Omnath, the Infinite Mana

Commander / EDH*

monownz

Sideboard

This is my first real attempt at an EDH deck, that's not from one of the 2015 Commander pre-cons. I'm also still working on this.

Introduction

I've always been rather partial to green decks - there's something about ramping up and swinging with a large steamroller across anything your opponents can do.

I picked Omnath as my commander, because he does simply that - helps your ramp AND helps with steamrolling.

How to Steamroll

The idea behind the deck is, as mentioned above, to get the largest creatures as large as possible as soon as possible. To do this, we should summon [Omnath, Locus of Mana] as early as possible, so we can keep tapping for mana and get him big. If he gets removed, no biggie - eventually we should have enough mana to keep returning him even if he's suddenly going to cost 23 mana.

There are plenty of creature cards to help with generating mana, such as Courser of Kruphix, oracle of muldaya as well as the mana dorks that litter the creature list.

The combination of Seedborn Muse, Doubling Cube, Mana Reflection, Gauntlet of Power and Caged Sun should mean we are gaining somewhere around 20+ green mana a turn, pumping our commander into obscene proportions comparable to the Moby Dick.

The salt in the wound is to pop out Argothian Elder and, during attacking phase, generate unlimited mana with Maze of Ith. I can also use it with Oran-Rief, the Vastwood to endlessly enlarge any other attacking creatures I have, ideally with trample.

I'm not so concerned with removal since I have Praetor's Counsel (Although finding it in the first place may be a bit difficult.)

Once I am raking in enough mana, I can even drop Green Sun's Zenith with a max of X = 10 to draw out every single one of my creatures in one turn, and if I have Yeva, Nature's Herald it should be game over for any number of opponents.

Thoughts

Of course these are ideal situations, and I have yet to properly playtest the deck... but the concept is there, and I'm hoping to continue tweaking this deck in the next few weeks.

Updates Add

Shoehorned in Earthcraft and Squirrel Nest for the infinite tokens. I figured that, along with Oran-Rief, the Vastwood I'll be able to get infinite tokens as well as infinite +1/+1 counters, which is a nice additional win condition to have with the deck.

Not sure if slowing down my ramp will be worth it since I took out Yavimaya Elder and Nissa's Pilgrimage, but I figure that with Omnath's unending mana should help with that.
