my opponent knows that iam going to pump him as soon as i play Wild Beastmaster but i still have chances to react on removal with Vines of Vastwood and Ranger's Guile because it's instant speed.
Those 2 would definitely fit better however there is almost nothing to take out instead of Rancor and/or Wild Defiance ... but i really started to love Wild Defiance as a second win-con.
Although you must know i was running 4 instances of Rancor and already ditched 2 cause they do not work with Wild Defiance same for Equipments, that's the reason i'm trying to keep the number of enchantments and equipments as low as possible.
i'm grateful for the suggestions, anyways check my maybeboard, i already thought about Swiftfoot Boots but they did not found their way into the deck.
Right now, i'm quite fine with the state of the deck and card's really need to kick ass and be an obvious improvement to get chances to be considered for the deck.
thanks anyways :)

hey like the deck its kinda like the standard one i have done (rapes ) i suggest some Strangleroot Geist as its undying is a good answer to board wipes :3 also some experimented ones for anti board wipe .

i really dont like Strangleroot Geist here because i can't play it for free with Burning-Tree Emissary although i know it's a great card and i would definitely run it if there was the synergy between those two, sadly it isn't..
And there is actually no creature beside Burning-Tree Emissary that would make my Experiment One evolve, resulting in a 2/2 at it's best which would die anyways if i'd remove 2 counters to regenerate this one. :(

How about Vexing Shusher to help get Wild Beastmaster out against control?

June 18, 2013 12:17 p.m.

Aikola says... #6

The more I look at this deck the more I love it, I will be doing a similar version, maybe R/G. Also how about Birds of Paradise instead of Arbor Elf as it would give more evasion.

Vexing Shusher is something i need to playtest first but this card looks pretty decent and is probably getting some space in here.
And Birds of Paradise is great aswell, evasion makes them so much more usefull but now i also consider to pick Noble Hierarch although yet my budget doesn't allow me to pick this one up :D
thanks for the suggestions!

What if instead of 4x Signal Pest , you got yourself 4x Glistener Elf for a 10 power infect must be blocked creature?

June 20, 2013 3:39 a.m.

k1rbz says... #9

i thought about that but first i lose some evasion and if i happen to draw Glistener Elf solely it's gonna be hard to win

I kept testing this deck yesterday, and I found it very unreliable, almost lika combo deck but based purely on chance.

Thing is, if I kept a hand with Wild Beastmaster but without Signal Pest or Ornithopter , it's a dead hand. Same thing with only Birds of Paradise and no Wild Beastmaster .

My winning average was ok, but I had so many games where I couldn't do much because I had 3 Ornithopter and 2 Birds of Paradise out with nothing else hahaha

I would cut Revenge of the Hunted and Wild Defiance , they are both rather clunky and slow.

Aikola says... #12

balangaz, Biomass Mutation or Overrun might help in this situation but unfortunatley they are late game options.

k1rbz says... #13

@ Blakkhand Revenge of the Hunted and Wild Defiance are actually my other win cons, if i happen to not draw the Wild Beastmaster
..So balangaz & Aikola what do you think shall i swap around to make this deck more reliable then?

budget modern deck +1I built a standard deck which is very similar to your deck. It is R/G gruul deck and it also uses the advantage of wildbeast master to claim a turn 3/4 win alot. I brought my deck to the local store FNM to play modern. I'm surprised that a standard deck did so well in modern format. I'm sure that this build should perform well in modern. Thanks for the idea of Vines of Vastwood. btw, ur play example of turn 3 kill requires those 9 cards combo together and you only have 9-10 cards in turn 3 to play in total. The probability of drawing that exact same hands in 3 turns is really really small. Instead, my standard deck doesn't have Ornithopter / Signal Pest but I have experiment one, burning tree, flinthoof boar. It helps to maintain early pressure even without wildbeast master.

I have 3 current builds with your main shell that I am testing at the moment.

Pump, Pump, Pump it up!

Beastmaster Go!

Wild Beastmaster V3

I think Overwhelming Stampede might be another option to the beastmaster, I know the Giant Growth can be better but I only made this up to test them out.

@ cyrilpang thank you, glad you like the idea of Vines of Vastwood , it's a truly amazing card! Furthermore i do know that the play example doesn't happen that often but it's just an example to show what this deck can actually do and even if you lack one Forest or a zero drop you can still hit for lethal damage by turn 3.
so this is just an example, the chances for turn 3 wins are in fact a little bit higher ;)
I'm quite aware of those R/G beastmaster decks and i actually like those but i tried to keep it monocolor and i can prolly do that in modern. :)

@ Aikola i see there is alot of different ways to go and i also tried alot of things but i'm quite unsure what's the best to go.. i see the potentially strength of Overwhelming Stampede but if i have it on my starting hand or if i draw it during the very first upkeeps, it's a waste.. that's why i'm running a few Revenge of the Hunted , on starting hand it's a waste but if drawn during the very first rounds it kicks ass.

this all leads to the point, the deck is not finished yet, so i'm going back to testing around.

Reliability is hard when the deck revolves around a single card, and even harder when your goal is to KO the opponent by turn 3. Running a couple/single copy of Wolfir Silverheart , Overwhelming Stampede //Overrun or Biomass Mutation might help late game.

Among the options above I belive that Biomass Mutation is the best as turning all those birds and pests in 3/3s using the same mana one would use with Overwhelming Stampede //Overrun is best, specially with a Wild Beastmaster out.

I would ditch Wild Defiance for them because it's the least helpful card IMO, specially if the plan is to use it as extra-pump on evasion critters.

@ balangaz hm the hardest decision is actually to choose cards to drop.. at the very moment i'm deciding whether to drop a few lands and the last pieces of Groundswell because i feel very uncomfortable when not drawing a land + drawing this late with an empty hand is just slowing me down or Wild Defiance but i would rather keep Wild Defiance i don't know.. the good thing about Wild Defiance it's a strong counter against red burn decks and i need to keep this in sideboard atleast

After some playtest... theres too much land. add 1 or 2 spells and remove 1 or 2 forestsBut i liked. +1

cool deck plus 1, i have a standard deck thats based around wild beastmaster thats really good ive won alot with it. give it a look u might get some idea's. love beastmaster really fun card.

k1rbz says... #21

@ deckmonster99 thanks, i know these R/G beastmaster versions and they are great especially because they seem to win more consistently while mine is really based on a decent hand, yet trying to end games as soon as possible.

i personally don't think that Biomass Mutation is really necessary, it costs too much mana for what you are trying to do. i think that the 2 extra Rancor s will be better.

nice topdecking there, beastmaster right in time :)what do you think about it, or did u try it only a few games?

July 25, 2013 11:32 a.m.

I'd drop the wild defiances for burning tree emissaries since the emissary is much quicker. I'd also take out the revenge of the hunted because it's useless sitting in your hand, and the chance of you drawing it in the first few turns is minimal. After the first couple turns, your opponent should be dead anyway. Instead, I'd add 2 mutagenic growth. +1
