Round 1, 1-0
Played against a new player who was playing a deck of more than 60 cards. It seemed to be at least a color mirror match since all I saw him play were Plains, but he had artifact ramp like cluestones and what not. Needless to say, I beat him 2-0.
Round 2, 2-0
Played an actual mirror match. The biggest difference is that he was playing multicolored cards like Boros Reckoner, Judge's Familiar, and Dryad Militant. Cavalry Pegasus did a lot of work in the first game, making it so that he could not make any blocks, but the real MVP overall was Banisher Priest, exiling Boros Reckoners left and right. He won Game 2 because he had a steady stream of creatures plus a devoted Heliod, God of the Sun. Game 3 I mulliganed down to 5, but was able to topdeck key cards like Glare of Heresy, and Brave the Elements.
Round 3, 3-0
Played against an Esper Control deck. I really thought I was going to get stomped but thanks to Spear of Heliod and Ajani, Caller of the Pride, I was able to counteract the Jace, Architect of Thought +1 ability and take Game one. Game two was a different story, he was able to play Supreme Verdict after Supreme Verdict before swarming me with Elspeth, Sun's Champion tokens. Game three, I was able to keep Ajani, Caller of the Pride on the board long enough to make 20 Cat tokens, AND had the Rootborn Defenses in hand to save all of them from a Supreme Verdict.
Round 4, 3-1
I was already guaranteed a spot in the top 4, so I just conceded the match and went to get lunch
Top 4 Semifinals
Played against the same person as I did in Round 3, and much of the same shenanigans happened. Played smart, didn't overcommit to the board, nor did I play too many of the same creature to get 2-for-1 by Detention Sphere. Key uses of Brave the Elements helped out as well, preventing much of my creatures from being Doom Bladed. Game three my opponent mulliganed down to 4 cards, which is never fair to anyone but especially never fair to a control deck. Swarmed the field with numerous one-drops and took the match.
Top 2 Finals
Played yet another Esper Control deck, this time this deck had Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Obzedat, Ghost Council. Lost game one to Blood Baron of Vizkopa. In game two i just mounted too much of an offense for him to handle. Game three, i was partly lucky in his whiffs with Jace, Architect of Thought and the fact that he had no Supreme Verdict.
