This is a control deck that I built using the cards I own. There are a lot of good cards missing, I believe. Things like planeswalkers, perhaps Liliana of the Veil or Teferi, Temporal Pilgrim, right now I'm running the one Mordenkainen I have, which is still a pretty good card, in my opinion, just not as good as Teferi would be, considering we're also running two Phyrexian Arena.
Nonetheless, the deck runs remarkably smoothly for BO1, it runs a lot of target removal like Cut Down, Go for the Throat and The End and still has a couple of really good staple-cards in mono-black like Sheoldred, the Apocalypse which is famous for running away with the game on its own if left unanswered, and Phyrexian Arena which I shouldn't have to explain why it's good. We're also running the enchantment version of Sheoldred

, seeing as we're running some discard in the form of Thought Erasure (that I'd probably like to replace with Thoughtseize which seems to be strictly better in almost every scenario) and milling effects like Thief of Sanity and Restless Reef. I'm considering running Virtue of Persistence which I own two copies of, but I'm not sure if the effect isn't a bit too slow to really help me out, although the lifegain is always appreciated against mono red.
Where the deck kinda falls apart, in my opinion, is the lack of planeswalker support and board wipes, I'm only running one copy of Blood on the Snow mainly because it's the only one I own. I'm also considering getting a Mirrex, which is a staple for control. That way, I'll probably get around to removing the Thief of Sanity and Sheoldred
to fully commit to the control aspect of the deck.
Then again, I am no master at MTG, so if any of you guys think of better suggestions for Explorer, I'm open to conversation.
