Run Clout of the Dominus instead of Robe of Mirrors!
It allows the Duskmantle Guildmage to survive a Pyroclasm :D :D

Nef
Nice card. I'll keep the robes for now, and add the clouts to my acquire list for this deck. Keep the good stuff coming, friend!

Nice deck! A bit too expensive for my tastes (I've never owned a deck that cost more than $50, hah), but it gets a +1 from me anyway. Not often that I see an infinite combo deck that actually works this well.

ellie-is,
Thanks for the compliment!
Did you see the budget version @ the bottom of the page?

Check out my other competitive deck, Steamblast, if you liked this one. ;-)

Thanks again!

Bump in the Night instead of Gut Shot maybe?

thegoblinkingdrummer,
Gut Shot is a free trigger that I can use turn 4 when all of my mana is tapped. Bump in the Night is not a viable wincon and is too expensive.

Is the budget version good for FNM, or should I add to it? It's only $25 on TCGplayer.

mario0102,
The budget version is pretty reliable but a bit slower mainly because it doesn't run the fetch, /pain lands. Duress usually takes care of what Thoughtseize does anyway (removing removal spells). It should do well, but I won't stand to say it's a guarantee.
Good luck though and give me feedback on how it does!

I freaking love this deck.

It is simply amazing, going to try and get it as soon as I can, but as we all know the fetch/pain lands are expensive. I see it tough as an investment becouse they can be used in several other decks.

Love it keep it up +1 from me, I do have a question tou, how good is Annul compared to like Mana Leak or something similuar. I mean can u explane why its good, kinda new to the competetive gaming.

Blackwolfie,
Thanks for the upvote, always appreciated!

Annul is a hard counter, but a bit specific. Its "good" in this deck because, this deck relies on 2 cards to get the job done; and thos cards need to be able to do their job. For example, Pithing Needle is a widely used card. It it can stop Duskmantle Guildmage dead if I don't have a way to remove it from the battlefield. So, I just never let it hit the battlefield. This also works against other anti-mill cards: Wheel of Sun and Moon and Phyrexian Revoker. Both less popular in modern, still as effective at shutting me.down.

Mana Leak is a good counter early game that isn't limited to spell type. Problem is, if the game becomes a power battle running into turn 6+, mana leak becomes less of a threat. Game changers don't have to cost any mana. keeping 3 mana open all the time is a challenge too sometimes.

No card is "good" or "bad" standing alone. A card is only as effective as the cards and boardstate around it, allow it to be.

That being said, I think that it's fair to say Mana Leak is a fair MB substitute for Annul in a tourney. Annul is more of a sideboard card.

Cheers!

Hey Surgeon, I'm fairly new to mtg but have experience in other TCGs, I wanted to discuss some things at length with you....would you mind contacting me/chatting sometime?

Wow, this looks a great deck! I hope to build it when I get more money.

Love the deck, but I don't think I like Robe of Mirrors. You want to cast protection in response to their removal, not the other way around. I'd be tempted to play the other two Apostle's Blessing instead in the mainboard; they're one-shots, but you don't need the guildmage to live that long in order to activate the combo. Nevertheless an awesome idea, +1 from me!

@brother1- I never did like the way Robe felt in the deck; though cheap, it's not the deck's style.

I'll side board some Surgical Extractions in place of the MB'ed Apostle's Blessing.

Thanks for the upvote!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm not mistaken, you could kill up to five people on turn four if you have all of the Gut Shots in hand. Love the deck +1.

TheSurgeon says... #23

@lucal13- I won't correct you, as you are right.

The description was merely inended to highlight some of the different wincons in the deck. As good as killing 5 opponents sounds, it is much more likely to happen with only one Shot in hand.

Thanks for the upvote! Always appreciated!

What decks do you usually play against? I.e what decks does this do well against/bad against?

I've started building this, I currently run

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/slow-but-fatal-lobotomy/

I'm worried about the matchup against zoo, as I find my partners RW allies almost unbeatable and it's not as robust.

I know I could probably work on my play a lot, and think I'll improve the deck over time, but think switching the distress out for thoughtseize and IoK will help. Is there a reason you don't run IoK? Tempted to try to run playsets of both.

Nice job on the deck, just what I was looking for, can't wait to take it to FNM.
