The other card from the newest sets that I think may make the list other than ToolmasterOfBrainerd's pick would be Drannith Magistrate. It is bad in the mirror, however hits commanders, kess, snapcaster, yawgmoth's will, underworld breach, urza, praetor's grasp, dread return, isochron scepter, and more xD

Also, sorry for the double post, but I forgot Cascade and Food chain and Golos too xD, and though I don't know if it is worth it or not, I do think it is such a strong card that it should be maybeboarded

Both are good cards and can be part of the last few cards used to fill out the core.

I'd put the counterspell on higher priority than the hate piece.

AlwaysSleepy Hey, I've been meaning to ask, in a blind metagame, what cards would you fill the rest of the deck with? I am looking at Spell Pierce, Fierce Guardianship, and maybe Trickbind, Angel's Grace, Stifle, and I've been adding a value piece, often Notion Thief, but perhaps Drannith Magistrate will take that role.

I've seen many other well tested lists, I haven't loved Hermit Druid or really heavy Ad Nauseam lists, but I do like some mirror breaking lists in my meta, but for a blind one what do you like?

SynergyBuild

Just my preferences for blind meta, but I finished the core with:

Necropotence

Smothering Tithe

Enlightened Tutor

Delay

Reap

and Cyclonic Rift

Note I don't play Wild Growth because I've never been that big on it. So I got that 6th slot. I wanted to pick cards with high singular impact - the deck is already incredibly fast and some longer term options which don't need any additional parts were what I wanted.

AlwaysSleepy I do agree that Wild Growth is one of the most medium ramp spells in the list, Arbor Elf has burned me more though. I've never tested Reap in my gameplay, it just hasn't spoken to me xD, but do you think you wanted a Fierce Guardianship or Drannith Magistrate over any of those six slots?

SynergyBuild

Yeah I would likely put it in over Delay to start (re: Guardianship). I hadn't updated to new cards yet.

Drannith, not unless I'm taxed into hate.

I was lukewarm on wild growth too. It’s been okay for me in testing. Worst downside is it adds to a dockside

+1 for Flash ban.

I think the Hermit Druid mill-your-whole-deck combo should be in here. (Mill whole deck including Narcomoeba, then unearth Fatestitcher. Then flashback Dread Return and sac Hermit Druid, Narcomoeba, and Fatestitcher, reanimating Thassa's Oracle into an empty library for the win.)

_qwaserdf says... #11

OK if not, it does take up a lot of space/slots in the deck.

April 10, 2020 2:04 p.m.

_qwaserdf I play it but without Naromoeba or Fatestitcher. I just rely on having mana dorks and/or commanders to sac.

It also works to tutor or draw Thassa's Oracle and cast it directly.

Yeah, but dropping the island makes Assassin's Trophy, Blood Moon, and Back to Basics are all really hurtful.

You basically hit it spot on with the second conclusion.

It's too many slots to be a main combo and doesn't offer much over the other lines currently in the list.

Granted it's a speedy pile, but it is hurt by more hate than the current piles are.

My thought is the deck is not starved for U or G cards. Spotting those is viable, but not necessary when a single finale of devastation can do the essential function in enough scenarios.

April 11, 2020 3:32 a.m.

tarkington says... #16

_qwaserdf that package is strong. And what I didn’t admit before is that reanimating the Oracle is, in fact, only one of the essential functions. With consultation and tainted pact usually at the ready, finale has been sufficient. Activating the hermit and unearthing fatesticher is four less mana however. I currently play an island, but it’s even more medium, and I never seem to have it (or appropriate counter) for blood moon anyway.

Is either Narcamoeba or fatestitcher extraneous? Like, what are the odds there is a Tymna or a dork?

I know it isn't the best tutor, but I can see Sylvan Tutor being in this deck to fetch up something like Hulk. Even though it is nowhere near the power level of the instant-speed Worldly Tutor, I still think it would make for a more consistent flash hulk win. Also, do any of you guys remember the weird days of Flash Rector? (Flash with Academy Rector)

Oh, yeah and also how would the new card Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy do in this deck? It does go infinite with Basalt Monolith, and it works really well with all the mana dorks in this deck. Is also a secondary outlet for infinite mana along with Thrasios, Triton Hero if he is constantly being counterspelled or destroyed.

enpc says... #20

_qwaserdf: I think the discussion around Sylvan Tutor has come up before and the response was that it's just too slow for the deck. And at sorcery speed and top of library, it telegraphs your play too much.

Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy could probably go into an infinite mana combo Thrasios/Tymna list, but this one is designed around Thassa's Oracle and as such has ditched all of the infinite mana packages. But yes, you could use him to help break parity with mana dorks and Dramatic Reversal/Isochron Scepter. Just a quick point - if you have infinite mana, it doesn't matter how many times Thrasios has been removed, you have infinite mana to cast him.

@enpc: Thank you for the clarification!

I am just really used to playing with my infinite mana TNT list, and I saw this list as a good spot to get some upgrade ideas, and did not see it as more of an oracle build...

Thanks again!
