Orvar, but More-var!

Note: This deck is still a work in progress, it is nowhere near perfect.

I absolutely love Orvar, the All-Form’s style of deck, cantrips that target creatures you control to create copies. It’s a ton of my favorite deck strategies combined into one. However, I felt that mono blue severely limited his options and made every game play out nearly identically, with mono blue combo. So I set out to create a Simic deck for coiling oracle and risen reef, as well as some token doublers. But then I realized how potent white would be here, with Feather, the Redeemed, Mavinda, Students' Advocate, and Kykar, Wind's Fury (though 2 of these didn’t make the final cut). Soon enough I had a plan for a 5 color Orvar.

This deck is like a puzzle, and you have to figure out how the pieces are together. Casting General Tazri will allow you to tutor for Orvar and put him into your hand. From here you have to play defensively, because people will know what’s about to happen. Then, play Orvar, and cantrip away on your creatures to create copies!

Keep in mind that Orvar allows you to copy any permanent you control, including things like your token doublers or sol ring.

In the early game, ramp with mana dorks and create copies of Coiling Oracle and Risen Reef. We can also set up some nice draw engines with Risen Reef, Generous Patron, Mulldrifter, and Archmage Emeritus. (Pro tip, you can respond to the sacrifice part of evoke on Mulldrifter to create a copy before it dies). Then, we want to either combo off, burn our opponents out, or swing with a ton of tokens!

This deck has a few combos that can work both with and without Orvar (O) being present. Displacer Kitten (DK) and Vesuvan Duplimancy (VD) can usually replace him in case you cannot get him back to the battlefield.

O/DK/VD + Whim of Volrath + Dockside Extortionist/ Peregrine Drake: Infinite mana, ETB, LTB, Magecraft. With Orvar or substitutes on the field, cast Whim of Volrath targeting your mana producer to create a copy of it, and pay the buyback cost. A copy of the mana producer will be created, rewarding you with at least 3 mana so you can cast it again and pay the buyback. Repeat.

O + Anointed Procession/ Parallel Lives + Any cantrip that can target a permanent + Another cantrip or Kokusho, the Evening Star: (near) infinite tokens. With Orvar out, casting a cantrip that can target any permanent lets you target your token doubler, making two copies of the token doubler for 3 total. If you cantrip Kokusho, you will make 8 copies that will all die to the legend rule, draining for 40. Cast another cantrip targeting a token doubler and you will have 11 total. If you cantrip any other creature, you will make 2048 copies.

O/VD + Eternal Witness + 2 cantrips: Infinite ETB, Magecraft. With a cantrip in your graveyard, you can cast a cantrip targeting E-wit to return it to hand. Then the cantrip you just casted goes to the graveyard. You can repeat this to basically trade the places of the two cantrips between hand and graveyard. This can draw you a ton of cards and go infinite if you have an infinite mana outlet, such as this + a displacer kitten and peregrine drake or dockside. You will also create many E-wit tokens.

O + Whim of volrath + Sol ring: Not technically infinite but very potent. Create a number of sol rings equal to the number of blue you can produce. Cast whim of volrath on a sol ring to create a copy of it and pay the buyback. The new copy of the sol ring can pay for the buyback cost of the next cast. Excellent early game ramp.

Use all of these and one of these win outlets:

Purphoros, God of the Forge is near uninteractable and does a ton of damage. He can also be substituted with Corpse Knight. Guttersnipe only works with the instants and sorceries, but they are a part of all of the combos anyway. Many of our draw outlets also let us draw or scry until we hit one of these to win.

Since this deck seeks to do so many things, only the best cards in each category could make the cut.

Ramp:

We have a slimmed down typical ramp package, with Bloom Tender and Faeburrow Elder being the larger mana dorks and Birds of Paradise and Noble Hierarch being the smaller ones. Farhaven Elf and Wood Elves can also grab a few lands each, though there are only 3 basics in this deck for Farhaven Elf to grab. Cryptolith Rite is an underrated card and can turn all of our creatures, including the many tokens we can create, into mana dorks of any color! Coiling Oracle and Risen Reef act as both draw and ramp as well.

Draw:

A lot of our draw is going to be through our cantrips, but engines are equally important. Archmage Emeritus and Whirlwind of Thought are our triggered draw engines, and creating copies of them can result in tons of draw every time you cantrip. The same is true with Season of Growth, which both draws when we target a creature we control, and allows us to scry when a creature ETB’s under our control. Generous Patron and Mulldrifter let us draw 2 when they ETB, so creating copies of these is great as well.

Removal:

Since removal doesn’t help our gameplan of comboing off, and since our deck strategy is very fragile with Orvar not going back to the command zone when he is removed, all of our removal serves some sort of dual purpose. All of them either act as recursion for Orvar or allow us to target our own permanents to create copies with removal stapled on.

Recursion:

Since Orvar doesn’t go back to the command zone, we need a few ways to recur him. The first is Graveshifter, the only other ally in the deck, which means General Tazri can fetch him. Good ol’ Eternal Witness can grab Orvar as well, and Q command can shuffle him back into the library for Tazri to fetch again or for us to draw into. We also have some recursion for our instants and sorceries, in the form of Mavinda, Student’s advocate (Who is a better Kess in this deck) and Mizzix's Mastery. Should Orvar be exiled or stuck in the graveyard, he can typically be replaced with Vesuvan Duplimancy and Displacer Kitten.

Other notable bombs in the deck and tech:

Anointed Procession and Parallel lives are our token doublers, creating two tokens if we would create one. Harmonic Prodigy works the exact same way since Orvar is technically a wizard! There are also many other wizards in the deck that Harmonic Prodigy works with, so look out for that! Once we get a big field, we can drop a Second Harvest to double yet again. Saw in Half, which technically isn’t released yet but will be in Unfinity, is a great bomb in this deck. On cast, make a copy of the creature with Orvar. Then it dies and makes two more copies of it!

Purphoros is one of the main wincons with corpse knight being a worse replacement. Throw down a token doubler, infinite combo, or Avenger of Zendikar to burn everyone out. If you get enough tokens, you can just swing out. Kokusho is also very easy to drain with by copying him and having the copy die to the legend rule.

Maskwood Nexus turns all of our creatures into every creature type, meaning General Tazri can tutor for any creature card in our deck, Harmonic Prodigy doubles every trigger, and everything triggers Risen Reef.

Creating copies of Riven Reef has exponential gain, as each new one triggers all the previous ones. The first triggers once, the second triggers twice, the third three times, etc. Orvar also triggers it once.

Remember to target your doublers with cantrips if able. You will get exponential increases in tokens by targeting Anointed Procession/Parallel Lives (2x, 8x, 2048x).

There are many cards that I wanted to put in here, and it was incredibly hard to cut the deck down to 100. Here are some cards that synergize very well if you can fit them.
