Orvar, the Final-Form

Commander / EDH* Mono-Blue

Sarinar

Maybeboard

Budget clone shenanigans using either fun ETBs of my own creatures or just cloning creatures on the board and running with it.

Infinite mana combos:

This deck makes inf mana by looping instants and cloning something. Most of the time, you will have a target laying around on your board that will enable you to either win, or at least to bring immense pain to your opponents's existences. Ways to win on the same turn include:

  • A lot of the time, you will have a creature like Mulldrifter or Cloudkin Seer laying around. Clone that to draw through. If it's not that, then the likes of Archaeomancer and friends plus a cantrip instant will do the same. Loop the draw to get either Sphinx-Bone Wand or Stroke of Genius . With Sphinx-Bone Wand , cast it, keep looping and proceed to reduce the enemy life total to 0. With Stroke of Genius , you need a card like Archaeomancer on the board in order to get it back from your graveyard, but if you have that setup, you can make your opponents draw their decks empty on instant speed.

  • Master of Waves and a number of Elemental tokens on the board that are able to attack this turn. That number should be higher than the number of blockers on your opponents's boards by at least 3 for this to grant you a win on the same turn.

  • Venser, Shaper Savant / Tidespout Tyrant on the board will wipe it clean. If you have no other possibility to shoot for the win, this is the way.

Things to note:

  • If you have on your board Archaeomancer or another creature with the effect of recurring an instant or sorcery from your grave to your hand when entering the battlefield, all you need is a creature targetting cantrip on hand, and you will have yourself a nice little draw enginge running.

  • If a mean mean opponent wants to remove one of your creatures, your coolest response is to just cast an instant that targets it. This will create a clone, and it will now be safe to let the original creature be removed.

If it's not infinite mana, the wincon is either intense abuse of cloning and mean etb's, or it's amassing a considerable heap of attack power and reducing the enemy hp to 0.
