Also how about Unmake?

Believe me when I say that I love Unmake; I used to run 4-of in a Modern version of the deck! But I've come to the same conclusion here as I did there: the upside of another BW spell to trigger Nightsky Mimic is nowhere near the downside of how expensive this card is as just a creature removal! For that reason, I've chosen against it.. I appreciate the suggestion though!

Well, with the same way of thinking, you should remove: Castigate. Plus you HAVE to have at least some form of creature removal

Castigate is not quite to the same degree.. While I could play MB Duress, or MB Ostracize, Castigate has no drawback in its card-effect. While it does cost 1 more, paying 2 mana for a discard (actually exile) with no drawback (in discard selection) isn't so bad in a deck where I want to be on the aggression game 1 and do really need the BW spells. The two discard spells in my side will likely come in for Castigate in game 2 pending that I don't just stomp-face game 1. The deck is meant to make a shift from aggro-midrange to midrange-control after SB-ing, and part of that is taking out Nightsky Mimic after game 1 to allow for a toolbox of just black or just white spells that grind harder.

I nearly always suggest Ethereal Armor for Pauper decks, and this is no exception; in conjunction with Edge of the Divinity it offers +5/+5 (minimum) and first strike for 2 mana along with your creatures having lifelink they'll be easy game winners.

Ethereal Armor is surely an awesome card and can be powerful here. I actually used to run 4 of those in a modern version of the deck and it made turn 3 wins more consistent. However, I will say that the biggest problem with running lots of enchantments is that the creatures are still just as prone to removal, giving the opponent the opportunity for AT-LEAST a 2-for-1. Running just Edge of the Divinity allows me to do some setting up to more carefully craft a board state, then I can drop hopefully more than one of them on a turn I'm going to swing undoubtedly. The other issue with it is that it is a really bad draw when I don't have any creatures alive or in my hand which can happen in late game. Going from 4 to 8 Aura enchantments makes that more likely, and I want to avoid that. If I wanted really big enchanted creatures, I'd just play Aura Hexproof, which is actually almost just as good in Pauper! Thanks for the suggestion though! I really appreciate it.

The only suggestion i would make is instead of a dedicated playset of read the bones (granted it's an amazing common) i would rather try a 2/2 split of read the bones and Unmake, just a couple more spots of creature removal would be more value at times and able to dig for it is nice as well.

HaazdaGerfson says... #9

That's not a bad idea! I definitely still have my Unmake's. The Read the Bones hasn't been as impressive for me as I thought it would be. I'd be willing to cut down to 2. Thanks for the suggestion! Remember to throw up a +1 if you like the deck!

I love this deck. One of my friends runs this exact build more or less, and it is pretty brutal. Have you seen Utter End? It is like a better Unmake since it hits non-land permanents. +1 From me.

I have seen Utter End! Cool card.. but have you seen its rarity? Unfortunately, in pauper we're limited to commons only! Thanks for the suggestion though! Remember to +1 if you like the deck!

My bad! I totally missed that this is a Pauper deck. Regardless, this is an awesome deck. My friend more or less has a similar build as a Modern deck. His build is voidborn. I +1'd your deck when I first saw it since I've played against it in a sense.

I have a modern version of this deck too, and I've gotten to take it to a substantial number of tournaments actually. Here's my build: Bring Death Upon Them. Check it out!

Yeah, this deck is really awesome. Yet there's isn't a lot of value. Just great synergy for a pauper deck.

Yeah the "value" things is sorta an inside joke with my friends I play with, and value city is a reference to "Value City Furniture" lol. But yeah, it is supposed to just be a good synergy pauper deck! Throw up a +1 if you like the deck! Thanks man!

I think the name Value City Furniture is enough to make me laugh. And I'm not in inside. +1 from me!

I love the demigod aura cycle, and I would go as far as calling this an Edge of the Divinity deck. I have been trying to think of a way to break this for ages so, good on you! you beat me to it.

Thank you very much! I've never thought of it that way, but I agree! You almost could call it an "Edge of the Divinity" deck haha

I only have 1 question, does this deck win? I have been looking for a pauper deck to play and I have made my friend a deck recently but after finding out Invigorate was banned it really discouraged me from infect being a solid deck, it just seems to fall flat. I love the Orzhov and the Golgari so this deck has a large instant appeal. My LGS will start having pauper tournaments soon and I would like to be able to win, at least placing within the prize pool. Thank you for your time.

Thanks for your question! Short answer: Yes, it can. Longer answer: It's very dependent on the player (as most midrangy decks are). There are slight changes you can make in the mainboard to adjust to your local meta, and knowing when to play certain threats and hold off for removal is vital. Another huge factor to this deck is its sideboard! You have some of the most potent sideboard options available (especially in white). Often times I will board out 4 Nightsky Mimic and either 4 Castigate or 4 Beckon Apparition to board in tons of hateful sideboard control cards. This shifts the whole deck to more of a midrange-control than an aggro-midrange. One last note: CAREFUL with your Edge of the Divinity's! Against certain decks the best thing you can do is rush them onto creatures, but against others you HAVE to play around removal because a 2-for-1 it gonna be crippling if they bolt Nip Gwyllion in response to an Edge of the Divinity. In summary, yes it totally can, but just like other midrange decks with similar colors, it takes LOTS of practice to pilot it fluidly! Good luck at your LGS! Hope you can win some Pauper tourneys!

You're correct that exiling is better than destroying, but instant speed is FAR better than sorcery speed!

Have you thought about using Defiant Strike as something a little cheaper with utility? Just a suggestion. It is also a cheap trigger card.
