i had not even thought of that... i was like its a shame i don't have mass token removal now... and well turns out i do... result :) thanks :p

Is this an aggro deck because I was thinking about making an aggro orzhov deck possibly with the extort mechanic. It seems like aggro orzhov is good so is like to try it out. How would I go about changing my Orzhov control to into an aggro. Let me know if this is a good idea.

This deck could be quite good. I wonder if Child of Night would not be better than High Priest of Penance ?

For the fact its got lifelink yeah Child of Night is a decent card but high priest pf penance is one of my main cards to slow down aggro and act as removal of annoying enchantments, artifacts... it's far too good a card not to run if i'm honest... i have Tithe Drinker to fill my early lifelink role as well which with the extort is slightly better than Child of Night . Thanks for the siggestion though :)
@Samurai1... No this wouldnt be considered an aggro deck, its got a strong offence but more often than not i will sot back and just control the field... if you want to build an orzhov aggro it is possible to do using lots of tokens such as Lingering Souls and Gather the Townsfolk ... then you back them up with Blood Artist , Maw of the Obzedat and Cartel Aristocrat

If I were to make an orzhov aggro deck it would consist of a lot of token cards to help power up the other abilities?

Thats the usual idea, ozhov isnt ever going to be as strong an aggro deck as boros or rakdos if you stick with the orzhov cards there are tbh

Path of Bravery + Sanguine Bond + creatures with lifelink = aggro Orzhov

still requires a fair amount of set up, the right cards and still isnt fast enough to be considered aggro. though orzhov midrange would benefit greatly from that, but i feel you should go morglen to really harness the potential in that field.

Yeah unfortunately i'm inclined to agree with DjinnjerVitis you wont get that combo rolling until turn 5 if your lucky... you would still need some aspect of control... tbh orzhov just isnt really built for the early game, you control then you dominate..
But thats a solid combo Wargoat47 has got there... it will never be up to the pace of boros or rakdos though so you can work from there if you wanted a starting off point but bear in mind until turn 5 you will be on the back foot with an orzhov aggro... their mechanics are all about control

I might as well stick to the traditional orzhov control and just find ways to speed it up a little bit. Putting in the playset of Crypt Ghast and the Debt to the Deathless will definately help alot.
Orzhov control This is my orzhov deck now and cptjmaverick gave me some excellent tips and combos so if you have anymore you wanna add you can. I'm always open to criticism on my decks :)
cptjmaverick I'm gonna look at all suggestions you gave me and definately make some changes. I really like all the combos that you gave me. The Sanguine Bond ability, does it stack if I have 2 on the field. If I have both on the field and I gain life will my opponent lose double that life?
July 23, 2013 10:38 a.m.
Yes 2 Sanguine Bond stack, though they trigger separately, so there will be two instance of the same effect on the stack, so you extort for 3, they will lose 3 from extort, 3 from Sanguine Bond and then another 3 from the other Sanguine Bond ,
just thought i'd mention, as effects that say 'when opponent loses life' and such would trigger 3 times in an extort instance :P

Thanks. I'm still fairly new to magic so I have a lot of learning to do.

Thats why we are all here, to help and to pass on advice and ideas... by the way don't be tempted to run more than two of the Sanguine Bond otherwise you may clog your hand with cards that dont always help you... anyway make he changes on your deck Samurai1 and then i will take a look at it when i get home and see what more i can do to help you

it'll be down to who gets Archangel of Thune out first and get the effect going :p
July 23, 2013 5:41 p.m.
managed to pull an Archangel of Thune
tonight from a booster i won... just one more to go...
But i'm wondering the reasoning behind upping the Blood Baron of Vizkopa to 4?
July 23, 2013 6:11 p.m.
cptjmaverick says... #20
It's got the lifelink, its fairly low mana for its effect and its got the protection... for locking out two colours entirely Blood Baron of Vizkopa is just too good... its also one of the cards i can reduce to sideboard in others... theres just nothing else i'd rather run in my first game
And congrats on pull Archangel of Thune ... bet that brought a smile to your face :p
July 23, 2013 6:33 p.m.
those are sound reasons, though i still find 11 cards at cmc 5 a little worrying ><
Leads me to another issue i had tonight in games.... what or how do you chose what to take out/in your sideboard?
July 23, 2013 6:38 p.m.
cptjmaverick says... #22
I know its a little scary but if you stall enough early it wont matter about the higher mana costs... also thats why Crypt Ghast is there as he gives you loads of spare mana to play with...
As for what to side board in/out, i've found silence is the first thing to go against a control deck as that turn you get doesnt really benefit you so in that case i'd side boars in either Doom Blade (depending on the colour deck) and a Immortal Servitude to control the field and give me access to my graveyard if i'm loosing creatures...
Strionic Resonator comes out for my other artifacts again depending on whats most useful...
Against low creature or heavy flying decks High Priest of Penance comes out as he wont usually be able to block and so is kind of a dead card...
Its all about adapting to the opponent... i change whats goes in and out depending on what was damaging my opponent most and least each duel... this deck is fairly versitile so it can adapt fairly easily
July 23, 2013 6:51 p.m.
This is the link to my new orzhov prototype deck Orzhov possibility . It's basically the same but I cut out the creature I thought were weak and put in the cards that were needed. Let me know what you think :)
July 23, 2013 9:50 p.m.
I'm a little confused on the use of Immortal Servitude in this deck, considering your deck generally curves out, and Immortal Servitude only brings back creatures of an exact CMC so even with a full GY you'd be getting a couple bodies at most.

You know what i have never noticed that Itzmogz, i think i may have been misreading it all this time, its still nice to flood the field with 2 mana or 5 mana creatues depeding on whats in the grave... what would you recommend as a replacement then? Perhaps Rise of the Dark Realms ... i would usually cast immortal servitude for 8 so for 9 i get all the creatures... would only really want one copy in my sideboard

i like your Ratchet Bomb implementation. if you haven't considered it already, keep in mind that immediately saccing it with 0 counters burns all tokens. XD. ill probably replace my Killing Wave with those when rotation hits, depending on whats in theros.
