2) Over the Moon - Tovolar, Dire Overlord

Commander / EDH RG (Gruul) Transform Werewolf Wolf

DECK 2

OVER THE MOON: Theme - Werewolf deck making the most use of as many Day/Night transforming human werewolves as possible!

This deck was originally a gift deck from one of my son's friends (which inspired me to return to playing the game after many years in hiatus). I've since made a few alterations, but tried to maintain the $50 budget.

Budget: $50 Casual Play

  • This deck was a gift deck. I've since made a few alterations, but tried to maintain the $50 budget.

  • Budget: $50 Tokens needed: Wolf 2/2 G, Day/Night Card

Notes of interest on play for this deck:

  • I used Dragon Shield perfect fit clear sleeves to double sleeve all my transforming cards for this deck. As I cast my 2-sided cards, I just pulled them out of the outer sleeves while they remained in play. This seemed to work well.

  • Goblin Anarchomancer and Cult of the Waxing Moon the only non-wolf/werewolf creatures in the deck, but these 2 Shaman make nice additions to this Gruul (RG) deck.

  • There are 32 transforming cards. Only 16 are daybound/nightbound (Tovolar, 14 creatures, and 1 Planeswalker). It is good to be aware of this as only these creatures will arrive in their Nightbound (transformed) side at night. This is also of note when you use Into the Night or The Celestus which will only cause the bound creatures to transform.

  • Immerwolf can give a powrful boon (creatues are locked in their non-human state), yet it should be used thoughtfully. While creatures in this deck are pretty much all stronger in their transformed (Nightbound) state, there are quite a few that take great advantage of transforming back and forth: Cult of the Waxing Moon, Ulrich of the Krallenhorde  //Ulrich, Uncontested Alpha  , Howlpack Piper  //Wildsong Howler  , and Afflicted Deserter  //Werewolf Ransacker  .

  • The land is a little shy compared with my other decks, but I've rarely had issues with 4 rocks, 2 sorcery digs, and 4 creatures to help out. The bell curve for this deck swings toward lower casting cost spells as well.

Hope you all have fun or get some good ideas with this deck!
