Not sure what you'd take out but Silver-Inlaid Dagger works really well with Fencing Ace .

It always amazing to finish with a miracled Revenge of the Hunted , Giant Growth and Rancor on double strike creatures by turn 3 or 4. Like you ive had many successful table top and FNM games with them with the difference being my 1st drop is usually a War Falcon . Speaking of which, the Rest in Peace is a great card but is not synergistic with your Rancor and kills it if it ever gets loose from your creature.

@ambeault - Thanks for the Silver-Inlaid Dagger suggestion. I've added it to the maybe-board to consider in light of when I think I should be altering the deck (as I do every time I play, considering what went wrong/what went right/what I felt I needed to change). For now, I don't think I can fit it in, as while it's nice other cards seem to be doing a better job for less mana (and I need to re-equip it if someone burns the creature). However, I am thinking about it now that I've realised there's a potential lack of synergy between some other cards, which leads me on to..

@voojeff - Nuts! you're right. I had this problem with Bonds of Faith which I had to take out because of a similar synergy issue, and also realised that using card:Faith's Shield would make a Rancor drop off. I had to drop Bonds of Faith for that reason, but thought it was still very worth keeping both card:Faith's Shield and Rancor as it simply returned it to my hand to cast again when 1 green mana freed up. I guess for 1 mana giving +2p and trample, it's still a decent value card while I've got Rest in Peace in play. I'll certainly have to keep that game knowledge in mind as it's not actually happened yet, but I'll be expecting it now. Thanks for the heads up and the great input :)

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you're all having a great day.

Oh and if your looking for a mid to late game changer try looking at card:Inquisitor's Flail. With first strike it pretty much nullifies the down side and makes it an awsome buffer. Imagin on your opponents face when you have Loxodon Smiter soulbond to Silverblade Paladin and you pay and equip card:Inquisitor's Flail on the Loxodon.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've added both Wild Beastmaster and card:Inquisitor's Flail to the maybe board for now. My main issue with both of these is that they can be a bit slow. Beastmaster only comes out on turn 3 with no missed land drops, and the flail is also quite slow. There's no mistaking that they're strong cards in late game, but I find this deck is working best when I take advantage of the game early on. I may reconsider these in the future, most likely post-gatecrash which will undoubtedly affect the composition of this deck.

Love the build and would like to know how it does at an event. I would be running something similar if my meta didn't have so many Dreadbore s, Searing Spear s, and Azorius Charm s. Jund and UWR Midrange are really popular at my LGS so my committing to a single threat would be value town for them.

Lifegain doesn't seem important so I would replace Sheltering Word with card:Ranger's Guile. Gives the same hexproof benefit and also gives a pump for your double strikers. Also, to combat your Rest in Peace nonbo with Rancor , I would recommend card:Grafdigger's Cage. It handles all the same problems except that it leaves graveyards around for stuff like card:Runechanter's Pike and Splinterfright to count, but you can still get your Rancor s back. That return clause is what makes Rancor so good in the first place. I have a similar nonbo with Rest in Peace and Rally the Peasants but the impact is much lower so I just live with it.

Thanks Jimhawk. Your advice is fantastic, and completely right - I've added both card:Grafdigger's Cage and card:Ranger's Guile in place of Rest in Peace and Sheltering Word in the sideboard. Great additions to my deck and much appreciated! :)

I'll tag you when I've played this deck at an FNM after Christmas so you can see the results if you're still interested, though I must say everyone's going to be fretting about Gatecrash more than ever leading up to the release. I can barely contain my excitement. I love the daily spoilers and I'm always straight on there to check them out! I'm planning on going for Boros as a competitive deck and check out what they gave us today!!! http://wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Default.aspx (Click the little present in the middle of the page) Firemane Angel!!! 4 mana 3/3 Flyer with a free lifelinking searing spear every time you attack with 2 other creatures. Jeeeebus. Okay, excitement contained.

Firemane Avenger pushed all the right buttons for me. I'm already running Boros with my deck deck:knights-of-the-blood-oath-fnm-stomper so I'm excited to try and fit the new Lightning Helix on a flying body into it. Battalion is definitely my kind of keyword. :D

Wild Defiance ? It's hilarious with Giant Growth and Revenge of the Hunted .

Anyway, +1. This looks amazing and expensive.

Thanks GriffinRider - I originally had Wild Defiance in there, and it certainly is a nice card. The problem was that it's just too slow for the way this deck plays out, and can't quite fit in as 'more important' than anything else. Admittedly if you had some wild defiance's and wanted to make a slightly more budget version of this deck, they will work pretty nicely :) p.s. I don't think your vote registered properly - don't forget to press the +1 Upvote button if you like the deck! :D

Does anyone know the odds of pulling off 26 trample damage on turn three?

Painful just thinking about it.

Going to see if I can gather these cards up and give it a go.

Increasing Savagery is a nice card, but more suited to a Corpsejack Menace counter deck. Its mana cost is quite high, and therefore comes out a bit too slowly for this deck which is all about speed and early aggro. (Granted, casting this will help to close out a game, but the aim is to win before that stage and finish with Sublime Archangel s / card:Faith's Shields if I hit a fatty blocker when I don't finish fast enough.

It's also a sorcery, and one of the main advantages of this deck is that I don't attribute much value to a creature for the opponent to focus down a particular card, but the damage comes in bursts from instant speed cards such as Giant Growth , providing surprise damage. Most of my creatures have only 2-3 base toughness. It'll work if you're playing on a budget, but I've decided against this card for similar reasons to things such as Wild Defiance and Blessings of Nature .

might I suggest some Gather the Townsfolk in case your deck does for whatever reason run into trouble to pump champion of parish later

Im still pretty new to magic ive only been playing for 7 months and it seems you know your stuff, just wondering if you would take a loolk at my deck i built and drop your 2 cents on it. I always welcome veteran feedback.

White Overload is the deck.

@justinisthecrazy - Thanks for the Gather the Townsfolk suggestion. I originally considered this extensively, but it only just didn't make the cut after some serious thinking/play-testing.

The reasoning behind this is that whilst this deck is running Champion of the Parish and a significant amount of humans, it's not quite a white weenie deck spamming humans with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben , Gather the Townsfolk etc. The Champion of the Parish is actually just an annoying.. almost distraction threat, so to speak. As in, it poses a problem for the opponent, but doesn't draw ALL of the focus onto itself. It's not something I want to pump up too hugely and give the opponent an opportunity to focus down with removal. It's also something the opponent can't ignore, or he chips in with his pumped damage.

@00Styles00 Thanks for your very kind comment, though I feel a little undeserving, so I had better admit that I've actually only been playing magic for 1 month after my friend showed me it, and I loved it straight away. I joined a little while after Return to Ravnica came out, and I've simply spent a heck of a lot of time thinking about deck construction, watching the big Grand-Prix Tournaments, reading articles and focusing on how to capitalize on the most brutal card combinations in standard. I guess when I enjoy something so much (particularly things like magic which have so much room to learn and improve with) I really go all-out with doing my best to master it.

I'll have to work harder and earn that veteran status by making more consistently solid decks over the Gatecrash and Dragon's Maze releases, but I'm very pleased and grateful for how my decks have been received, with this deck reaching rank #3 so far, and my other deck reaching rank #1 (The Epic Burn Experiment (For Geniuses)).

I've had a good look at your deck which is a very nice take on midrange white humans and it seems pretty much water-tight other than the one suggestion I think could be integrated which I've left a comment for, so it gets a well deserved +1 from me.

January 3, 2013 2:52 p.m.

I would take a plains out. Aggro decks really only need 22 lands unless the have top end creatures like thundermaw hellkite. You are a hyper-aggressive deck with only 4 spells above 3 mana and 2 of them are made to be played at 1 mana. I would at least put oblivion rings and/or Nevermore in sideboard to stop board wipes and to get rid of planeswalkers like tamiyo who will give you trouble(and don't say your point is to beat them before they even play her because controls whole plan is to force you into a late game). Strangleroot Geist is very good and might be a necessary evil to have some cards on field after a board wipe. Ulvenwald Tracker can be good to take blockers out of your way. I would always use a full playset of rancors.
