I have been trying to build a competitive deck which uses the Painter's Servant / Grindstone combo. I have been looking over decklists on StarCityGames, and there are several successful mono-red decks that utilize this combo.

The problem with these decks is they all require a playset of Imperial Recruiter. I can understand how this card is pivotal in ensuring that you can tutor for Painter's Servant . However with such a high price tag, at over $200 each, I am finding it difficult to make such a large investment.

I am hoping to replace Imperial Recruiter with a less commonly used card, Gamble. The advantage of this approach is that you can tutor for both Painter's Servant and Grindstone . However, it comes with the risk of discarding a potentially pivotal card, due to random discard.

I really want to make this deck work, but I feel I will need to make some changes so that I can pull cards out of my graveyard if necessary.

Any advice with this deck would be highly appreciated.
