no Temple Bell /Mind Over Matter combo?

Also there are some fun anti-creature permanents out there that deter creatures completely Lethal Vapors , Portcullis , Noetic Scales .

Finally for a creature Charmbreaker Devils can be both a game ending beatstick and it can be a good source of recurrence.

I really like all those cards but I'm not sure if there is a place for many of them in the deck. My playgroup has a lot of card draw so having 10+cards in hand is not uncommon, meaning Noetic Scales might not be a good fit.

the Temple Bell combo is good, but if i dont have Mind Over Matter its just another card helping my opponents get card advantage

I feel like Lethal Vapors could backfire on me somehow, like causing more people to attack me for having it out.

I like the recursion of Charmbreaker Devils though. I'm not sure what would be pulled for it though, everything in this deck offers some sort of utility that helps me get my win con out or stall until i tutor for it

Fun deck!! +1. Feel free to check out my decks, I do exclusively edh and limited as well.

Tectonic Edge but no Strip Mine ? With all your Grave Pact effects, card:Volrath's Stronghold would be fantastic :-).

Thanks! Strip Mine is in there though :P

card:Volrath's Stronghold is an exceptional land that i hadn't thought of including, I'll have to playtest it a little bit and see how it works out. Thanks for the suggestion

"D'Oh!" sorry didn't catch that there, so many "su-" lands haha. Also, Wasteland would be a better nonbasic land hate than Tectonic Edge , but there's the whole price thing I understand. Sorry here are the links:

Think Fast! Bombs for Free, and Undead Dragon Hordes: Scion Aggro

Also, Visara the Dreadful seems weaker than your other creatures. I'm not sure what you would replace it with, but maybe another Clone effect?

no worries bud haha it happens. I agree with you on Wasteland though, it would be more suited for that purpose than Tectonic Edge but it does cost more to get :/

Visara the Dreadful is in there for some spot-removal of creatures. You are right though, she is generally pretty weak. We have some aggro players in my group and I've struggled with this deck trying to find answers to them. I've toyed with the idea of another clone effect like Phantasmal Image though cause it would definitely be nice to get copies of some nice fat creatures. The other card im not sure about is Keiga, the Tide Star mostly because it gets stolen a lot haha. What do you think?

Hey thanks for the +1 and suggestions. I gave a response back on my page talking about them.

About Keiga, the Tide Star : you have a bunch of sac outlets, so I would think you would normally be able to sac it at will to mess up their creature and get something from them. But perhaps that doesn't happen as much as I would think.

Sower of Temptation is a pretty solid card, but maybe not what you're looking for in a visara replacement...perhaps Royal Assassin to deter creatures from attacking you. But that's not a very strong card either. Empress Galina , Grave Titan for token-sacking purposes...?

As far as preventing attacks goes, Propaganda , Wurmcoil Engine and Phyrexian Obliterator do a decent job of that. I had a really nasty combo in the original build with card:Hell's Caretaker and Keiga, the Tide Star that warped boards and stole a ton of creatures during my upkeep phases haha. But i never found that combo as something i needed to tutor for, and if either piece was separate they weren't as great. Grave Titan was also in the original build but i pulled it because it really only offered a beatstick that made tokens and got hate haha. I'll definitely be looking into some more cloning effects though because I really like that idea. Maybe a deck:sakashima-the-imposter or something similar.

I see...another option would be to run Stranglehold , which is SO good in edh.card:Volrath's Stronghold could make the caretaker more relevant as well. Thanks for your help on my deck page also!

I actually like royal assassin a lot. And I still think Avatar of Woe is better than visara

Royal Assassin wouldn't be a bad card actually. It could take out Niv or elves when someone is trying to combo off if hes not protected and it has the benefit of being a low-threat card until someone tries to attack. I think I'll swap them for a bit and playtest it around on cockatrice

How's te deck testing?

September 20, 2012 5 p.m.

alexsmith21 says... #13

It playtests very well. I've been using it on Cockatrice and its able to handle 1v1 matches against Zur and Azami decks with ease. Multiplayer, it has enough control to keep the board state where I want it to be while I just draw cards and play defenses. So I'd say its been doing very well :)

Prince of Thralls is a must, it's sooo much fun

Really nice built, but why not Wasteland over Ghost Quarter and maybe Cunning Wish over Diabolic Tutor . I personally prefer Leyline of Anticipation over Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir . He dies way too often and only helps creatures.

alexsmith21 says... #18

Thanks for the input! The only reason why i'm not running a Wasteland over a Ghost Quarter right now is because I don't have one :P But i like the idea of running it since I'll usually be using it to hit non-basics.

I was actually thinking about using Intuition over Diabolic Tutor , but I have to playtest it more to see if its a good fit. Although using Intuition for a Snapcaster Mage , card:Yawgmoth's Will and a combo piece is pretty much game over haha

Well done! This is a great deck, friend. I literally have a Thraximundar card sitting in front of me right now that I had planned to make into an EDH general for almost a year, I just had not gotten around to it. I will definitely look to this deck for some inspiration, though I probably won't go so Planeswalker heavy. ;) +1 from me!

alexsmith21 says... #20

Thanks friend! Much appreciated :D This is by far my favorite deck to play and I've been tweaking it for a long time. If you like being evil at the EDH table, then Thrax is your guy.

March 20, 2013 12:39 a.m.

Er, not for nothing but isn't this deck not legal in EDH? I figured I'd mention it since I saw the Jace, the Mind Sculptor in it...

March 22, 2013 1:48 a.m.

alexsmith21 says... #22

Since the last time I checked, this deck has no banned cards in it. Jace, the Mind Sculptor is legal, and Kokusho, the Evening Star is allowed as a singleton, just not as the general.

March 22, 2013 1:52 a.m.

Never mind, you forgot to add Thraximundar to your card list. It reads this deck as only having 99 cards. Apologies!

No worries bud haha. What do you think of the deck? Any suggestions?

March 22, 2013 2:35 a.m.

Nice deck! I played Grixis in EDH and know how fun it is! I would like to suggest that you add in the following cards: Steel Hellkite, Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni, Black Market, Skullclamp, and Counterflux. Hope this helped!
