I drafted last night at Pandemonium...got stomped on for one round. Then got a bye, then dropped.
The atmosphere at the store was also OPPRESSIVE last night. It was absolute chaos. The smell was awful, it was loud, incredibly crowded.
I was stressed out of my mind from work, hungry, and just could not concentrate on the game.
But of course these are all excuses and this is why I'm here to show my inconsistent lazy picks. I went Dimir mill but got stomped on by a Dimir deck that was creature heavy. I did not have the card draw to make my deck work.
I had only 10 creatures, but I did not have all the components to make a mill deck work. I was tired and lazy so regressed to familiar territory. I blame arena.
Because I P1P1'd Blackland Paragon, I could have gone more heavy into knights. I think I picked up 1 merfolk secretkeeper and I started regressing to familiar territory. Red was open! I could have gone Rakdos knights.
I notice that I favor Black cards heavily, mostly from familiarity.
My challenge to myself in subsequent drafts is to:
1) Take your time, you are rushing.
2) Count which pack you are on.
3) In the packs you are passed, count the colors of each card.
2) and 3) will help you determine which colors are open. Exploiting those signals can be extremely helpful.
