Goblins don't play CoCo or Aether vial. His curve isn't quite as aggressively costed but its close enough. given his curve I could see not wanting to play CoCo, especially with no mana dorks and with only 3 3 drops. I do think there is enough 2 drops to warrant Aether vial though, or at least extensive testing with it.

mahanhen Goblins is not a seriously competitive deck. Although fun. Not in modern atleast

With only 11 green sources, I could see problems reliably casting Mayor of Avabruck  Flip. Have you thought about another Horizon Canopy or some Temple Garden to help? Also, have you tried Boros Elite? Seems meh against removal-heavy decks, but great elsewhere. Also, what has you experience with Mana Tithe been like? Seems meh to me since you don't ever want to be leaving up mana.

I've actually been quite happy with my ability to cast Mayor, I very rarely have problems casting him. Boros Elite is too often a lackluster 1 drop that doesn't activate too often, and when it doesn't activate it is practically dead. Mana Tithe hasn't been too bad honestly. It's a 1 for 1, but I've had decent success with it and can almost always trade with a card througout the game at the very worst. I've looked hard for something I'd replace it with, but I honestly haven't been able to find anything. It fills a few roles in the deck surprisingly well (extra turn 1 play, extra protection, makes my hand harder to read if it was already revealed in the last game or 2). I agree that I rarely want to be leaving up mana, but as with almost any deck, there will likely be room to hold up 1 mana for an instant, and having potentially 3 options instead of 2 has been good.

Ever thought about giving Smuggler's Copter a shot? Gives evasion/flying blocker, helps refuel your hand, and safeguards you against sweepers a bit.

I've looked into it actually. My friend Fooo has a collection breaching 180+ of them, so that got me thinking if they'd actually be good. The conclusion: I doubt it, but maybe it's worth a try. There are several reasons I'm not super keen on Smuggler's Copter, the first being that it isn't human. I really think it is cool that it can be a flying threat that helps filter out topdecked lands, but it not scaling up with the rest of our creatures can become a problem. In addition to this, it doesn't work well with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben or Brave the Elements, or the Stony Silences in the sideboard (noteworthy because the only nonland we end up boarding out against Affinity is Brave the Elements since it is almost entirely dead and for lack of things to bring in, so we wouldn't have anything to bring in if we boarded this out). Also, filtering out land draws when we can use them to gain true card advantage in the long run by cracking clues may not pay off (I may be wrong here, just a hypothesis). That being said, it could potentially shore up a few of the deck's weaknesses. As you said, it mimics the idea of manlands and how they can survive a boardwipe, though with Copter you would need to have follow up creatures. One thing I'm wondering is if this would actually help the Affinity matchup since it is a colorless flyer, being able to block every creature in Affinity, or if it being dead weight with a Stony Silence on the field is too problematic. I may end up trying it, I'll try to remember to let you know how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion!

No problem, hope it works out! On the affinity subject, from what I've heard from Merfolk players who've tried Smuggler's Copter is that it is great in the matchup. Of course, they generally don't have access to Stony Silence, but as they are also a deck full of scaling creatures without any built in colorless or flying creatures, it is something to consider.

Congrats on the 2nd place PPTQ!

A Solemnity may be good in side against Infect. Heroic Intervention another good 1-of for SB against Jund, etc. Some enchantment-hate could be also be good, maybe an Erase. To remove, perhaps go down the Forge-Tenders since you have Auriok Champ already. A single Flagstones of Trokair instead on one Plains main board is another bet-hedger. Gavony Township also nice value.

Thanks for commenting! Unfortunately, Infect is no longer in my meta so I don't think I'll be needing Solemnity, especially since Solemnity tends to hurt me with my Champion of the Parishs and Thalia's Lieutenants with +1/+1 counters. Heroic Intervention is a cool card, but because we only have effectively 7 green sources to cast green off of (for nonhumans), I tend to shy away from those cards (which includes other good cards like Collected Company, and Gavony Township). Burrenton Forge-Tenders put in a lot of work, not only against burn to drag out the match long enough to win, but against decks like Ponza that run Anger of the Gods and other such damage-based removal they can be superb. I do like the idea of having a way to get rid of enchantments/artifacts, but I don't feel I have enough space to dedicate to sideboard slots for them, so in matchups where that is necessary I feel like I just need to rely on dodging the matchup or hope that they don't draw it in time. On Flagstones of Trokair, I had them in the original build but realized that they weren't overly effective, and that they made the deck weaker to Blood Moon. Overall, it is more likely to hinder me against a Blood Moon than it will help me against opposing land destruction. Thanks again for taking a look at the deck!

I really like the deck idea! I was wondering what you thought on Thalia, Heretic Cathar for this deck was? It would definitely slow down your opponent with their land drops and creatures, but I do realize that your theme for the deck would be to play a lot of little stuff to be quicker than them. You would be able to have both Thalia's on the board at the same time since they are named differently.

How much does an inadvertent Mayor of Avabruck  Flip flip hurt you?

While I haven't had the opportunity to play this list in a little while, Mayor of Avabruck  Flip is solid flipped or unflipped. If he remains a human, a 1/1 that buffs 2-5 other humans is obviously great for 2 mana. As a werewolf he does lose the ability to put pressure on the opponent through our other humans, but he is a 3/3 for 2 that effectively puts out another 3/3 at the end of each of our turns. Overall he has been excellent.

Dromoka's Command is a powerful card that you can use in several situations. Hardened Scales is a powerful enabler of this style of deck. You could also take Harmonize if you needed some more card draw.

Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip can quicky cycle though your deck under certain circumstances, and Blossoming Defense can offer some protection. Knight of the White Orchid could help you if you even consistently find yourself stuck on lands.

All interesting suggestions, though I'm unsure if they fit well enough into the deck. The deck only have 7 green sources that could cast these cards, so from a mana standpoint they don't make the grade. Hardened Scales is a good card, but the only cards to benefit from this card would be Champion of the Parish and Thalia's Lieutenant, which I don't feel is enough to warrant its inclusion over more human 1 drops. Harmonize is certainly a good card, but I've found that between the clues, the Mutavaults, the Horizon Canopies, and even the Shefet Dunes I don't typically lack things to do even into turn 5-6, which because of the all-in nature of this list keep me from running dedicated card draw like this. Dromoka's Command is an excellent choice for what it would like to do, even if 3 mana can often be hard to play on curve if Thalia comes out turn 2. However because of the mana issues with green that I mentioned earlier it also fails to make the cut. Thank you for your suggestions though, I appreciate it!

Duskwatch Recruiter is a fair card, and would certainly find hits in the late game. I'm not sure if it warrants inclusion over other cards in the list, but I may try it at some point. Knight of the White Orchid was in the very early iterations of this list actually, and while it was decent at coming back when going 2nd it could be underwhelming, so it was cut to fit Consul's Lieutenant which was later replaced by Precinct Captain for the tempo payoff.

I see you reasoning behind all of it. Would you care to take a look at my G/W Humans deck: Thalia's Horde of Humans and see if you could give me any advice?

Ranger-Captain of Eos would be a great addition to your deck!

July 25, 2019 2:28 p.m.

Have you considered Immortal Servitude since you have a lot of 1 & 2 drop creatures and so could potentially bring back a lot of creatures in one go?

Also, what about Student of Warfare ? Strong human card that fits in with the theme and can drop for a 3/3 First Strike for 2 mana on its own
