I think you could improve the equipment. What about bonesplitter/swords/something good that does damage? Shields aren't very good in a format as fast as Modern.

Why do you run Flagstones?

Hey, Femme_Fatale, this is the original poster of You know those achievements you can unlock on video games?

I just wanted to give you a friendly reminder that I still haven't gotten any achievements from you on my decks The Price Is Right, These Cards Aura Some, Smokin' Mirrors, and A Judge's Nightmare.

@ cyeRunner Those lands are all really bad. A land that enters the battlefield tapped when I only have 18 lands is a REALLY bad idea. It means I lose a turn when I could have played something important. Also, the effects for them are negligible. The scry is pointless with this much draw and I'm not running control. I don't have very much in terms of shuffle mechanics so Mistveil Plains does not do anything. And Forbidding Watchtower isn't a kor creature so it is genuinely weaker than anything I currently have.

@ Tata, please read the description before making your post.

@ MagicalHacker, I became quite ill and went on hiatus for about 3 weeks or so. I'll get to putting the achievements on your profile within a few days.

I read the description. Nowhere does it say why you run Flagstones.

Please don't be dismissive of my simple question. Again: why run equipment that only boosts toughness? I understand you want cheap casting and equipment costs, but wouldn't the deck be more versatile with a few swords/batterskull?

I updated the description for the use of Flagstones of Trokair , Tata.

The deck relies on being synergistic with equipments, not winning with equipments. The swords and other stuff are too slow for this deck to function properly. While yes, they are powerful, they do not apply themselves very well to the method of which this deck plays. Puresteel Paladin 's metalcraft ability relies on having 3 equipments out at once, so a single sword could screw me over in that department as I wouldn't be able to use the ability on turn 2 or sooner. I also need to shuffle my equipments around a lot, before, during, and after combat step, so having Puresteel Paladin 's metalcraft activated as soon as possible is really important.

The draw effect on Puresteel Paladin means I can keep drawing and playing 0 cmc equipments, and letting me leave my land untouched for creatures and sorceries. Such a synergy means I can draw, play and equip my creatures every turn.

Finally, you have to consider the aggro side of this deck. I can attack with a 3/1 Double strike Kor Duelist or a 4/2 flying Kitesail Apprentice on turn 2 thanks to the cheap equipments. Heavy cmc equipments like the swords means my deck would run a lot slower.

+1! Awesome deck, Femme_Fatale! Funny coming across this list, as I just brewed up a budget version the other day, Modern Combat (Budget Challenge). It's really neat to look at the 2 lists and see how the creature core is identical (except for #s) and the equipments are also very similar. Take a look if you have any time, I'd really appreciate any feedback you might have since you know the theme very well!

Cheers!

Thanks for the +1 alulien~

And yeah, numbers are very important when making your deck. That and making sure everything synergizes with your deck to the best of it's capabilities. If a card has anti-synergy in any way, it shouldn't be used.

YES, IT DOES MATTER: Kill an opponent by dealing exact damage to kill them with a creature equipped with Bone Saw .

Hey Femme, first off wanna say that I love this deck you constructed SO much I had to create if for myself It is just that good! Now on to my personal opinion: I added 3x Kor Skyfisher by taking out 3x Kitesail Apprentice .My reasoning behind this is late game: you don't want to equip Kitesail with anything since giving most/all equipment on Armament Master grants your tokens immense power. Although Kor Skyfisher costs an extra colorless, not only is it a Kor creature and has flying, it energizes super well with Puresteel Paladin ! Example: Kor Skyfisher comes out, put artifact back to your hand. Cast it for 0, get some more card draw! What do you think?

I love this deck! This is going in my list of favourite combo-cantrip decks, and I think now I can finally put together a good aggro deck (just need to get some pieces) +1

So awesome,im definitely going to try it.

Surestrike Trident would make nice combo with Puresteel Paladin to make everything unblockable. However it would propably a little overkill and just slow the deck down. Just an idea. :D

Kor Skyfisher is a pretty good idea Berwald, however I don't like the 2 cmc cost. That spot is already taken up with Puresteel Paladin , Lightning Greaves , Armament Master , Auriok Steelshaper and Leonin Shikari . That is currently 5 other 2 cmc cards that I would rather play than the fisher. Thusly, Kor Skyfisher would just end up a dead card in my hand.

Thanks for the +1 thuzra and tom1407~

However tom1407, I don't like Surestrike Trident , it seems like a win more card to me, and I don't want anymore 2 cmc cards, just like what I stated above. Also, since it is an equipment, I want to be playing as many equipments as possible, as fast as possible.

Excuse me, I know Dispatch is in the "not going to use" list, but may I ask why? Just curious, as you hit metalcraft fast, it would be a nice removal.

Femme_Fatale says... #17

Same reason Path to Exile is in that list lil_cheez. The power of my creatures in this deck means that I'm doing creature control via forcing them to block. I also rarely see indestructible creatures or deathtouch creatures in modern, and if anything I can use Brave the Elements in my sideboard to deal with most creature related problems. I used to use PtE, it just slowed this deck down.

CapnEuthanize says... #18

I'm interested in hearing your reasoning behind your choices:

Path to Exile in my experience in modern most all decks run some sort of disruption (even 'Affinity') because of combo decks like splinter twin which can reliably combo on turn 4, if you don't have any responses to kill exarch or pestermite as they are combo-ing you loose.

why don't you run swords? They give a fairly large bonus of +2/+2 and give protection at a reasonable cost. in addition to that they have (the good ones at least) an amazing effect when they hit a player which isn't hard given the protection aspect.

I'm unsure why you aren't running Golem-Skin Gauntlets or Cranial Plating as it has been proven in modern that top-heavy creatures are more useful than bottom-heavy creatures via cards like Snapcaster Mage , Young Pyromancer , Delver of Secrets  Flip , Vendilion Clique , ect.

Why are you using Conqueror's Pledge when its mana cost (even with the ramp synergy) is a bit too high for modern. I'd recommend Spectral Procession as it is much faster and will still give you a good amount of creatures with the added benefit of flying. if you were to add in Godless Shrine and Isolated Chapel you could get away with Lingering Souls which is incredibly strong. With a fast aggro deck like this one you won't need to worry about life loss to shocks; however if you do you could use Basilisk Collar .

Femme_Fatale says... #19

All those equipment cards are too slow CapnEuthanize. Did you even read the deck description or playtest it? The point of this deck is to NOT have powerful equipments. But rather to have equipments that give me the FASTEST speed. I care not about what abilities most of my 0 mana cost artifacts have, just that they are 0 mana cost. They combo with Puresteel Paladin for draw and allow me to quickly find Auriok Steelshaper s and Armament Master s to equip them and buff everything 5/5+

As for targeting, you can't target something with Lightning Greaves , and Leonin Shikari grants everything shroud when I have a Lightning Greaves . If they tried to do damage directly to me, just side in Leyline of Sanctity .

Conqueror's Pledge is never a dead card. When I need to play it I can. You are also forgetting that they become buffed with Auriok Steelshaper and Armament Master . If I have multiple Conqueror's Pledge s in my hand and the mana combo, I can play them all, generally kicked, even on turn 3-5. Another thing to note is that this card is very important against control decks. It is what constantly supplies me the fuel to keep up the barrage against my opponent, and is probably the only card that can keep me in recovery after the many wraths they chuck at me.

Most modern games I play DON'T actually end on turn 4, that's just goldfishing. They generally end from anywhere turns 6-12, and can go to 11-20 with/against more control type decks. This applies to all of my modern games with all of my decks, doesn't matter who I play against.

One of the more frequent occurrings with this deck is that the opponent is forced to block with their more important creatures. This simple thing alone has brought me to the decision of not including any removal, and if you look at my updates you'll see that decision. And Hey! If you are having problems dealing with creatures/permanents with this deck, go ahead and change the sideboard! It is entirely meta specific after all.

The biggest threat this deck faces? Discard. (And maybe destroy all artifacts, but I rarely see those) That is why I have Leyline of Sanctity in my side.

Budget for average price 240$? rolf. Deck itself is nice but could be better. I'd put Cranial Plating , Chariot of Victory and Basilisk Collar here.

Please read the actual deck description before making suggestions Maryusheck. And this isn't a budget build of anything. It just has a cheap price for modern.
