I'm surprised you didn't include any Blighted Fen to your land. Seems like a good way to clear the way of any indestructable creatures your opponent may have
November 26, 2015 11:08 a.m.
Great deck. Completely agree with @AgentGreen about the Blighted Fen. You would probably want 2.
For suggestions, Ukud Cobra Was insane in draft, so maybe cut a Typhoid Rats or two for more of those?
Lastly, the land count is kinda low. Might be fine, but adding 1-2 wouldn't hurt
November 26, 2015 11:20 a.m.
In my comment above I meant moving the last two Ukud Cobra's to main
November 26, 2015 11:21 a.m.
Another suggestion: 2 Infinite Obliteration In board because Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger kinda wrecks the decks gameplan
November 26, 2015 11:22 a.m.
lursthegreat: Thanks, I've already had some opponents go salty.
AgentGreen: You are 100% right, total overlook on my part, great card for this deck. Thanks.
Ashockfan: Ukud Cobra has been doing really well in this deck due to its staying power. I'm going to work on getting more in. My early concern was with the higher CMC, but as I'm going to add at least 1 more land, that might not be a worry. Also, in a different version of the deck, I do use Infinite Obliteration and it's worked really well. I've de-Siege Rhino'ed and de-Dragonmaster Outcast'ed a few decks. Opponents weren't expecting that card. They weren't thrilled. It is going in this sideboard, too.
Quarrius Could you explain Heart-Piercer Bow? I think the problem with it is it's the artifact that does the damage, not the creature.
November 26, 2015 12:08 p.m.
@kedrar_pa Yea, cobras great. Infinite obliteration is a great one too.
And just realized that you're right about Heart-Piercer Bow. Deathtouch doesnt actually work with it. that sucks.
November 26, 2015 1:01 p.m.
@kedrar_pa Hey, I have some more suggestions:Malakir Familiar if only for the body and the flier. Might need him to stop dragons from flying over your defense.
Orbs of Warding and Self-Inflicted Wound For sideboard hate.
There's a resource you aren't fully using that every viable deck should: Delve. I would recommend 2 Gurmag Anglers or Tasigur, the Golden Fang, but I think Soulflayer has the best fit. cheap 4/4 deathtouch, and if the count of Malakir Familiars goes up, maybe he could be another consistent finisher. Or maybe just some Shambling Attendants?
Id go with 2-3 Soulflayers, but it's up to you
Maybe a Grim Haruspex or two in main or board to get added value when you're forced to block?
Also, after adding another Ukud Cobra to main, you need to drop 1 from board cuz theres 5 total now.

for what to cut, Prism Ring type effects don't really work... so cut those. a single Dutiful Return can go, and maybe more, but I get why they're there
November 26, 2015 1:22 p.m.
I might trade the 2xPrism Ring for 2xGrim Haruspex. I like Prism Ring in my opening hand as it gives me something to do on turn 1. It usually gets me at least 5 life over the course of the game when it comes out early enough, which isn't too bad of an investment for 1 mana, especially in a mono-colored deck. But Grim will help with card advantage, which could have a bigger impact overall.
Maybe I'll trade Dutiful Return(s) for Soulflayer(s) if and when Malakir Familiar gets into the deck. These changes will give me a lot more options and flexibility.
What started off as just a goofy deck to fool around with, is actually becoming playable. I've been playing on another site, and it actually does OK. Your suggestions have gone a long way towards that. Thanks! At the least, it takes so long to play against this deck, I'll draw any paper matches. =)

Also, Nantuko Husk could help me get what I WANT into graveyard for Soulflayer.

I ginned up a deck for the pathway/deathtouch combo last night, but I splashed green for more deathtouch creatures, as well as the fight cards that allow you to utilize deathtouch even if pathway arrows hasn't been drawn.
My deck is here : http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/reach-out-and-deathtouch-somebody-1/
I have definitely found it tough for opponents to deal with.
I'm considering taking my green splash and finding something to give a +X/+X bonus and trample, because that really synergizes well with deathtouch.
Note that there is 0 benefit to having a typhoid rats over another copy of ruthless ripper, as ripper can always be played as a rats, with upside if it's not turn 1 or 2
November 26, 2015 2:57 p.m.
@kedrar_pa you're welcome for the help, I hope the deck becomes something good! if they ever print more usable deathtouch creatures I think this combo could become real, even competitive.
also, as was mentioned above, Ruthless Ripper is a strictly better Typhoid Rats so you should drop a rats for the 4th ripper
November 26, 2015 3:31 p.m.
been thinking about it more, and I think that if they printed a better 2 drop deathtouch creature, maybe a 1/4, and then something the deck could use as a finisher, or even another artifact like Pathway Arrows a deck like this would be viable.
Update: @kedrar_pa I think most of the tools are there for a non budget version in Sultai colors, ill make it on my page and link yours + give you full credit
November 26, 2015 3:41 p.m.
Finished. Gave you full credit for making this draft combo an actual thing!

Thanks for the credit, that deck looks scary. Making it Sultai really opens it. I think the win- cons will be more numerous and Less fragile. I want to sideboard Crux of Fate, but I really want to keep it under $30. I'm going to give your deck a try in the virtual world.
November 26, 2015 7:10 p.m.
@kedrar_pa thanks! yea it looks great, i really hope it can work! If you play it at FNM, tell me how it does... I might build it too and test online
November 26, 2015 9:44 p.m.
It's so awesome to see that other people are catching on to a pure deathtouch deck! I've been building my own variant which tries to take advantage of my opponent losing lots of creatures.
Have you considered adding in Malakir Cullblade or Erebos's Titan? Cullblade can bulk up from all of the creatures you're mowing down and the Titan can come in to swing as a big indestructible beast.
+1 from me though! Would love to see how your version continues to evolve.

Ruinous Path should be a 2 of in place Prism Ring you really need a way to deal with planeswalkers espically those that can become an indestructible body. along with the awaken ability to give you another body.
Consider running the sb as a silver bullet setup as you have 3 tutors in your deck. mainly having 3 copies of Virulent Plague seems overkill as you'll draw into it way to much.
It may be worth considering a copy or 2 of Archfiend of Depravity as it will keep decks from trying to overwhelm you with pure numbers and is a sizable flying body to boot.

In my opinion you could splash green to use Roar of Challenge. A boardwipe is cool.

Instead of graveblade marauder i would run Gurmag Swiftwing. It really makes your soul flayer wicked. You could also run bell toll dragon for its morph cost and sac it to nantuko husk. Delve the dragon, the swiftwing, and a rat for a 4/4 flying, first strike, haste, hexproof, and death touch soul flayer.

@JerryLeeGibbs@Kedrar_pa
I love soulflayer effects, and I have a WUBR soulflayer deck on my profile, but I'm not sure this is the deck for that synergy.

Love it. I can already imagine the rage that this deck induces.
