I have a feeling he will be running Legion's Initiative when Dragon's Maze comes out, that sort of takes care of the need for Restoration Angel s It seems like a strong deck to me, I'd love to play against it if I ever get into modern.

I'm still looking for good sideboard cards, and Gitaxian Probe is more than worth the slot. Yes, when Legion's Initiative comes out, I will definitely want to run that. I was also thinking about Blind Obedience since I was having a couple problems with Vengevine outright stomping on my face. It would also take care of some of the RDW's out there. Legion's Initiative will be exceptionally useful against removal, since all I need to do is save two mana til their turn to flicker everything they target. I'm iffy about Dismember , although I'm aware that I would probably have the lifegain to run it. I don't own the fetches, but it will be quite some time before I'm willing to dismantle Patriot Flash n' Smash for this, since it's doing pretty well in Standard atm, so I have time to get them between IRL construction of this and now. If for some reason it no longer becomes competitive, then I'll dismantle it for this.
I am giving Restoration Angel plenty of thought, though.
I'm also hoping Theros brings us a few modern-worthy cards. I'm kind of hoping for enemy colored manlands, but that's a definite pipe-dream.

The Ravnica bounce lands could prove useful here especially since your running the Shadow sift lands: Izzet Boilerworks Azorius Chancery Boros Garrison

I have two of those (four of Izzet and four of Boros) but I'd rather not have the deck lose speed over it. I'm usually waiting to do things on their turn, barring creatures or artifacts, and the bouncelands are best when you have tapped mana that wouldn't take away from having something ETB tapped to replace it. Also, the sifters are only there tip I get some fetches. captinfluffy convinced me of that when we were playtesting this.

Your land base seems excessive and you need to grab some fetch lands.
April 22, 2013 12:07 a.m.
Please read before you comment. I'm getting the fetches before I put the deck together. Also: please be clear. "Excessive" doesn't tell me anything. Do I have too many lands? Too many different lands? Are the lands themselves weird? If you don't have real advice, or are unwilling to spend the extra minute to clarify statements, I'd rather quality comments rather than a multitude of them.
April 22, 2013 12:24 a.m.
Not sensitive, just saying that I don't need people to be lazy when I'm trying to build this to get into the competitive level. If you're going to comment, give me something I can use. I wasn't trying to make it an attack, I'm just tired of getting comments that don't give me anything. I understand I need fetches. How many do you think would be viable in this archetype? The sifts are out asap, but I don't know the reasonable amount. Also, all you had to do was post tl;dr... Even that would've been an explanation. If you don't mind, I am reviewing my manabase, so it would be helpful if you clarified what you started, Mr. Troll. lol

I think a great sideboard to add is Cyclonic Rift
You can exile it with Isochron Scepter early game to bounce a non land permanent back every turn, or if you draw it late game you an overload it to wipe out your opponents' boards. I freakin love this card because when casting overload it doesn't target anything and sneaks past all shroud and hexproof crap :D

Hey bud, I'm just getting in to modern as well with I Caught the Modern BUG and hopefully I could offer some suggestions.
Might be able to replace Azorius Charm . It doesn't give lifelink, but for 1 less mana you can "do" 1 damage to your opponent and put a creature back in the hand. Or you can put a Snapcaster Mage back into your hand and recast him giving something in your GY flashback again, which is kinda like "drawing" a card. That 1 mana may make the difference one day!
2 cmc spells are a big deal in modern. For instance, just in my deck I will be running 19, though 3 can't be countered :), 2 cmc spells, ranging from removal, to counters, to creatures. countering a Snapcaster Mage is almost a 2 for 1 since they probably knew what they wanted to target and were waiting to try and get you.
And last, your mana curve is so low, you might be able to get away with 22 lands making room for 1 more of your favorite spell. cough Snapcaster Mage cough lol
I hope this helps or at least gets your brain juice going!

Oooh Oooh, I forgot about maybe Steppe Lynx as another creature/1 drop

you should play this against my Obamanation deck :D
that would be an interesting match up.. haha

So I put together an imperfect iteration of this. Basically, I finally broke down and threw most of it together, sans about half the sideboard, and the Mana Leak s, and played against a friend. I played with a full playset of Path to Exile and Spell Snare , which weren't beneficial against a deck with only a few two drops. I also played short a land, which hurt, but didn't stop me from winning all but two games. Played with no basics, which didn't matter too much since it was a mono-black deck that can't run paths. Either way, I should have it completely set up within about ten minutes of working on it again.

Zendikar Fetch lands if you own them, otherwise looks like quite a good deck. Make sure you are countering the right cards. Mana ramp in decks playing mana ramp is often a good one to leak etc. Especially with the speed of this deck. Maybe more creatures in the sideboard against decks that remove your creatures alot, maybe just 1 of each, but possibly resotration angels? Oh and Gitaxian Probe for a free spell along with Dismember .
